Guys, even before the dal is cooked, he had added all the ingredients to it. The first advise I got from my mother was to not to mix spice and salt to any dish made by using Dal (any dal like thovar dal, Channa dal or moong dal) before the dall is cooked (be it Dal fry or sambar or curry). If the time was the constaraint, he could have added 2 teaspoons of Oil & a pinch of turmeric to the dal which will help to cook dal fast. Since he wanted to add Chicken to the dal, he could have as well used Moong dal which blends well with other ingredients and also can be cooked fast.

You don't have to put salt before cooking in pressure cooker.

this rule is for dals only or should apply to vegetable also.
