"
I should leave now geet..."Kiran spoke grabbing geet's attention who was lost somewhere since the moment Kiran told her the reason behind her visit to her room at this hour in the night.."I am really sorry for disturbing your sleep, though i did not mean to do so.."She spoke further with little regret.
"I should be sorry for disturbing your sleep di..Moreover maan should be sorry for doing this..He called you this late at night for making you check my blanket.."Geet said in low pitch so her voice could not disturb the kids.
"No..no he did not call me now geet..He asked me to check you when he had called earlier this evening..."Kiran informed her.."Moreover,I wasn't asleep yet as i was busy with the packing,geet.."
"okay di..I am going to miss you all alot.."Geet spoke looking longingly towards aarav and aaravi..
"Me too geet.."Kiran exclaimed immediately with damp eyes.
"Di..can we talk for a while???" Geet asked as she pulled the blanket towards one side to make some space for Kiran to sit on the bed.
"Why not geet..." Kiran consented gladly taking a seat on the bed.
"Di..Did you talk to aarav about all "that"???
Kiran sighed before she answered,"Yes,geet..I talked to him and I guess, you want to talk about my "mother in law" right now???"
"Yes di..I want to talk about "her".."Kiran could feel the irritation and slight anger hidden behind geet's words.."I can understand her "behaviour" with you,but what about her "apathy" for aaravi??? Why does she behave like this with her??Why she was trying to garner hatred in aarav's mind???
"Because of her "anger",geet..!!! I agree, She supported aarav's insecurities but I am sure,She did not have any idea that aarav could take such big step under his misconceptions.."
"What anger di???" Geet exclaimed gritting her teeth,,"How can a 8 months old baby make her angry???"
"No,a baby can't make her angry but her mother can..."
"What do you mean,di???"
"Raj is her only son,geet..She lost her husband when Raj was seventeen and She had seen her son facing the "Adversities" all alone..Somewhere,She thinks,if Raj had a brother, facing life would have been much easier for him with his support but sadly he don't have one, however Raj has found one in "Maan"." Kiran ended with a smile on her lips.
"But maya aunty does not think same, right di???"
"Right geet.." Kiran consented in a defeated voice.."That was why she wanted a "biological brother" for aarav, when i was expecting second time'
"and she was disheartened when you were blessed with baby girl instead of boy.." Geet stated.
"Not then geet.."Kiran closed her eyes as she spoke further,"She was disheartened badly when she came to know that I have undergone "tubectomy" right after the delivery..I and Raj had decided it long ago geet..We always want two kids and with aaravi's arrival our family was complete..However,none of us was aware of Maa's expectations..Unintentionally our decision did hurt her most.."
"But It was neither your fault nor aaravi's fault di.."
"I know that geet..But If i was aware of maa's wish of having one more grandson,i would surely have changed my decision..I came to know about this only after the surgery.." Kiran spoke in a voice full of regret.
"I know she was hurt and disappointed di, but that does not give her any right to behave indifferently with her granddaughter...Why don't you talk to her and make her understand??? A sister can support her brother too.."
"Its not that easy geet.."
"But You should try once. She would understand for sure.."
"I tried geet but I ended up making her more frustrated and mad at me..She does not like me very much already, moreover She had crossed her sixties..Its impossible to change her ideologies now..Aarav is only five and It take a huge effort from our side to make him change his mind..You can't expect her to change at this stage of her life..How can she abandon her 'ideologies" now after living her whole life with "them"???"
"But she is wrong with her ideologies di.." Geet retorted.
"and she is "right" in her perspective. Her perspective is very "rigid" to mould now,geet..If it was that easy to change one's perspective at this age then term "Generation gap" has ceased to exist long ago.." Kiran exclaimed looking in to geet's eyes who was clearly not convinced with her.
She smiled as she took geet's hand in hers before speaking further.."You also might experience this "generation gap" with your "mother in law" in future,geet..I know my mother would never interfere in your personal decisions but you might find her views different from you regarding mundane things..It might possible,She won't let you feed her grandchildren readymade baby food from the market..Don't loose your patience at that time..Rather than changing her choice, try to accept her choice if it does not bother you much. After a certain age,our elders want us to accept them the way they are,geet.."
" I am understanding what you are trying to say di."Geet said with a smile too.
"Enough preaching for today geet..lets sleep now.." said Kiran, getting up from the bed."Good night and sleep tight dear"..
"You too di.."Geet answered as she saw Kiran leaving the room..She was convinced with Kiran's words but still she felt the need to do something in this matter, however, she had no idea what she should do actually.
****************************
A silent home welcomed "Maan" as he returned form his two days long Agra trip. Di and Kids were gone but he knew he was most troubled with geet's absence."Peace" which was his best companion once, had turned in to "eerie silence" for him now. He threw the bag on the bed in irritation which was on its way to become immense anger as he dialed geet's number for umpteenth time since last twenty four hours. His fingers clenched in to tight fist hearing the same message of "not reachable"..
"Whats wrong with her cell phone???" He wondered abandoning his cell phone on the bed.
"Maan.." He heard his mother calling him as she knocked the door.
"Come in maa.."He answered while trying hard to bring some "calmness" in his voice.
"Your coffee beta.." Mamta said entering inside with tray in her hands.
"Thank you maa.." Maan exclaimed taking the steaming mug of coffee from the tray.He needed it badly at that moment.
Mamta stayed in the room for next fifteen mintues as she indulged herself in little chit chat with her son. They talked about his trip however Maan's fingers remained busy with cell phone all while.
"You are trying to call someone maan???" Mamta asked with furrowed eyebrows.
"Yes maa..I am trying to call geet but her number is unreachable.." He informed.
"and It would be "unreachable" for next fifteen days.." Mamta exclaimed with a teasing smile. She was quite amused with her son's eagerness to talk to his wife, however she was oblivious to the slight "tension" between them.
"What do you mean maa???"
"She has gone to "Gangotri" with her parents, maan..Its impossible to find "cell phone network" at such high altitude.." Mamta explained.
"What???" Maan was astonished.
"Yes beta..Geet and her parents have gone to Gangotri..She did not inform you???"
"No maa..She did not.."Maan said in an angry tone.."When did she tell you???" He asked further.
"She had called me yesterday to inform..I am sure she had called you too.."
It was then,Maan was reminded of "sixteen" missed calls from Geet..He was in meeting at that time, that why he could not answer them.Even he was quite late to call back too as he was busy in sorting out "land problem".
"She did maa but I could not take her call.."Maan exclaimed in a regretting voice.
"Don't worry beta..She is safe and fine. She had said that she would keep on calling us from "Telephone booths"..." Mamta said in an attempt to calm her anxious son before leaving the room, however She did not know that only geet's presence could calm her son's anxieties now..
Maan gritted his teeth as he realized why Geet had said that she would talk to him if "cell phone network" allowed, when he was leaving for Agra. Geet had chosen a "really big punishment" for him..
