CHAPTER 63:
Geet stood in the kitchen, making breakfast; her mind felt like a whirlpool today. Her thoughts were out of control like her heartbeats. It had started yesterday since they had returned. Come to think of it, it had started as soon as she had opened her eyes in that shack. "Why is he confusing me so much Babaji? Help karo na!" she looked up and prayed cutely.
She was so lost in her cribbing that she didn't even notice when he entered the kitchen. She realized his presence only when his arms snaked around her waist, pulling her tautly against his hard body.
"Koi problem hai Geet?" He whispered huskily in her ear, his lips grazing her lobe, sending shivers down her spine. "Babaji ko kyu disturb kar rahi ho? Mai hu na tumhare pass."
She had not yet recovered from his closeness, when he sniffed the air and exclaimed, "Wow! Something smells delicious!"
He leaned forward to see what she was cooking, "Pasta! Geet, tum mere mann ki baat kaise padh leti ho? Mera itna mann tha pasta khane ka! And it looks yummy! Mai ready hoke aata hu!" He grinned and rubbed his stomach in anticipation like a kid sighting delicious candy. His other hand that was still around her turned her in his arms and placing a sweet peck on her lips, he muttered a swift "Thank you!" and walked out, leaving a befuddled Geet behind.
"Babaji kya unhone wapas WOH kiya?" she cribbed loudly as she thought he was out of earshot, but to her chagrin, he reappeared before her and whispered seductively, "Geet use WOH nahi…use kiss kehte hai!" And taking his chances, he placed another peck on her trembling lips, laughing as he went away imagining the adorable pout on her face.
But then he had misjudged his temperamental wife. The murky haze which surrounded her common sense in his presence lifted as soon as he left and her brain started working. She became angry at his shenanigans, angrily muttering to herself. "Aajkal inki nayi hobby ho gayee hai! Jab dekho flirt karte rehte hai!" her inner demon reminded her about Tani and she became more incensed.
She quickly grabbed some bread butter along with the pasta and left to lay the table. As she was about to go back, she saw him coming out wearing THAT BLUE SHIRT.
Her anger melted into a puddle and sidled away as she stared at him, the picture of elegance. She groaned internally, "Bas isi ki kami thi!"
Maan smirked as he saw her spaced out expression and taunted, "Mujhe pata hai mai bahoot handsome lag raha hu par mujhe office ke liye der ho rahi hai. Breakfast jaldi lagao!"
Brought back from her la la land, she gave him a glare which would have made a lesser mortal shrivel and die, and stalked back to the kitchen to get the tea and coffee. Staring at the coffee in her hand, she made a distasteful moue at the bitter smell emanating from it when a thought stuck her mind. She grinned evilly as she set about settling scores with her despot of a husband.
Maan waited with anticipation as she emerged staring at the lovely picture she presented, piping hot coffee in the hands of his fiery hot wife. Could a man ask for more?
His morning had started seeing her beautiful face beside him on the pillow. She looked so serene that he had just watched her for eons, till she had woken up. And then he had pretended to sleep, to avoid any awkwardness for her. He knew she was not comfortable with this enforced intimacy, but he wasn't about to relent. He would talk to her tonight and clear out everything, he promised himself.
Well, thinking about it, he wondered when would the day come when she would bring him coffee in bed. Her hair wet from the shower, dripping water on her face, her bangles tingling as she woke him up. He would grab her and ….
*poke* *poke* *poke*
His unruly thoughts were rudely interrupted by her incessant poking as she had failed to gather his attention by calling out to him.
"Abhi to inko late ho raha tha. Aur abhi dekhiye! Inka na Babaji kuch samajh nahi aata mujhe!" she complained. He glared at her for her heinous crime while unperturbed; she sat down beside him and started eating pasta.
Annoyed at having his delicious daydream interrupted, Maan grabbed a spoon noisily and tried to ladle some onto his plate but to his chagrin, her hand whacked his away! "Ye aapke liye nahi hai! Mere liye hai!" she sniped. She started wolfing down the pasta, making enthusiastic sounds while coolly ignoring him. Maan stared at her unbelievably, but she was not going to bend. "Geeett!" He gritted between clenched teeth. "Kya hua? Chilla kyu rahe ho? Wo rahi aapki kadvi coffee. Aapko wohi suit karti hai!"
"Kya din aa gaye hai! Abhi insaan ko apne ghar me ek dhang ka breakfast bhi nahi mil sakta hai!" he whined dramatically. She turned a blind eye and continued appreciating her breakfast. "Geet! Mujhe bhook lagi hai!" He cribbed cutely. "To khaiye na. Wo raha bread aur butter. Aaram se khaiye!" she stated.
Exasperated with her, he grabbed his coffee. His face turned to puce, and he sputtered as soon as he took a sip, and he started choking as the coffee went down the wrong way.
"Geeet…" he yelled, as he grabbed a couple of tissues to clean up, his eyes spitting fire.
"Coffee acchi nahi lagi? Maine to bilkul aapki pasand ki banayee hai. SUGARFREE." she queried innocently.
He just glared at her, unable to form words, wanting to strangle the impossible woman sitting in front of him as she tried to hide her sniggers.
"Kya hua? Aapne mujhe coffee me shakkar daalne se mana kiya tha. Kabhi ye nahi kaha tha ke 'Geet! meri coffee me namak mat dalna'" she mimicked his angry voice.
Royally pissed off, he got up and was about to walk away when Geet grabbed his hand. "It's bad manners to leave food and get up from the table. Chup chap baithiye aur breakfast kijiye." she scolded.
Somewhat mollified by her stopping him, he maintained his high attitude, "Par mujhe to tumhara wala pasta hi khana hai! Mujhe laga tumne mere liye banaya hai!" To which she sniped again, "Aapke liye mai kyu banaungi? Pichli time banaya tha tabhi to fek diya tha…" she bit her tongue as she saw his expression change instantly. The naughty carefree expression that she was used to seeing for the past two days was instantly replaced by a deep despair.
His orbs were pools of pain and self loath, as he quietly withdrew from the table.
"Maan!" she called feeling guilty. She hadn't wanted to dredge up old bygones, but it had just slipped past in a moment of carefree jest.
"It's ok Geet. I should have realized that some things can never be forgotten." He smiled at her but the smile didn't reach his eyes.
Maan was drowning in guilt, as she pointed out the visible cracks in their relationship. His deeds had been too hurtful to forget, but she had forgiven him. And he being the insensitive b******* he was, had still stuck to his prejudices.
"I have a meeting in Delhi, mai chalta hu. I want you to rest today. Don't even think of stepping out of the house. I have talked to Naintara, she will ensure that you don't." As Geet was about to protest that she was fine, he cut her off, "I know you are fine. But humor me. Please?"
He looked at her, his eyes tracing the signs of their traumatic experience gently. He was about to leave when she caught his hand from behind. "Maan, please thoda kha lijiye." She pleaded which brought a genuine smile to his face. He leaned forward to peck her forehead saying, "Bas mera pet bhar gaya!" solemnly.
Still feeling guilty, Geet hurriedly got up to make him some fresh coffee as he collected his files.
To buy her some time, Geet asked him what he had told Naintara and everyone else. He told her not to worry about them; they won't ask her any questions as he had spoken to them already.
She came to him with a fresh cup of coffee, her eyes pleading with him to take it. Maan shook his head, smiling at his selfless angel, and grabbed the cup. Looking into those guilt ridden eyes, he wanted to banish the shadows lurking there and bring back his feisty Geet.
Straightening up, he looked away and scowled, "Geet ye kaisi coffee banayi hai tumne?"
"Kyu kya hua Maan? Coffee acchi nahi bani hai?" She asked anxiously, "Aap do minute rukiye, mai abhi doosri bana ke lati hu." she begged as she tried to take the cup from his hand.
"Nahi Geet, coffee to theek bani hai…." he looked at her from the corner of his eyes, "….lekin isme shakkar nahi hai." and made a face.
Geet started at him angrily, "You are making fun of me again! Since when do you take sugar in your coffee? Chaddo! Aapke liye kuch karna hi nahi chahiye." She cribbed.
He laughed silently looking at her glowering face, and gently grasped her by her waist, pulling her hard against him. Her cribbing stopped midway as she felt his fingers touching her cheek, pushing a curl behind her ear. His eyes looked at her intently, focusing on her lips, the look so passionate that her lips quivered as if they had been touched.
His fingers went behind her neck, entangling in the thick mass of her hair while his thumb gently caressed her blushing cheek. Her whole body trembled with his nearness, fire shooting through her veins as she waited for his next move. His eyes sought hers for permission to proceed, and he tugged her closer each delicious second at a time, prolonging the anticipation. His lips stopped just a micrometer away from hers, his hot breathe mingling with hers, making her moan his name aloud in need.
Needing no more persuasion, his lips took hers in a deep soulful kiss while his hands banded her against his body. She moaned his name against his lips and he took advantage to deepen the kiss. His tongue darted into the warm cavern of her mouth to kiss her thoroughly. At first Geet was too shy to respond, but his skilful mouth working its magic on her played havoc on her senses and she kissed him back wholeheartedly, forgetting her inhibitions. She melted against him, her body craving for those touches which her subconscious mind remembered.
For the first few seconds, he kept it tender and sweet making Geet crave for more. She knew they had kissed before, but either she had been drugged or drunk to remember.
He pulled away from her, breaking of the kiss, to lean his head into the crook of her neck and planted a moist kiss there before whispering, "Aaj kal mujhe meetha accha lagne laga hai Geet!" leaving a breathless and blushing Geet behind.
