I don't know. Asad and Dilshaad were very affected by the slap but what really got him was the dayan comment etc for Dilshaad that happened right after the slap.

Sangeeta, while I agree with most of your post(s), I feel differently about him wanting to protect her from the law. I think Asad's anger is an issue. He needs lessons in anger management. He does love Zoya but is still in denial. His preconceived notions about a perfect woman is the biggest hurdle in their love story. I think he retaliated in anger. He was also very hurt by her actions. He leaps before he thinks!
I think one has to think from the character's POV and not our POV. I have even defended Zoya when others ridiculed her...it all depends on the situation. That's what we did in DMG too😊
Thanks webuser. Asad is a very complex or rather complicated character. Because he doesn't express himself well, it's always a matter of interpretation.I have begun to think that all his actions fall under the large umbrella of 'protector'Therefore, not only does he protect his loved ones from danger, he also protects them from himself- in this case, Zoya. He has this weird notion that one day he could hurt the person he loves and that's why he feels by pushing Zoya away from him, he is actually protecting her.

True, he is protecting her from himself: his anger and the notion he has that he will hurt her or can't keep her happy. That's thanks to Daddy dearest. But, he also believes or rather wants to believe that she is not right for him. His character took a step back for me, when he accused Zoya for being responsible for Humeira's state and that she didn't care for relations so didn't deserve any (or words to that effect). I don't think he said it in spite or to hurt her on purpose. He reacts first and then repents. He directly or indirectly hurts her and then his love for her makes him rush to her aid.ex.1. Train station incident: he kinda kicked her out and then saved from goons. This was the start.2. Akram "qubool nahi hai" fiasco3. Mangalpur: burial and the mad dash. Although I don't think he was responsible for her state. He just didn't listen to her.4. Bus accident and the mad dash again.5. Humeira "poisoning" (still not sure that's what happened) fiasco, deportation and the mad dash yet again! 😆When Zoya is in danger or going away from him, his fear, anxiety and love come out. I feel sorry for the bloke. He truly is an intense and passionate man but has to overcome his emotional baggage and preconceived notions. Well, Zoya will pull him through! There will be light at the end of the tunnel and it hopefully won't be the train coming! 😉 I sincerely believe their love story will reach pinnacles as never seen before on Indian telly. Thanks for the chance to share our views. I do enjoy reading your posts. Was pretty much a silent reader. This serial and AsYa have changed that!

I do agree about that. I felt that too, he knows that Zoya's mistake could cost her a lot, and this is not only his anger which made him do what he did, but also because he was worried for Zoya :) He has always been the one to protect.
