A few questions for the people angry with Kumud

Here I am again with another fired up post.

I saw a lot of posts today (by the wonderful girls who love the adorkable Saras) which criticized Kumud. While I really think your sentiments are great, I am here to defend Kumud with a few questions. I am too lazy to type any essay cause I am doing an OS next! Stay tuned. Plug in done. Moving to questions -

1. Why should a girl always be uber nice and meek? Don't we have enough nice, little meek girls in soaps? Since when are real life desi girls so meek? I thought Indian women had a great reputation for being fiesty.

2. Why is it okay when someone like Arnav, Asad or any other soap MALE character is arrogant, but not okay if the FEMALE character has some pride? Or even some arrogance? Is arrogance an object of male ownership? Or it simply that we are mostly girls and like the male character no matter what?

3. A girl like Kumud hasn't had a lot of men to wield power over and she can feel that Saras is at her mercy. This is the guy who was intended for her. If she can't be a little bit of a tease and ask him to fetch her something...then when will she ever have right to flirt with a guy?

4. What would you do if someone brutally rejected you like that and hurt all your family and indirectly embarrassed you for falling in love for the first time? Since when is love so fair and rational that you can just forgive and forget?

5. If Kumud didn't know, why so much anger? This is her man 😳, she can demand anything she wants from him, isn't that romantic?

6. Kumud is competitive and it is in her character to shine and be the winner at everything from school to kite flying. She is the queen bee of the Desai family, no doubt about that. Wouldn't you get competitive if someone who rejected you and put you down unintentionally (however nice he may be) suddenly stole your limelight?

7. As a reader here pointed out and I agree...why should she accept Saras' flirtations nicely when he has rejected her and is just bidding time to do so. Why should she show her face just so that he can make her feel more humiliated (her point of view) by rejecting her after seeing her? How much would that hurt?

8. Why should Saras not take her tantrums. He slighted her so badly. Why can't she slight him? He gave up his chance, so why does he want it now? Why would she want to get burned again by showing her face? If a guy loves you, you would hope he loves your tantrums too. 😉

Kumud is human, flawed, smart, fierce, fiesty and yes, a little arrogant. Well-earned pride and vanity too. That's why her characterization is nearly perfect to me. I don't like meek mousies from other soaps, so I don't want her to be nice and blend in. What do you say?

This is just my set of questions to you from my very biased, Kumud-loving point of view 😃. Please comment.

Very well said Mary!
I honestly love her characterization!
And I realize that what she did caused SC a lot of pain, but she was unaware of the past and had no intention to dig up his old wounds
How could she when she was still oblivious to his past?

And your points are just perfect!
1 - Ikr.. I've had enough of the lame "ideal" girl crap :P don't mind the language there 😛

2 - Ugh! Tell me about it! Tab toh it's acceptable.. Why the sexism??

3 - Agreed! It was purely for the sake of some fun.. She didn't mean for it to turn out the way it did! All she wanted to do was to have some harmless fun with the teasing!

4 - Amen!! No words.. You've pinpointed it very well!

5 - You know, I never thought of that! But it's totally true!

6 - With personal experience, I totally relate! Obviously I'd feel threatened, speaking with exaggeration of course.

So all in all, I'm in total favour of your arguments
I guess that makes me a totally biased Kumud-lover too
But I don't mind
I like it that way anyway ;D

Btw, awesome post :D

Well said, dear!

As viewers we always sympathize the victim. But in real, Kumud is unaware of SC's past. Had she known that Saraswati committed suicide there, sure that she won't ask him to get the kite for her.

She's still smarting from the rejection, and added to this is her family's adulation of Saras at the kite flying festival. She's only human, as you rightly point out. Plus, she didn't know the enormity of what she'd done, since she had no way of knowing about Saras 's connection to that pond. We really need to cut her some slack here..

honestly I so so so so love Kumud...she is so much like us...no matter how sweet we might be, we all have some kind of arrogance in us, especially at things we are good at..and Kumud is just like that...she is sweet, cute, beautiful, gutsy, confident, practical and egoistic as well whenever appropriate...and being arrogant or egoistic isn't necessarily a bad thing!! moreover, how was Kumud to know Saras' past? it's not like she sent him into the pond despite knowing his past...in fact, credit goes to Kumud's attitude and arrogance as well that I love watching Saras-Kumud so much.

Thank you!!! My exact thoughts. Maan, Asad, and Arnav all three can push and shove...manhandle...accuse while their female companions listen to every bit...and get hurt...well that is sexy...hot...passionate!!

When a girl acts arrogant...egoistic...with pride she is mean...rude...annoying...crossed her limits.

We cannot forget that BOTH took this all as a game...it was just for fun! If she knew would she have done this!? NO!!! She had noo idea!! It was unintentional , and as soon as she found out she had tears in her eyes and guilt. Someone mean and heartless wouldn't have given a sh**.

Although today what happened I take it as a positive thing. I think this was needed, now Kumud will see Saras in a different way...perhaps she will realize this is that pain, innocence, look of loneliness in Sara's eyes that she saw and fell in love with.

She's the most relatable character I have ever seen, everyone has their pride and if it's hurt they do stupid sometimes unforgivable things and that's exactly what Kumud did
