Before becoming an actor, Saqib Saleem was a chef

New Delhi: Saqib Saleem, who is making his acting debut with 'Mere Dad Ki Maruti', used to work as a chef in his dad's restaurant in Delhi.

'Mere Dad Ki Maruti' is made by Y-Films, an arm of Yash Raj Films.

"Saqib was a chef at Saleem's, before he entered the industry. But he was keen to try his hand at acting," said Saqib's spokesperson.

His father is a restaurateur and runs a chain in Delhi. During his college days, Saqib briefly assisted his dad in running the restaurants. Later, he got interested in modelling and started getting offers from ad agencies and eventually shifted to Mumbai.

'Mere Dad Ki Maruti' is set to hit the screens March 15, after which he will be seen in Karan Johar's 'Bombay Talkies'.

And now he is KJo's latest protege.

Filmmaker Karan Johar was so impressed with Saqib Saleem's work that he has not only singed him for his banner but also mentored him in how to face media.

Saqib will soon be seen in " Mere Dad Ki Maruti" (MDKM), a forthcoming venture of Y-Films, an arm of Yash Raj Films (YRF).

"Saqib is part of not one but two big banners - YRF and Dharma Productions. Thus Karan has been showing keen interest in mentoring him for the promotions of MDKM," said a source.

Karan, who has signed the actor for "Bombay Talkies", gave him tips on how he should not be conscious while giving interviews to the media and how he should present himself in public, added the source.

MKDM will hit theatres March 15.
