Male models rule TV TRPs

Henna Rakheja, Feb 15, 2013, DHNS:

WELL?FITTED

The tantrums of Rishab Kundra, the charm of Shiv and Suraj and the grandeur of Mahadev is flooring their female fans across age. These characters have not just huge fan following but are also earning highest TRP's for their shows at present.
Be it Mahadev, Diya aur Baati Hum, Balika Vadhu or Madhubala, all are topping the charts. Acting and story of these shows of course matters but what is common among all are the chiselled bodies and rippling abs of their male
protagonists!

It could be just by chance that all these actors have had their share of modelling and won different talents at various man model hunt competitions. But the production houses seem to be encashing on this ready opportunity to attract audiences, as mail models no longer look down upon television as a
weak medium.

For Siddhart Shukla, who plays Shiv in Balika Vadhu, television provided him a better scope for acting after he was placed as runner-up in Gladrags Manhunt, and offered various commercials. "TV?is the best crash course for acting which is hardly any in adversitements. I?am not from an affluent family and after I?lost my father, I ventured into modelling. I?had been modelling from 2003 to 2008."?

Seen more on tv than on ramp now, his hectic schedule makes him work for about twelve hours a day, still he ensures time for his gymming.

"I?get up at 5.30am and make sure that I work out for one and half hour before I?go for shooting," confesses the hunk who has become a heart-throb of young females.
Even his comtemporary, Vivian Dsena (who plays the character of Rishab Kunda in Madhubala) started his career as Gladrags Manhunt Contest contestant, winning a position in the top 10. And for those of you wondering how Anas Rashid fall in this category, Anas explains, "Winning the title of Mr Punjab was not a big deal as the criteria of selection were not as difficult as it is in other national or international pageants. But it was surely an energy pill for me as people noticed me walking on the ramp rather on the road. It was through the title that I?got few music videos and then television followed. Till date I don't hit the gym but my short stint with modelling has made me conscious with what I?eat."

It is this consciousness to lead a healthy lifestyle that is followed by Mohit Raina (who plays Mahadev) too. The show's producer Nikhil Sinha shares, "Mohit was selected after a lot of auditions. The kind of image that we wanted for the character was very clear in my mind. Mohit has a pleasant face but a good built and somehow I?felt that he will look good after the
get up."

No wonder Mohit's built impressed the selectors since he was placed among the top five contestants in modeling competition, Grasim Mr. India, in 2006. Nikhil adds, "A lot of models aspire to get into
acting after winning pageants and television is one medium that gives due merit to the actors. But you cannot deny that every good looking model doesn't make a good actor!"

Point noted but the strategy seems to be working for production houses as the sight of these actors leve female audiences gasping for more.
