Hello!
I'm RC, I've been meaning to pen my thoughts on this show down (or random ramblings yes details details😆) for a while now and so here I am.
SC is one of those shows that thrives on the drama and exploits the extravagant. Basically - my cup of tea.😃
SLB has always been the kind of storyteller who does like his movies to be larger than life and SC is no less. In the sense that his characters have exaggerated personality traits.
Take Saras for example - the way he physically exerts himself when things go wrong around him. Or Kumud's entry scene when she jumps into the pond to retrieve a pearl and her righteous personality.
These characters create a fantasy in the minds of the audience. We all lead dull lives and to tap this urge for people to escape into this fairy tale world (will be)is SC's success.
Not that SC is all about the fairytale picture. But that is certainly one main aspect of it's success.
Another thing that really drew me to the show is the strong female character.
Kumud has a strong personality. Let's keep aside whether it's good/bad/ugly. It is a bold personality. She has distinct character traits. We see so many female characters who are so hard to remember at the end of the day but Kumud stands out. She shines.
For me a strong female lead is the most important criteria for watching a show and SLB has done a fabulous job with Kumud.
A woman standing up for herself and doing what she thinks is right and holds her ground, brilliant characterization.
The fact that people think she's too arrogant/horrible/etc, I'm sorry in my opinion it's the inability of the audience to accept a strong female character. Yes she is stubborn and hasty and all those other things but at the same time that makes her that much more real for me.
Confused? What is it real or larger than life?
Both. Kumud is both far-fetched and very real as well. That's why I love her character so much.
Now hold your horses I haven't forgotten about Saras.
Here's is an emotionally volatile character. Vulnerable and yet so very strong.
Yes we do seem to be working on contradictions. Saras is this confused, trying-to-find-his-way-in-life kind of damaged young man. His virtues are his escape from the stark reality of his past.
A very intriguing character Saras is. He respects everyone around him. Honestly that's a breathe of fresh air in Indian TV! All those arrogant overrated male leads were beginning to annoy me.
SC is one of my favourite things on tele at the present. The background score sets my heart racing and the leads make me swoon. Plus the sets are just too gorgeous for words.
It is the complete package.

PS-I haven't really talked about the actual storyline or actors, we'll leave that for another post I think 😆 This is me saying hello!
