There is an article in HT Cafe', sorry unable to post it, where our efforts have been mentioned.

Just mention what it states:

Parichay ended this week and it has not gone down well with the fans. They have been creating a ruckus on social networking sites demanding season 2 for their ''favorite show''.
Rest the article states that channels are skeptical on getting seasons. A negative article.

Pls if possible some one post the article here.

Anything but a season

Indian audiences and channels don't seem to be ready for seasons of hit shows.

Parichay went off air this week, but fans of the show have been making quite a ruckus on social media demanding season 2 of their "favourite show". Several other shows that went off-air recently, like Pratigya, Saubhagyavati Bhav and Saas Bina Sasural, too were in the news for a probable second season. However, Indian audiences and channels don't seem to be ready for seasons of hit shows, unlike in the west.

Here, serials go on for 1,000+ episodes because channels are scared of losing their loyal audience if they give it a break. A decade ago, we had weekly shows. Then, daily soaps took over because channels realised it was better to keep audiences hooked than letting them go in search of something better. It is this insecurity that leads to plots going haywire and TRPs dipping. Yet, makers refuse to shut shop. Somehow, they feel that introducing new tracks and characters is okay, but ending a show is not.

It was a first when Ekta Kapoor launched Kutumb 2 (2002), and projected it as season 2 of the popular show that had Hiten Tejwan and Gauri Pradhan in the lead. But its storyline had no connection to the earlier season. The only common factor between the two was that the plot revolved around lead characters named Pratham (Hiten) and Gauri (Gauri). Other serials, like Baa Bahoo Aur Baby, Kitani Mohabbat Hai and Chhoti Bahu, too have used a similar ploy to retain audiences.

Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha is probably the first fiction show that went in for a season 2 in which story is being taken forward with the same characters and cast. But there's a catch.

If a decade ago transition was made from weekly shows to daily shows then why not make a transitions to seasonal format now?😕 There are plenty of advantages , foremost being there can be a definitive script , the performances will be better (there can be rehersals etc) , the overall production can be better (more time , no rush to finish of the days epi).😕
Sounds far more appealing than having to endure senseless crap in the name of TRP's.If a kidnapping incident gets TRP's on one show and you can be assured every other show will soon show it.Creativity , innovation is curbed because of this mindless 'catch-me-if-you-can' game with TRP's!😕
All this scared of doing sounds like a excuse to remain mediocre and complacent!

^ Agree with what you have said Chits. Seasonal formats are a much better way of exercising creativity and bringing something new to the plate in terms of storylines/plots/tracks. However, the key problem is that the Indian Television Industry as a whole does not UNDERSTAND the concept of a SEASONAL FORMAT. Bound scripts, rehearsals, limited episodes and definitive months of airtime are like alien concepts to the Indian makers as well as the audiences. Even the Na Bole Tum...so called "season 2" is not really a season either because it really does not have any of the characteristics that are associated with the seasonal format, it is more of a continuation and the story is still governed by TRPs. All the other shows that were rehashed and presented as second seasons were also just an attempt to recreate the leads love story within a different context. How this can be called a new "season" is anyone's guess..🤔

The biggest issue is definitely the TRP crap. They need to invent some method of either monitoring or controlling it because it is probably the biggest factor which determines the tracks in a show and how quickly a show heads towards its grave. Until they resolve this desperate race to grab eyeballs, I don't see how the seasonal format will work. Plus, I think there are also pragmatic issues, can the hundreds of people, mostly behind the scenes, afford to not have a constant source of income while the show is on a seasonal break? It is probably too complicated for Indian shows because the whole season thing requires a lot of prepping and planning.

Really ? Is that why NBT got season 2 ? Why Pratigya , SBS and some other shows are gearing up for Season 2?
