Why did SP have an affair with Radha?
The primary reason SP had an affair with Radha was opportunity and her naivete. There may or may not have been problems in his married life with G3 - in any even he definitely had the opportunity.
Opportunity to travel to Radha's University - after all he was its trustee or one of the trustees. He had the reason to travel and visit her university. She was a student - that too one deserving financial aid - so his motive in meeting her on his visits was valid. She could not refuse to meet him when he requested - in fact she was in no position to disobey any of his biddings. She was a puppet and he played on her heartstrings. He never had to disclose anything about himself to her - that he was married and had a son.
Radha was a naive, pretty looking, hard working college student from one of the poorest families on the planet. Her family in fact was often shunned by the "so called" bigwigs because they were SC/ST.
She was so naive that she believed that SP frequently met with her because she was a receipient of his patronage. He was educated, charming, good looking and always left her in awe with his knowledge on the subject of her major. They discussed at depth issues that she was researching for a project and she was impressed with his keen insight. She thought he looked beyond distinctions of caste and race because his patronizing visits were now transformed to those of a friend and soon to that of a lover. She was so naive that she was flattered with all of his attention, adulation and romantic gestures, looks and love filled promises. As if in a trance she broke all boundaries of proprietary and let him make love to her.
Soon after she was devastated when she came to know that he had a wife and child. She did what any honorable woman would do - moved away from him. Alas! She could not free herself from him because she was pregnant with his child. And so she went back to him for the sake of her baby. It was then that she was awakened from her naivete - for she heard him mention the true purpose for meeting with her. She was just a woman he wanted for his pleasure - he wanted nothing to do with the child he had fathered and in his usual dictatorial style handed a bundle of rupee notes asked her to abort the child.
Thirty years laters when SP met with Radha and Akash - he refused to acknowledge Radha and accept Akash as his son.
Why did SP refuse to accept Akash and acknowledge his affair with Radha?
Some say (including me) it is his pride and his image as an honest and upright father who always does right by his wife and children. Someone who is reliable and can be trusted.
However after watching today's episode I confess I totally missed the mark and failed to mention the PRIMARY reason for SP refusing to accept Akash (as son) and acknowledge his affair with Radha.
Let me correct my self - he met Akash with cold indifference and Radha with an unrepentant and, wavering and downwardly directed gaze - why? Because SURAJ PRATAP SCINDHIYA IS A COWARD.
In SM Suraj Pratap is a bully and an autocrat - but neither of these traits of his had prevented Radha from disobeying him or punching him in the face. She did not abort SP's child and further had the courage to raise the child alone for 30 years and now, bring him (Akash) to SM and claim his legitimate status.
A courageous, upright, honest and loving father would have accepted his mistake and long kept secret squarely, faced the blame and humiliation and lovingly opened his arms to his illegitimate son and sought forgiveness from his mother (Radha). However Suraj Pratap is a COWARD with a PREHISTORIC ATTITUDE TOWARDS WOMEN - he could not look them in the eye and met them with callous and cold indifference. He just did not want to do anything with them. It was as if they did not exist - not now, not ever.
SP burnt the original DNA report because he did not have the COURAGE to go through the humiliation that he was going to dish out to Radha, Akash and his MLA FIL.
Will he ever reconcile and accept Akash? Will he be repentent and ask G3 and Radha for forgiveness? The answer to these questions depends on how the CVs decide to move this story forward.
