Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt has dismissed allegations in a Rs 30 crore fraud case filed by Dr Ajay Murdia, founder of Indira IVF, calling the complaint “completely misleading.” The FIR was lodged at Bhupalpura police station, naming Bhatt, his wife Shwetambari Bhatt, and seven others.

According to the FIR, the dispute arises from a film project pitched to Dr Murdia as a biopic inspired by his late wife’s life. The complaint alleges that Bhatt and his team promised profits of nearly Rs 200 crore and encouraged heavy investment. It claims that over ?30 crore was allegedly misused under the pretext of developing the film.

Along with Bhatt and his wife, the FIR names Mehboob and Dinesh Kataria. Dr Murdia alleges that after transferring funds, no substantial progress was made, and repeated attempts to seek clarity were ignored, prompting him to approach the Rajasthan police.

Speaking to NDTV, Bhatt said he learned about the FIR only on Monday and expressed shock. He denied wrongdoing and questioned the complaint’s validity. “Yes, I found out today that Ajay Murdia has filed an FIR not just against me but against eight of us,” he said. “I have read the FIR and in my view it is misleading. The police have been completely misguided because the things written in the FIR are absolutely wrong.”

Bhatt suggested that forged documents may have influenced the complaint. “It’s obvious that he must have created some fabricated, forged documents. I don’t know what exactly, but there must be something he used to convince the police,” he alleged.

He further claimed that the dispute also involves another project, Virat, which Dr Murdia allegedly halted midway, withholding payments to crew members. “He stopped the film Virat midway. And the payment that needs to be made to workers, about ?250 crore, has still not been paid,” Bhatt said.

The filmmaker added he is ready to cooperate fully. “If the police need proof, come to me. I will show everything. After that, they will know who is right and who is wrong.” The case also refers to Tumko Meri Kasam, a film written and directed by Bhatt based on Dr Murdia’s life, starring Anupam Kher, Adah Sharma, and Esha Deol. The project has reportedly been in development for several years.
