The film 'Kshitij' is yet to be released but the acting bug had bitten Neha and she shifted bag and baggage to Mumbai. She says, "I got friendly with Aniket, the cameraman of the film and he would guide me on the auditions that were taking place. I started with ad films and went on to do 45 ad films and a Telugu film, too. There were more offers from the South but I refused them simply because I didn't understand the language at all."
And, then she bagged a dream role in Ramgopal Varma's film "It didn't begin shooting for a long time... Two other films I had signed earlier were also similarly delayed. I was running out of patience and also had to run my kitchen. So, I took to television which gives good money."
She debuted with 'Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand'( Star Plus) where she played Sangeeta Ghosh's daughter and went on to do a glam role in 'Ayushman'. She almost didn't do 'Mamta' because "I didn't want to play a mother. But when the channel insisted that I come and listen to the narration, I went ahead and fell in love with the script of a 17-year- old who becomes a surrogate mother for the sake of her ailing father. There was simply no reason to say a no," she recounts with a smile.
In the plethora of social dramas, Neha insists that 'Mamta' is different. "It's not the usual saas-bahu fare. Also, I am leaving no stone unturned to make my part look convincing-like I have gained weight to look mature. If the script demands that I look hot, I will go for the kill and likewise will spare no efforts to look the part of a behenji if need be."
Now, it's only 'Mamta' that is keeping Neha busy. "I am working 30 days a month on this show which leaves me little time for anything else. I would be lying if I say that I am not pursuing films but it has taken a backseat for a while," she says.
