Honestly I do not know how and why this decision was made. But from various interviews and especially SKs interview, I can only guess to some extent. It is quite clear that the team knew about KKs request for a break for a while now. So that was not news for anyone. And from SKs same interview it also appears that irrespective of KK's request, she and the entire team of PH, cast and crew were ready to keep the show running till the end of their contract, which appears to be end of May or early June...
So in my humble opinion this decision to end in March must have been the channel's. And they may have had their own reasons, the primary one being their unwillingness to compete with IPL this year, considering the current tracks were not as powerful as what they showed last year. Secondly, closing shop now on account of IPL must have made more economic sense. So I think the decision about the last date was a shock for the entire team of cast and crew, including KK.
And please pardon me for saying this, but if you feel you could detect SKs disappointment in his acting at any point then he is simply not doing his job right. This is neither his first show and hopefully will not be his last, so he is not new to this feeling. In fact anyone in this business is and has to always be mentally prepared for this day. Its part of the nature of this profession and as a true professional SK is well aware of this. So any lapse that anyone can detect is probably because we are extra sensitive right now... BTW, I did not find anything wrong or misplaced.
