Rachel, who won the Supporting Actress Award for 'The Constant Gardener' earlier this year, will be seen as Akshay's leading lady in the film.
If everything goes right, the shooting will begin in October next year.
As per source, the project will bring together top-line talent from Hollywood, India, Britain and Australia.
Akshay will play a rugby player in the film.
Reportedly the project has been inspired by the longest running pop TV show in the same name 'Australian Bandstand'. From 1958 to '72, it revolved around an audience watching singers lip-synching through musical number performed on studio sets. The film to be directed by Warwick Freeman will have international funding, including the backing of a prominent UK-India film distributing company. However, when contacted, Akshay Kumar said, "For once, I wish what the media is saying does come true."
But according to industry sources, the actor has reserved his dates for three months towards October next year for a "very special film that will be a turning point in his career".
