To many shows on females and that too with warped representation of their psyche. But Saraswatichandra proved to be different as it focused on males too and in a very realistic manner - exploring the emotional and vulnerable side of the male psyche.

VC getting hurt and angry is handled so brilliantly! He's not shown as a shouting egotistic partriarch. But rather a man who feels a lot for his family and someone who felt hurt that his family did not trust him enough to tell him to the truth and felt perhaps he was too weak or not in a state to handle the truth.

His ego is hurt as a man but more serious is his pain and a certain sense of failure he felt as a man for his family not considering him a pillar of strength and trying to shelter him from truth lest it hurts him.

A man is conditioned to be strong and literally the karta dharta and solid rock of the family. He cannot tolerate being perceived as weak. (I remember once I tried to hold my grandfather's hand while he was descending down the stairs and he instantly told me he did not need it though he has great difficulty in walking and taking each step.)

VC's portrayal with slight tears in his eyes is a brilliant insight into a man and a householder's mind. He is angry both at his wife and daughter but also at himself for being unable to provide feeling of a rock solid support and for coming across as vulnerable to his own wife and kids.

SC team of writers and actors and wonderfully shown VC's bruised self respect as a father whose daughter's rishta has been broken, his burden for not being able to do something quickly for Yash and bearing taunts of his bhabhi, his hurt ego as a husband whose wife did not trust him enough to confide such a big truth to him about their own child and his sense of heightened guilt and failure as a father whose kids have probably grown more and feel the need to take care of him rather than him taking care of them (emotionally). Worse for him are taunts of Guman, silence of Saras in hiding the truth and his inability to react angrily to both of them due to friendship with LN and consideration of ghar ki izzat.

The various burdens of society, family and self that a man carries and tries to carry perfectly (due to expectations from him in a partriarchal culture) are shown so finely in SC via VC's troubles, held back tears and angry yet choking voice when he speaks and that piercing silence which is silence to others but indicates a volcano of emotions raging inside him.

It is also utter finesse that Guniyal does not go hysterical at this. Rather she advises her own daughter to observe what she is going through and learn from her mistake of hiding the truth from someone you love.

It is totally touching to see how the daughters try their best to cheer up their mother, manao their father and normalise relations between them even as Kumud has her own pain to grapple with (that of her rishta going off).

Equally happy to see Dugba trying her best to calm the situation, infuse positivity for all including Saras. And she stands like a shield against Guman, keeping a hawk's eye on every slimy move the vamp tries to make to hurt her family.

SARAS!!!! Is he a darling or what?! Which man does so much for a girl's family even when she is not engaged to him or has confessed love for him?

I LOVE his qualities!

He is himself planning with Kumari to help correct the situation. Most including Kumud, Guniyal et al are giving him a cold shoulder yet he soldiers on! All for the sake of making up for his mistake and making the family happy.

Whereas in other serials men even get away with adultery and rape yet never realise their follies let alone go out of their way to make others happy.

I loved Gautam's expressions when he put the chair out for Kumud to stand but turned his back, kept standing there so that she could take his support to climb up the stool. So sweet! I love such gestures in which nothing is said or asked for or expected but a person shows his concern and care for the other!

😳

Gautam's expressions were so cute and innocent! Hai Allah! He just stood there, time to time gazing at the door to see if Kumud had managed to put up that decoration piece; offering support silently till her work was done. That MOMENT and way of conveying a feeling of "I am there for you" was so touching! Visual and emotional DELIGHT! 👏

Kumud's reluctance yet finally taking his support was an indication of an invisible yet undeniable bond between the two! So romantic!

I love how Saras reads everyone's minds and talks to himself analysing each situation and deciding his future course of action! Where in the WORLD are SUCH perceptive MEN???!!!!! He is way above IDEAL!

I loved how he brought the sari for Guniyal and gave it to VC and wished him Happy Wedding Anniversary with a smile. Gautam looked like a kid! Aww!! He lends such PURITY to Saraswatichandra! Kudos to him and the team!

I was so delighted and touched to see him stop Kumari and giving her a reassuring look when she was about to say that their plan flopped! Sadke jauon aise Jijaji par!

This level of support and care for others? Jug jug jiyo Saras babu! We need men like you in reality!

The other moments I fell for are; Saras looking in alarm at Guman when she invited others. He sensed trouble but still maintained his limits and did not act in a haste. He does keep respectful behaviour towards Guman despite knowing her evil intentions.

Saras observing VC's unrelenting anger and saying to himself now he understood why Kumud is so ziddi. And concluding how he would have to work hard on both of them. (Which MAN thinks like that and is so sensitive?! Wow!)

And last but not the least - MAIN TUMHE HAARNE NAHIN DUNGA KUMUD!

SO awesome.!! Both of them are so sensitive to each others' troubles and would do anything to help each other! PURE LOVE!! Not mere glances or physical chipkoopan!

BTW Kumud is more vocal and was lecturing Saras when she wanted to make him receptive to her help. Whereas Saras is mostly silent and conveys his message and support in quiet actions or few sentences rather than lecturing around. He is equally mature yet equally childlike and vulnerable. But his childlike innocence is PURE and not mischievous or cheap. I LOVE the characterisation of Saraswatichandra!

WHAT A MAN!!! Never seen before on Indian telly!

SLB is master of creating moments in which characters say nothing yet their actions convey much more than what any dialogue could convey! I LOVE these moments and they make a LASTING IMPRESSION STRAIGHT ON THE HEART!

Rare quality and pure visual ART on television in decades!

This is another episode that has won me over completely! (No wonder I can't help expressing myself and am going on about it!)

This is a show to be seen with not just eyes but also felt with the heart and absorbed in the mind!

Sorry for the lebgthy post but I just can't get over tonight's episode! Salute to team SC!

The hard yet sweet truth shown in the serial tonight that after a point of time it is kids who take care of their parents and elders and that elders are also vulnerable at heart despite their veneer of balance & control was conveyed so sensitively in the show through scenes of Kumud with her mother or Saras and Kumari with VC.

Bitchy Guman and her sister did stand out as exaggerated caricatures but the rest of the episode was very realistic and true to life. Really touching!

(P.S. - I am typing away through mobile hence the typos and some spelling mistakes. Please excuse me for it. Thanks.)

Looking forward to more soulful episodes from SC team!

sraras ...aiso ladke aaj kal milte kahan hain...was not these said in promo ...well its true u dont get such boys who can think at such emotional level .

I am married too but my husband does not have this sensitivity level though he is the best thing i have in my life

may be saras himself never got so much love and care and thats why this has made him quit sensitive and he does not want others to suffer emotionaly at least ...well this is rare quality to be seen in a guy who had been devoid of emotional support in his life

@Shana

Thanks for reply. Saras is really rare! Aaj kal? I wonder if aise ladke kabhi huye bhi hain ya nahi!

He is so AMAZINGLY sensitive and perceptive for a man! So intuitive and caring!

For a man with such bitter past (pain and neglect) he has surprisingly developed many qualities within himself and thankfully not grown up tobe a bitter, heartless man himself.

I LOVE HIM!!! (And this is the first time I felt like this for a TV character!)

BTW I want to add that Jenny was looking dazzling today and even more in that scene where she had her hair left loose.

Your analysis is spot on. This serial brings out the strengths of each character beautifully...and refreshingly focuses on both male and female characters alike. And the romantic scenes are never ott.

This post deserved a response just for the sheer effort you put into it.👏 It is indeed rare to see a daily soap giving equal attention to the male and female characters. Kudos to the CVs for that and to the viewer who appreciates the details and the time given to the side characters as well instead of only hankering for the romance.

Well written post, great observations Skepblun.

Gee! Thanks a lot for such an overwhelming response.

It was not really effort for me...the episode was so awesome and the effect it had on me was such that words just came out!

2 decades ago directors like Shyam Benegal, BR Chopra and Hrishikesh Mukherjee had made some classic serials on TV. The way SC is shaping up and if it maintains this standard then I guess the day is not far when SLB will also join the hall of fame of great directors who not only made magic on silver screen but also created history on television.

Thank you very much for your words again. It feels really nice! 😳

Wonderful wonderful post!!!!!! Absolutely loved reading it.. You are so right..this show has a subtle feeling that might not be on your face but very palpable nevertheless.. VC's reaction to this whole incident is so relatable..I would expect my father to behave the same way had he been angry with us for whatever reason.. I actually liked how he accepted the sari from Saras and gave it to his wife, where most of us would have thought he'l turn his back on Saras and leave..His anger and hurt is justified yet that hasnt stopped him from performing his duties as a husband or brother in law or even as a father figure to Saras.. Saras and Kumud scenes were so romantic yet so refreshing from what we are used to watching.. I know many of us must have expected or hoped Kumud to fall in his arms but what we saw was fresh yet so romantic, whether it was the way he patiently waited for her to put her hand on his shoulder, his smile when she did so or whether it was the way he offered her hand to climb down from the chair...just goes to show that simple is always beautiful..Even the scene where they bump into each other was so realistic yet romantic..In a regular show, you would see the girl and the guy having long uninterrupted eyelock before one of them realises.. Here they bump, Saras looks at her mesmerised, she gets conscious and removes his hand from the waist almost immediately..again realistic yet so romantic.. thank you for making this post..!

This post is probably just as soulful as today's episode. I'm not even kidding.
I agree with everything you said! The sheer, brilliant balance between the story of each character really adds to the plot. We see so many differences, so many similarities in all of the family members and it becomes very easy to see how the family functions in result.
The show is also so incredibly human. Even though the haveli is grand, even though Saras is a business typhoon, and even though Guman's sister is a useless character, there is something about this show with which everyone can relate. It really is soulful. I feel pure, personal connection with the show myself, because the emotions each character has (Dugbaa, Saras, VC, Kumud, Gun) are all so incredibly human!

Kudos to you for this brilliant post, kudos to SLB for as always, being as brilliant as he is, kudos to all the actors who make us feel what the characters feel, and kudos to the CVs for such magnificent writing so far! 👏
