I agree with you. It is extremely rare to see a mother-in-law truly treat her DIL as a daughter. Honestly I'm not sure if that is even possible...because the DIL is the new member of family, it is easiest to lay all the blame on her (coz MILs always think of DIL's as an outsider).
I think BV is trying to show that the saas-bahu relationship takes time to develop and are using Ira as a vehicle to show all the insecurities of a mother-in-law. For example, the whole "is my son becoming more close to the singh's than our own family" etc etc.I'm ok with showing the insecurities but I would like BV to handle it maturely. The show is all about bringing a change in our society so why not show Ira having trust in her new DIL.And more than that, how about showing her confidence in her son. They could have shown her inner struggle to want to interfere in Shiv and Anandi's personal life but show her stopping herself by saying that she has a smart, educated, mature son (an IAS officer no less) and he is more than capable of handling his married life. One the major issues that BV could've brought to light using this scenario is how many parents don't treat their children as adults or trust them to make their own decisions even when the kids are almost 30 and have successfully built a life for themselves.
