Anupam Kher reveals how a sudden flight scare altered his tone with cricketer Ajinkya Rahane

Actor and filmmaker Anupam Kher shared a light moment with cricketer Ajinkya Rahane on a Delhi to Mumbai flight, a meeting he described as warm and memorable. The actor posted a video from the cabin, where the two were seated next to each other, and spoke about why he ended up apologising to Rahane.

The video opens with Kher smiling at the camera while Rahane sits beside him. Kher tells him that travelling together was a genuine delight and that he has always admired the cricketer both for his game and for his nature. He then admits that he lost his calm briefly when the plane appeared to land but suddenly lifted off again.

Anupam Kher says in the clip, “So, it was wonderful travelling with you, my friend. You are a wonderful person and we had a great experience. The plane touched down and took off again. You are very brave unlike me. But lovely, you are a great, great player and a wonderful human being.” He adds that the brief scare is something he will remember for a long time.

In his caption, Kher wrote a longer note addressed to Rahane. He said he had always admired Rahane’s cricketing achievements but was even more impressed by his humility in person. He then jokingly apologised for the shift in his tone during the sudden takeoff, saying his language had remained perfectly decent until that moment. According to him, the unexpected jolt pushed out a few strong Hindi words that he did not intend to use in front of the cricketer.

Kher added that the moment ensured the two will remember each other for more than one reason. He signed off with his good wishes for Rahane and his family.

Rahane, regarded as one of India’s most reliable Test players, has scored over 5,000 runs in the format with 12 centuries. He is often praised for his calm approach and for leading India’s historic Test win in Australia in 2020–21.
