Arjun could have refused to marry Ovi. He is a grown man, older than both girls, he could have told Purvi to take a flying leap. He did not.
If Purvi had asked him to kill someone, would Arjun have? Because he loved her, or 'cos she gave him his kasam or because he wanted to prove his love, would Arjun have been idiotic enough to have murdered someone at Purvi's request? If he had, the law would not have held Purvi responsible for goading him but would have recognized Arjun as the criminal for committing the crime and would have put him behind bars. Same way, Arjun needs to be held at least partly responsible for ruining his happiness and going forward with the marriage to Ovi.
Arjun is making an attempt to be happy, he pretends to have this happy life with Ovi, parties, thanking her for his success, at least he is trying to move on. If he is unable to lie on the bed he made, why should Purvi be punished for his inability to forget her?
As for sleeping with Ovi because of Purvi, that makes Arjun worse than spineless. How was he able to go through with the act if he was not attracted to Ovi? If he loved Purvi, it should have been a physical impossibility. So, he can "try" to be happy, "try" to lead a normal life with Ovi, have a baby with her but since he is unable to forget Purvi, Puvi should be doomed to a life of unhappiness?
Since Purvi had the baby with Arjun, she should never sleep with her husband, never move on but should wait on the sidelines for Arjun to give her his longing looks while he publicly acknowledges Ovi as his wife. She should continue being humiliated by Ovi just so that Arjun could have the satisfaction of knowing that his Purvi has not moved on and is still in love with him. He can merrily make other babies with Ovi while still giving yearning looks at Purvi who holds her loving husband at arm's length. Where is the fairness in this?
The girl gave up the love of her life for her mother, no one gave her a second thought after the marriage. After an initial pat on the back, her Aai went to live with her family, Arjun was with Ovi, life went on as before. She was forced to run away because of her unwanted pregnancy and Ovi's tirade. Who knows what fears she faced alone? It was her good fortune that Onir came to her rescue, did not judge her, and took her for his own. Why begrudge her this haven?
Did Arjun make an attempt to find her when she ran away? Did he wonder what if that night at the hut when he was the one who made the moves had perchance resulted in a pregnancy for Purvi? How could he after that night give up on her, be it at her behest? How could he move on with Ovi two weeks after she left? He was desperate to be happy, his life was hell so he was wiling to give it a shot with Ovi. Understandable, at the end of the day as a human being, he was trying to settle and make amends with whatever he had been dealt.
Same understanding should be accorded to Purvi. She at least tried to make amends by righting his life with Ovi, brought Onir to Mumbai at the risk of her own shaky marriage to treat Ovi, gave up her child painfully so that Arjun and Ovi could have a second chance. Her anguish at the hospital was real, maybe it is easier now that the child is with its natural dad and a caring aunt who believes she is the birth mother. What more could we ask of her? Be a sanyasin for the rest of her life to give Arjun the satisfaction she is his alone?
If Arjun is unable to forget Purvi, it is tragic and all that but there is no turning the clock back, very, very sad but such is life. If Arjun has moved on, however unhappily, however, unwillingly, the same quarter should be given to Purvi.
I was watching their old scenes from February & April of last year and felt awful that such a wonderful love story had gone to nought. The CVs have butchered it beyond belief and if the new article is to be believed, there is no ArVi in the near future.
