This is not a learning show...yes people learn during such shows but some basic knowledge is required...I doubt if khoku or yasmeen have basic knowledge about baking as well...it's easy to make something if the recipe is in front of u...but there are things which come only with experience...like in baking...how much the batter should be mixed, what should be it's consistency etc etc is different for say cakes and muffins...this will only come with experience...just like Indian cooking...

the winner should imo know at least the basics of other cuisines/baking as well and not only Indian cooking!

I can't say if they all are very talented and that's the reason they are there- but yes they have their plus and minus points. I am sure the producers won't be able to get 12 (?) contestants good in all aspects of world cuisine or even indian cuisine as even indian cooking varies from one state to another.

I did not say it's a learning show. It is a competition and Khoku has proved time and again (pizaa, strudel) that she doesn't need to know it beforehand but she would still cook something as good as or even better than the others do. According to me cooking is an art and you are either good at it or not and she is a born cook. That doesn't mean I think she's going win as the odds are stacked against her.

I didn't see either Khoku or Yasmin struggling with the baking. Even in the pizza task, Khoku made a decent pizza considering the fact that she had never tasted one in her life. Making the pizza base is not an easy job even for those who are used to international cuisine.
On the contrary, I find both of them to be quick learners and very resilient. Unlike some who melt into self-pity (Navneet) or let their confidence shatter to pieces (Jehan), they put their best into every challenge.

Both are doing good in tasks so far.
In baking task, they were shown less becoz they were not captions of their team. That's what I think.

Atleast that's how its being projected. if you have mentor's support, you gain confidence but if you get cutting remarks always, your confidence is shattered. Jehan and Navneet have much more exposure and have put in their best efforttoo. But Jehan had nothing to giveto the channel to raise the trps. Totally my opinion-

I know of one person through facebook postings of my friends and out of curiosity I went to his facebook. This guy has not been to a culinary school but if you would see the recipes and the presentation of his dishes, you would be amazed. He was not selected and was out in the first round with a few remarks that he used too many ingredients. However, many others short listed had no creativity in their original dish. So they could have selected some better contestants in the top twelve but then they wanted to go KBC way and get the trps raised.

The competition has to be fair with no bias and then only it becomes a good reality show. They can not lower the bar for some and raise the same for others. If there are criteria set for selection/elimination, these should be followed. The losing teams should be fairly judged on team effort, presentation and taste. The final losing team should be then judged fairly on how closely the recipe has been followed. No bias of sob stories should play any role. I was not much of Shipra's fan last year, but still she had what needed to be at the top despite of her economical background or sob stories. And I think she did a good job in Sunday's episode.

But how can one judge a dish by looking at its pictures on facebook? After all, the final test is always the taste! And only the judges are able to taste the dishes. The person you mentioned may have made the most innovative and most-appealing looking dishes, but if they did not taste good, it would have been no use. Even in the Australian version when the judges are in a dilemma, they always go by the "taste is king" dictum.

In that defence then, taste only also can not be the criteria. I have not been a fan of Ripu either as I felt he was a safe player, but look at the previous two tasks, he took risks with the pizza ( no idea how the actual taste was and also taste varies form a person to person). The choice of ingredients, knowing what would gel well with what. Look at Nisha, she used moong daal with alu methi. The choice of ingredients tells you that it was a smart move, making it more healthy and also givinga risk based twist, don't know if I would like the taste but if she is selling this dish I would go buy it. Knowing about the smoking, I have no idea how the lassi would taste with smoking flavors but liked the knowledge based twist by Ripu. That is the only point I am trying to make. I am not saying that Khoku's dishes are not tasty or presentable but what I am saying is that they have not shown her using her raw ingredient knowledge to make a risk based recipe in the challenge. That is my only point. One should not win just because they are cool, dress up nicely, are dramatic or have other than cooking skills to entice the audience. This applies to all the contestants including Yasmeen and Khoku.
