I don't know if someone has created a topic already. Usually, there is a topic right away for the Tellybuzz articles. But I didn't see one made for this one. It is more theater, than Bollywood, but I think it should be acceptable here. We've had discussions about theater folks, TV folks and TV stuff. It's not that off topic.

Anyhow, I didn't know there was a Vagina monologues running in India. I didn't think they would even dare, but its impressive that they have completed 10 years. In North America there is a desi version called Yoni Ki baat. I attended that a couple years ago. It was interesting because all the stories and narratives were all about desi perspectives. I've never been to the English performance, but I read one of the books a few years ago. It is a must read for women. Over years the stories have evolved as local performers add their own stories etc.

Has anyone seen the desi version with Jayati Bhatia? Any thoughts? Lets discuss vajajays because honestly, its better than the Khans. 😆

The Vagina Monologues is the theatre show which is based on stories of women who belong to the unique group of people, who we call survivors. It brings about an awareness between the women. This masterpiece show has completed a long 10 years and it is an achievement in itself.

On the same we got in touch with Jayati Bhatia who also is a part of the show as an actor who said, "It is a very proud moment for our entire team who is associated with the show. It is a milestone that we have achieved and I guess there is yet a very long way to go too. In the very start it was a controversial subject but than with the time it was accepted and appreciated by the people."

Further she added saying, "It has been a remarkable journey so far. In 2003, when we started the show, it was rejected in various parts of our country namely Ahemdabad, Chennai and Lucknow, where we were not allowed to perform at all as people thought that the name of the show itself is bad and that it should be banned. But as I said before, today it is accepted and people celebrate their anniversary, birthdays, occasion by coming and watching our show which makes me feel very proud."

"We can see the way our country has developed in these 10 years. Just where the name itself was a ban of the show we are now going all houseful. Now we are also going to Jaipur to perform, as they have been inviting us from quite some time to come there and conduct a show. It is overwhelming to get such a response from the people. The best part is that through our theatre show we have contributed around 1.5 a crores to an NGO. It is proud moment when we are able to help the needy."

So what exactly are the stories based on? the development of women? Hardships they face? Survivors - domestic abuse?

It sounds kind of boring. I am not much a theater-goer, don't like plays

I have only seen the American versions and they are amazing. These people are crazy, bold, courageous, funny, awkward yet charming when they present... the stories I heard are sad, heart wrenching, hilarious, ridiculous and it just makes you want to embrace all aspects of being a girl whether its annoying things like having hair all over your body and needing to shave to being able to have a child to being shown the worst of what life has to offer but having the courage to build yourself up again.

I dont know if all the Vagina monologues are the same but the one I went to, definitely was worth my time, money, effort and it was amazing. It ended with this video and I really liked it in case some of you havent seen it yet:

Yes. Almost all women issues. They range from hilariously funny like embarrassments of first period or clumsy bad first times to heartbreaking tearjerkers like tales of surviving rape or marital abuse.
