Bollywood actor attacked for protesting against water wastage on Holi Zeenews Bureau

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar, who has been in the industry for a long time now, had to face the wrath of the residents of his housing society when he tried to prevent water wastage during Holi celebrations yesterday.

In an attempt to stop water wastage by the residents of Versova in Mumbai, Amrapurkar informed a local TV channel about the 'rain dance' at Panchavati building in his neighbourhood and requested the channel to shoot the happening to keep a record of the malpractice.

But things went awry when the residents 'enjoying' the rain dance took objection to the shoot and "thrashed the cameraperson and stole the video." Even Amrapurkar, who was present at the venue, was pushed and threatened.

The police have recorded the statements given by Amrapurkar, the channel's camera-person and have also registered a case against five people responsible for the misdeed.

Roles reversed: 'Villain' Sadashiv Amrapurkar beaten up
He was a fearful villain till the other decade, but on the afternoon of Holi, Sadashiv Amrapurkar was trying to save his hide from neighbours after he chastised them for wasting water. Sadashiv Amrapurkar drew the ire of residents of his neighbouring housing society in Versova once they spotted him and a cameraman filming a 'rain dance', a popular part of Holi celebrations in Mumbai. According to reports, Sadashiv Amrapurkar tried to stop them from wasting water, particularly when the water-starved state is going through its worst drought ever. Sadashiv Amrapurkar later said a group of five to six 'drunk' men surrounded him and beat him up. He has registered a case in the Versova police station. The veteran actor has also alleged that no one from his housing society came out to help him. Police sources said residents were angered because Amrapurkar alerted a TV channel about the 'rain dance'. The film fraternity took to Twitter in support of the veteran actor following the assault. "What!vetern actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar beaten up for protesting against wastage of water.this is intolerable.action must be taken right now," tweeted Manoj Bajpayee. Actor Ranveer Singh wrote: "Sadashiv Amrapurkar was harassed by his colony people. He protested against water wastage when rain dance was going on..! I am with u SIR." Sadashiv Amrapurkar is a popular actor, who is well known for his performances in Marathi and Hindi films. He won the Filmfare Award for 'Best Performance in a Negative Role' in 1991 for Sadak, for playing a eunuch.

He was born Ganesh Kumar Narwode to an auto driver in Nasik in 1956. He adopted the name Sadashiv in 1974. He was cast in Ardh Satya by director Govind Nihalani as the villain.

What happened with him is bad. But also others talking about water wastage.. One day, actually few hours of Holi causes them so much trouble. How about trying this as well?

After all the platitudes about water wastage someone tries to do something about it and he gets beaten up. Is it any surprise that India has so many issues? If citizens are themselves not conscious about their own contribution to society then the best governments and law enforcing agencies cant help us out.

And I stand firm to my statement that India is, after all, a failure! There is just about nothing that is right about India - whether it's the people and their mentalities, infrastructure, poverty, facilities, or anything else related! India is a just a big lump of social and moral embarrassment!

And yeah, please don't me started on how well it has done in the fields of medicine, IT, this and that! The last time I checked, my native Indian town and its neighboring areas lacked computers and even a proper school to teach basic subjects! On the other hand, people have died of all sorts of fevers and prolonged ailments. To hell with all the IT and medical developments - If the citizens are dying day in and out, without proper care and attention, no development stands credible in its existence and progress!
