Here is my interpretation to Section 2 of Part 16.
Arnav was asked by Khushi what had made him change so much and why he was not using his trademark expletive What the! Hearing a note of genuine puzzle in her voice, Arnav asked with a soft voice, whether she really is not aware of what had happened to him. His eyes which seemed to be taking a darker hue whenever it lingered on her were noting her reaction. Then with difficulty she verbalized her feelings, saying that she really doesn't have a clue. She told him that there was a huge difference between the person that he was before and the person he has become at present. She posed the three interrogatives, how, why, when?
When Arnav asked her with a smile playing on her lips, whether her perception of love was running around the trees and singing songs? Khushi scowled at him. She was reminded of scenes from the movies where Kajolji standing in a mustard field, Sharukh Khanji looking at Kajolji from a moving train and Kajolji running to catch it, Salman Khanji smiling shyly at Sonali Bhendreji, like her Jiju and Jiji. Seeing the expressions flitting through her face and engrossed in her thoughts he asked her, whether she thought that love was a comfortable feeling making her frown.
Hooking up her eyebrow, she asked a very pertinent question as to when he became an expert on love. Just a few days earlier he used to scorn at love, would twist her arms behind her back and expound his theory of non existence of love and refute all arguments against his theory. He told her that what he wanted to do was pull her into his arms and carry her off to be only with him. With the frustration that he couldn't do so, he used to twist her arm behind her back. He asked her with genuine concern whether it hurt her. Taking her arm gently he ran his fingers lightly along its length caressing just like a pianist runs his fingers along the keys of a Grand Piano stroking it with a skimming feather touch but making an exquisitely pleasing melody. Khushi jerked her arm out of his clasp. She felt that the twisting of her arm was better option. At least then she had her heart under her control. With this soft spoken Arnav, her heart seems to be undergoing varied emotions that were like being caught in a twister, uncontrollable and spiraling all the way.
He confessed that he was unaware of having fallen in love with her. Khushi reflected on his words falling in love. She wondered how anyone could fall in love. Was love a banana peel on the floor to make one fall? Her ruminations made Arnav let a whoop of laughter. She continued with her thoughts on it saying that while falling along, did his anger, his dour face, his impudence loose their way!? Unbelievable! was the epithet that exploded from her mouth imitating him to perfection, making Arnav smile at the mockery. When Khushi looked at him with suspicion he imitated her perfectly, with a smile dancing on his lips, by asking her what? (Kya?) She told him that she was waiting for him to rouse himself up from the fall and out of love with her. She was waiting for him to revert into Laad Governor, Rakshas, Kans Mama all rolled into one, with the fumes of his anger emanating from his ears, to envelope her, with him berating her about her status, lack of character. Saying so, she paused midway. Though those words were spoken quite stoically by her, Arnav could feel the pain behind her words, her reticence in accepting his present changed personality. He himself was pained for inflicting such wounds. When he whispered Khushi.., she told him that she believed that he could not fall in love with her. She stressed that him falling in love itself was weird if he did it was a miracle of sorts but with her, that was next to impossible and just unbelievable!
When Arnav tried to protest calling her name, Khushi, she continued without let him have a word saying that they were too different to have the same likings. He had been telling her and taking great pains to point out since their first encounter that how different they were in every sense. When again he tried to speak all he could say was Khushi and she adamantly told him that this was all a mistake. He would soon come to his senses and realize all this was a passing fancy and he had a lucky escape. Hearing her words, Arnav in a pain laced heavy voice that made him gulp the lump in his throat, before asking her whether she thinks that he would ever regret loving her, Khushi nodded quietly. He continued to ask her to make sure what she was implying, whether she thought that he would desert her like he did on Diwali night? Staring out of the side glass, Khushi agreed with what he said and nodded to him meaning that was exactly what she would expect him to do.
He asked her then that meant that she doesn't trust him to, give her his undivided love, be capable of pledging the vows of marriage to her and be happy with her?
Khushi kept silent, preoccupied with shredding the ends of her dupatta bare. She knew what would come up next. She braced herself to be spewed with the fumes of his anger that was about to explode. But to her surprise all she received a softly spoken question directed to her asking, it all happened too soon didn't it Khushi! She had never expected him to show her his understanding. In fact, she never expected him to understand her point of view period. Khushi looked at him and concurred. He told her in a soft voice, looking at her eyes mired in deep turmoil, that they needed time together to understand one another, time together to get to know one another, time together for her to observe him and develop trust and time to assimilate his love and trust his love for her. Khushi had no other option but to nod at his logical statement and she did. When he asked her whether a period of six months was acceptable to her, she looked into his eyes and read that they were manifesting nothing but sincerity, and then she assented with a nod.
This update is all about RETRIEVE. Surprised!? I myself was!!
But before I come to it I would like to tell something else that I had wanted to discuss in the earlier updates but refrained, as I was curious to know whether what I had thought was the direction that the story was also taking. It seems to be so and I think the time is ripe for it. In fact I had touched this in bits and pieces never mentioning it directly.
All the time we discuss about the insecurity of Arnav Singh Raizada. We say and feel whatever he did was because of his past, feeling of insecurity it gave him. We think he was shaped so by the past events. For Arnav he had a Nani, Mama and Mami to fall back on, who had nurtured him and his sister, provided him with the initial funds for his venture. He had a sister whom he could talk to, share his sorrows as both had undergone the same severe test that they were put under.
What about Khushi Kumari Gupta? Wasn't she too shaped by her past. Won't she have insecure feelings? Who would address it for her. Khushi was all alone in the world. She had to mould her life as per the wishes and norms of her foster family. She had to bear the brunt of the wagging tongues of the society in which they lived. Even with all the adversities she grew up as a happy child who never gave any cause to her foster family to be ashamed of. Of course behind that happy facade there lurks a feeling of insecurity. This she has mastered to effectively camouflage in the guise of sunny disposition.
Ever since Arnav popped the question to her, will you marry me Khushi, she has been in doldrums. Why is it so? Hasn't she seen that he has changed? Can't she make out the difference between the ASR then and Arnav now? Of course, she can and she is intelligent enough too. But what is it that holds her back? In life that she knows as of now she has two things that she holds in priority. One is dignity and character and the other is her foster family. She knows when she has nothing it is these two that helps her to hold her head high! If she accepts Arnav's proposal she would be demeaning herself without getting any proof of his repentance for his acts that were cruel, grim, heartless as well as unkind. The wounds that he had inflicted were deep enough for her to be cautious. Her instinct is to get away from him in self preservation. But her heart sings its own song.
The other priority in her life is her family. What about it? If she agrees to marry Arnav they would be happy. But given his track record she would be taking a high risk. If ever he looses, what she thinks as his fancy towards her, it would become intolerable for them to live together. Then the solution would be separation. But will her family be able to bear the social stigma due to separation or a divorce. Even if they accept won't it affect Payal's life? If she goes away from them, would there be anyone to support them? Right now it is her Buaji's pension and her earnings that are sustaining her family. Will she be able to leave in a lurch, the family that has sheltered her, when no one was there for her as a child. So to take any step she has to be extra cautious. That's what she is doing.
At the fag end of the last update when she posed questions to Arnav it was to find answers to these that were always lurking in her mind.
"Often, what people don't say tell you more about the nature of their insecurities than what they do say"
~ Wayne Gerard Trotman
In this update she points out once again to Arnav that she can believe that he had changed towards so many things related to his environment but personal changes she has her own misgivings as she is not ready to take it up on her head for she feels that it is like falling into a pit in broad daylight that was visible even in the darkness of night.
She who had been insulted time and again of her status and middle class mentality knows that she would not fit in his society unless he has changed. To say is easy but to act is tough. She would like to retrieve her dignity in the first place.
"Belief means nothing without actions"
~ Randa Abdel-Fattah, Does My Head Look Big In This?
She doesn't want to sucuumb to his charm unless proven that he has really changed. She would like to marry only the person whom she could trust. Once during Diwali celebrations she had placed her trust in him which he had shattered. Now he has to earn it as well as retrieve her faith in him to always do the right thing.
"Peace and trust take years to build and seconds to shatter"
~ Mahogany SilverRain
She knows he has anger problems making him do things irrationally and always she was his favorite punching bag. She now knows with the life of her Jiji too at stake she cannot let it sour. Unless he addresses it she'll not be able to decide in his favour.
Now he knows that he has his work cut out to retrieve the trust that he had lost with his anger and stupidity.
"Trust is the glue of life. It's the most essential ingredient in effective communication. It's the foundational principle that holds all relationships"
~ Stephen R. Covey
He is confident of proving to her otherwise and reassure her with his changed personality. Hence he asks whether she would give him six months to woo her, gain her trust and trust his love for her to always do the right thing and to always be by her side. He seeks time to retrieve the lost ground.
"The inability to open up to hope is what blocks trust, and blocked trust is the reason for blighted dreams"
~ Elizabeth Gilbert
That's why it is RETREIVE
That's it from me. Hope you enjoy it!
Yes, Rashmi! It is Khushi's insecurity playing up. And she is not wrong in asking questions & demanding proof of his commitment to her. She would b stupid not to.😃 Once burned twice shy!
That's why all of us were bugged whenever she said, "Hum Samajhte He!" "Hum Jaante He!" etc. Because we knew that she knew nothing.😆 And she knew nothing because Arnav was never shown to repent in the serial, never shown to fully understand the magnitude of the damage he had caused to Khushi & her family through his impetuous actions.😆
How could she claim to know him when half the time he had no idea what he was doing & why?😆
Smita
Actually in the serial, I was bugged that she forgave him so easily without any repentance or remorse. I had been waiting for his repentance track. Even after that without having control on his anger blaming Khushi for his Di's misfortune that was too much too. I wanted to bash the CV's for making her go through torture while during the contract marriage and later portraying her as somebody with not much brains! That Hum jaanthe he was quite irritating too! Where is the dignity if he is given things literally in a platter. Thanks for addressing it!Rashmi.

Here is the interpretation to Section 3 of Part 16.
Arnav who came back after dropping Khushi to her work place called out to his Nani who was having her breakfast along with Mami, DI, NK and Akash. All looked up at him. He told her that he had met Khushi and The Trio were all smiles beaming at each other. He said that Khushi and he had decided to wait for a period of six months before getting married. It was a burst of perfect bombshell that was followed by a moment of silence. Anjali who recovered quickly, blurted out in a stunned faint voice six months? Nani echoed everyone's thoughts and asked her Chootey, why was six months needed. Sipping water from his glass he answered her frankly saying that it was to get to know each other better and he doesn't want Khushi to regret marrying him later.
Incorrigible Mami who possessed sharp wit whispered to her mother-in-law in a wonder laced voice, that their Arnav Bitwa was live-in with Lavanya Kasyap and wait'in with Khussi? Nani glared at her for her remark and turned her attention towards Anjali with worry lurking in her eyes. Anjali who knows her brother thoroughly asked him what was plaguing in everybody's mind if Khushi refused him then what would happen after six months?
But Arnav was confident of Khushi's reply and said that they would get married. He informed them that after Akash's wedding they could fix all the dates and venue and begin the preparation. Nani was not convinced that as a feasible idea and told him that Khushi was not like the other girls and six months without even an engagement, her family might not agree to it. Arnav assured his Nani that he would be circumspect and would see to it that the reputation of both Khushi and her family would not be hurt. The Trio heaved a sigh in relief and were all smiles.
Knowing Arnav's nature of being a go getter they were worried at first if Khushi rejects him what would be his situation. His method of not bothering about what the society thinks was fine by them. But if it puts off the Guptas' what then? How would they placate them was a part of their worry too. Moreover how were they to convince Arnav not to do such things? But his assurance put their mind at rest as they knew Arnav Singh Raizada would do his best once he had given his word. But to get him to promise was the toughest thing.
Akash gave him a warm hug leaning over the table and NK gave his input asking Nannav to marry Khushiji soon or else she would run away scared of his anger. He in his goofed up Hindi told Arnav to Chaat Mangli, Phat Baag! Making Anjali correct it as"NK Bhai, Jhat Mangni, Pat Byah!" NK whose Knowledge of Hindi was limited to what he had spoken as a child scratching his head thought that Hindi had changed beyond recognition since his childhood!
Nani who was a staunch supporter and an admirer of Khushi vociferously declared that Khussi Bitiya would not slink away. If her Chotey roars like a lion Khussi Bitiya would not cower in a corner but would counter roar like a lioness. Nani's retort to NK had everyone in stitches and Arnav let a smile peep out while gazing at his plate. Hearing what Nani had to say NK asked her whether it was a zoo to have lion and lioness! But it was Mami who shared with him her knowledge saying that not at all and they were talking about marriage and marriage was worse than a menagerie making all double up with laughter.
Arnav asked his Nani to call Guptas' and let them know about what they had decided and he told her that he doesn't think that they would putforth any objections but still he would like them to be informed. Nani with a smile showed her approval for his thoughtful behavior.
When the Guptas' came to know of the decision taken by Arnav and Khushi to wait, Buaji exclaimed in the name of Nandkisore six months of wait! But Garima was all for it and told her sister-in-law that it was good. Then the two will have time to get to know one another and Babuji agreed with her. After getting over the initial shock, Buaji with her eyes wide open agreed with a slow nod looking at Khushi who was busy eating the cucumber that she was meant to slice for dinner while watching her favorite program of Kamlesh Kabri on TV. With a smile that made her face rounder still, she commented that Arnav Babua would take up vows of renunciation after the stipulated period of six months of knowing her Sanka Devi, swearing off marriage forever! making Garima and Shashi chuckle.
Next day while Khushi was at work, she looked up to see a young boy holding a big bouquet of Royal Red Rose blooms sporting a pleasant smile and ask was she Khushi Kumari Gupta? Khushi nodded her head with reluctance, wondering why was the stranger asking for her while Munshiji had stepped out for a few minutes to stretch his legs and have his daily quota of paan.
She observed the boy. He had a jacket with a message that read, Take Me Home. Khushi wondered whether he was an orphan and if she took him home, what would be her Buaji's take on it. She was brought out of her reverie when he said that there was a delivery for her and after handing over the bouquet to her he passed on a slip to be signed. Khushi did what was needed in a trance. It was first time somebody had sent her anything. Not understanding anything her eyes darted from the boy to the bouquet. Understanding her plight with a smile handing over a card her explained that "We at Take Me Home Florists are ready to deliver flowers 24 hours, 365 days, Madam. If you ever need our services..."
Khushi was overcome with feelings and she swallowed. With a smile wishing her a pleasant day the boy left. Khushi looked at the spray of fresh, red, dewy, bright, fragrant, thornless, velvety blooms that were too many to count. ( Smita, I counted it was 30 on the picture facing and I assume another thirty on the other side. Guess what it signifies! Interesting!! We know red rose stands for LOVE, PURITY and LOVELINESS. A bouquet of fifty or more stands for UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! Brilliant!!👍🏼 I hope somebody enlightens this to Khushi!!😳)
The card accompanying it carried a message scripted,
"I don't have roses in my garden. So I am planting them today.
I will see you tonight.
Arnav."
Khushi gently tracing over the letters of his hand written message with a finger, bent over the roses and inhaled the soothing sweet aroma, filling her senses with it. Her eyes pooled up and with a swimming vision she looked at the beautiful spray and thought this was the first ever bouquet she received and would treasure it always. She realized that she needed to thank him and picked the cell phone but hesitated thinking that he might be busy. Her mind started to debate maybe he wasn't expecting her to call him, maybe the flowers meant nothing much to him, maybe it was a norm for him to give gifts and presents, maybe he had done the same to Lavanyaji and his other girl friends. She thought giving flowers was an insignificant gesture to him while it held a lot of importance to her, given the disparity in their thoughts. While she was dilly dallying over whether to call or not she was roused by the ringing of her cell phone. It displayed, Arnavji, with a quavering voice, she uttered hello and the answering Khushi in his husky dulcet tone made her knees wobble even when seated. Hearing a stammered Ji, he asked whether she received the roses. The voice itself made a shiver run all along her spine and tremble and stuttered a thanks. He asked her whether she liked them and she said yes. Again when he assured her that he had the thorns removed(but I could see three near the buds on the left side!! 😉) she answered in monosyllable. He asked her what her favorite flower was and her mind refused to recall anything other than the images of red roses. When she took time to answer he asked her which flower she liked the most, which colour she liked and which food was her favorite. He had regret in his voice of not knowing anything of her taste. She murmured that it was red roses. She loved bright rainbow colours and jalebi was her favorite. Arnav smiled with relief that he was bang on target with the flowers and she could sense it over the phone. When he told her that he had got her the most aromatic Royal Red blooms, she replied that the godown was now filled with sweet scent of it and asked him, what was his favorite flower?
He was at a loss as he had never thought any particular flower that way and said that he had never thought over it. Hence forth it would be the red rose he said shrugging his shoulders. Khushi laughed imagining his expression and it was like a peal of soft bells to his ears bringing a smile on his lips. Khushi now a bit more relaxed and was quite eloquent in thanking him for his sweet gesture. She thanked him in a soft voice, saying that it was a first for her and he was the first to give her flowers. Arnav gulped hearing it and a moment later asked in a soft tender voice, your first bouquet to confirm whether he had heard it correctly and when she said it was, he told her then to be ready and paused. This made her curious and she asked in a puzzle filled voice, for what was she to be ready? He told her to be ready for the many firsts in a honeyfilled voice, his tone teasing with naughty intention. Khushi grasping the implication stood still with her heart hammering away, fingers nerveless and the phone sliding away.
This update is about Arnav Singh Raizada
Here is a man who is cheerful, confident and in a word SANGUINE. He is showing why he is a successful businessman. Even in adverse environment he doesn't loose his cool. He is full of self belief and he not only keeps his head clear of clutters, placates others too with his confidence. He has shown how to make a deal with advantages to both the parties. He is not compromising. He followed the principle followed by Gandhi during the freedom struggle of taking one step back and two steps forward. Let me show you how these are incorporated in this update.
"Trust your instincts, and make judgements on what your heart tells you. The heart will not betray you"
~ David Gemmell, Fall of Kings
In the beginning of the update when he announces to his family that he and Khushi have decided to wait for six months, he has shown he has made a deal as well as followed the principle followed by Gandhi during the freedom struggle.
When he gives the reason as to get to know one another and to let Khushi have no regrets when they marry he has thrown a curve ball and taken a risk that the others point out. But he is cool.
He not only placates them that it was essential and tells them with confidence that he will woo her and marry her. Only thing that was needed was the time for her to make her mind.
"The best things are never arrived at in haste. God is in no hurry; His plans are never rushed"
~ Michael Phillips
He is cool when his granny tells that Khushi can hold herself up when Arnav is in a fit of anger. She compares them to lion and lioness. Though others have a laugh he is unruffled by their laughter.
Even when they talk of marriage being worse than a zoo his mind is not cluttered by this talk but dwelt on what needed to be done and asked his Nani to call the Guptas' to inform them of the decision. He gains approval from his Nani for his correct decision. Earlier he had given his word to her that he would be circumspect in his behavior and not defame anybody's reputation.
"The greatest accomplishment began as a decision once made and often a difficult one"
~ Michael Rawls
In the Gupta House though Buaji expresses reservation, Amma and Babuji overrule it and stand by the decision. Buaji thinks that Arnav might get fed up with Khushi's crazy antics but never thinks Khushi might not like him! Such is his character reference now.
"When you find a man you wish to marry, remember this: You will know what kind of man he is not by the things he says, but by the things he does"
~ Cassandra Clare, Clockwork Angel
He now lets on his famous charm to woo Khushi whom he has realized as the one who completes him. He now knows that she is the one who understands even subtle changes in his moods and is able to respond in a way that soothes him. Her presence itself is a source of calm and happiness to him.
"Being with you and not being with you is the only way I have to measure time"
~ Jorge Luis Borges
But to achieve that he knows he has an uphill task and sets about doing it. Now he has set his mind to woo her and let her see that Arnav Singh Raizada has changed forever and all thanks to her.
So on Day One he sends her a bouquet of flowers in the morning with a message that he would meet her in the evening and calls her as soon as the flower is delivered.
"Love is strong yet delicate. It can be broken. To truly love is to understand this. To be in love is to respect this"
~Stephen Packer
He doesn't get ordinary roses. He gets Royal Red Roses and that too numbering more than fifty symbolizing Unconditional Love.
The florist he has chosen is Take Me Home Florist which is quite significant. By getting the bouquet delivered by them he has asked Khushi to take his unconditional love to its home that is her heart.
"The only way love can last a lifetime is if it's unconditional. The truth is this: love is not determined by the one being loved but rather by the one choosing to love"
~ Stephen Kendrick, The Love Dare
When he calls her he realizes that it was the first bouquet that she had received and he is elated and tells her to be ready for many more firsts in her life hence forth. He wants to be the one to give her all that she never had before.
"Unconditional love is hard to compete with"
~ Abbi Glines, Because of Low
So going through all these don't you think Sanguine Arnav Singh Raizada, a debonair Businessman will use all his skills to woo Khushi, convince her of his changed personality and above all win over her enough to place her trust in him.
"His sanguine spirit turns every firefly into a star"
~ Arthur Conan Doyle, Sr.
That's why this update is called SANGUINE.
That's it from me. Hope you enjoy it.
