With the IPL heating up to its peak, and the holidays setting it at its own speed, the buzz in Kollywood had just gone down a bit for a while. Come Udhayam NH4, and here we have a whiff of air amidst the drought that movie lovers are currently going through.
Produced by Dhayanidhi Azhagiri's Meeka Entertainment with Siddharth, Ashrita Shetty and Kay Kay Menon in the leads, Udhayam NH4 has its paperwork done by the highly talented Vetrimaaran, and music by GV.Prakash. Actor Dhanush stated that the script of Udhayam NH4 had been roaming around with them for 5 years. It has finally taken the centre stage. Well, how is the final output?
Udhayam NH4 is basically a short and sweet love story stitched to an interesting road thriller.
The movie kicks off in Bangalore, with Kay Kay Menon kicking off an enquiry about Siddharth and his mysterious acts. It then moves to a series of events, coupled with good narration, as the movie goes on. At the interval bang, we feel we're set for a superb second half.
Into the second half, and the movie dips down a bit. The love track between Siddharth and Ashrita isn't captivating, their chemistry doesn't work out. However, the movie brings itself back on track, therefore coming to a convincing climax.
One of the biggest positives for Udhayam NH4 is the hero, Siddharth. Doing an action thriller isn't his cup of tea as we all know, but he does it to pinpoint perfection. He is at his best while delivering dialogues, and at utmost ease in the stunt sequences. Something out of the box from the chocolate boy. The heroine Ashrita Shetty isn't impressive, as her dubbing too seems out of place. Kay Kay Menon looks handsome, and does pretty well too. The rest of the cast, including Siddharth's friends just fit the bill.
If there is something that keeps Udhayam NH4 going, it is Vetrimaaran's writing. With some good brain coupled with nice-to-watch brawn, the pace at which the movie traverses won't leave you bored.
Technically too, Udhayam has some stock. Velraj's camera is superb, especially the slow mo shots in the fight scenes. Kishore TE's editing is crisp, finishing off the film in a little over two hours.
GV.Prakash's music is wondrous, Udhayam NH4 might just be one of his best albums in recent times. However, it is a pity that the heavenly Maalai Pon Maalai does not find a place onscreen. The BGM could have been better though, it feels cut at places.
Except for a slight alien feel that prevails throughout the movie, and the half as classy female lead, Udhayam NH4 is a good popcorn thriller for the weekend. I suggest you go for it, if you need a break from the IPL.
Verdict : Nice lil road movie which will keep you entertained.
