Aishwariya Rai turns 34 today leaving glorious moments behind that have made the nation proud and moving ahead to create history. Here's wishing her a very happy birthday! A fine blend of striking beauty and intelligence, Aishwariya Rai is a representative of the 21st century woman. Born to humble parents Krishnaraj Rai, a marine engineer, and Vrinda Rai, a writer in Mangalore, Karnataka, the family later shifted base to Mumbai. Rai did her schooling at Arya Vidya Mandir and was soon on the track to become an architect when... Fate had other plans for this damsel. Her first stint in the glamour world was when she decided to model on a part time basis along side her architecture. She went on to be part of ad campaigns like Pepsi, Palmolive, Garden Varelli etc. She got her first big break when she won the Miss India World in 1994 and her her life took a leap for the better. Later the same year Aishwarya Rai bagged the Miss World crown captivating the whole world and putting India on the global map for beauty with brains. Acting offers kept pouring in from big banner directors in the industry. The question of her acting with the same elan and brilliance remained a debate, until her first debut in a Tamil movie Iruvar along side South Indian star Mohan lal and Tabu. Internationally, this was the platform from where she had no more looking back. Rai was a member of the jury at Cannes and offers from Hollywood started trickling in. In 2004 the TIME Magazine's Asian Edition chose her "as one of Asia's 100 most influential people." She was chosen as the guest of honour on the 60 minutes profile 'The most beautiful face in the world.' A month later she appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman, and was also featured on Oprah's "Women Across the Globe" segment. Due to her talent and world wide fame Rai's career graph inclined towards the international sphere when she starred in Bride And Prejudice directed by Gurinder Chadha in an adaptation of Jane Austen's novel Pride and Prejudice. The other overseas ventures in which she acted were Mistress of Spices written by Gurinder Chadha and directed by Paula Ayeda Berges. She has had many credits to her name for her outstanding performance from Best Female debutant award in the movie Aur Pyar Ho Gaya, Best supporting actress in Mohobbatien, two Film fare Best Actress Awards, one for her Hum Dil De Chukhe Sanam and the other for Devdas. She has also won three IIFA awards, three Z-Gold Awards, four STAR Screen Awards, an EU's Global Diversity Award, three Zee Cine Awards and a Rajiv Gandhi Award. Her performance in Provoked and The Last Legion is eagerly awaited for in India. At 34, she has the best happening for her.
