Forum 32-Takiya Kalams - Arjun

Every show has their set of crutch phrases, "takiya kalaams" that a character or characters use and ultimately keep you enthralled. Takiya Kalaams (nothing to do with pillow talk!) are phrases that become signature dialogues for a character.

In Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, there was Mamiji who used "Hello Hi! Bye Bye!" a seemingly meaningless phrase that caught on with the audience and many even started using it in their day to day life. Yes, these phrases are inspired by real life people who repeat a phrase and it could be as inane as "You Know!"

The ingenuity of writers is to bring phrases like, "Oho!" by Shireen Ahmed Khan (Shabnam Sayed) which illicit a smile every time she says it. Then there is "Mein boloongi toh bologe ke bolti hai!" by Razia Begum Siddiqui (Alka Kaushal) which makes you want to make her shut up. And of course, the very effervescent, "Allah Miyan!" What's wrong with you?" by Zoya Farooqui (Surbhi Jyoti) makes you shake your head and say, "Here she goes again!" Qubool Hai has such phrases that give you hint of what is to follow or a sense of deja vu. Each time the phrase is said you end up remembering moments like those.

In Arjun – Har Yug Mein Aayega Ek, Arjun Suryakant Rawte (Shallen Malhotra) has such phrases as well. "Samjhe… ya Samjhaoun…!" has caught on with the audience so well that we hear people around us use it in the inimitable manner that Arjun says it. And of course, his other pet phrase is "Kuch toh chhoot raha hai." ACP Sameer Rathore (Behzaad Khan) has his own catch phrase, "Damn It!" which he says when something frustrates him.

In Suvreen Guggal – Topper of the Year, we have Yuvraj Singh (Shivin Narang) expound, "Tera Bhai Cheetah hai Cheetah!" and that is preempting of situation where we know he is going to deal with a tough situation. Even Suvreen Guggal (Smiriti Kalra), uses "O! Teri!" every once in a while.

These phrases have become a norm in Hindi Series. Along with these phrases there are dialogues which leave a mark on you as an audience. Whether movies or series, there are lines which a character says that touch you. Tell us what do think of when these crutch phrases come up on screen. Also dialogues that leave a mark on you.
