Gangster movies are a known territory in Bollywood. Infact some of the most critically and commercially acclaimed movies of the recent past have belonged to this genre(Vastav,Company,Ouatim,Satya to name a few).Shootout at Wadala is the sequel to the 2007 film Shootout at Lokhandwala. Will this movie add another feather in the cap of this genre?
The film will dramatize the first-ever registered encounter by Mumbai police, where gangster Manya Surve was shot dead, which took place at the junction next to Dr. Ambedkar college, Wadala, Mumbai on 1 November 1982.
FAVOURABLE FACTORS:
1.SAW is based on an acclaimed and successful book "Dongri to Dubai" by Hussain Zaidi. So the makers already have an interesting plot at hand.If they execute the plot well,SAW can do wonders for them.
2.Ensemble starcast include the likes of Anil Kapoor,Sonu Sood,John Abraham,Manoj Bajpayee,Tushar Kapoor and with such a starcast in hand it is bound to grab maximum attention in addition to providing it the right commericial and critical balance.
3.Promotion has become quite significant now a days especially if the film is anticipated and and the trailer too having been evoked a positive respone .The film is being promoted aggressively by BALAJI productions who are known for their skillful and clutter breaking marketing strategies all across the country.
4.Another factor that is favourable for the film is that it is a sequel to a well known film which will help the film take a good opening.
DISADVANTAGES:
1.Music plays a huge role in opening of the film in today's time. The music of the film has been a letdown. No song has been able to rock the charts so far except for Laila which has been lapped mainly by the masses only
2.Release date of the film is not ideal.SAW is releasing in the mid of IPL and evening shows are bound to suffer to some extent due to this factor. Moreover, the film will be facing oppostion in certain multiplexes with the release of Bombay Talkies on the same day and from the anticipated releases Go Goa Gone, Zanzeer and Aurangzeb in the following weeks.
3.Family audience usually stay away from underworld films. As we know even Once upon a time in Mumbai faced the same problem in collections despite of its good content.
The above factors make it very clear that SAW will have to boast of a very good content to stand a chance of crossing 100cr at boxoffice.2013 is proving a very tough year for big budget films.WOM is the only thing that matters for films like SAW.We hope the makers have taken care of all these aspects and we have our 1st 100cr grosser of the year.
