You are at a party. The mood is set and the lights are right. You head to the bar and fix yourself a drink, suddenly your gaze falls upon an interesting face and you are instantly attracted. The person doesn't necessarily have to be a stunner but the chemistry is palpable and you find yourself drawn to the lady. So far so good but what do you do next? If you are a confident man of the world, walking across to the woman and introducing yourself would be the most obvious thing to do. TV actor Eijaz Khan, the self confessed party animal ,admits that taking that first step forward is a matter of personal choice. "If I find someone really attractive, I would want to walk over to her and say a 'hi' in the most gentlemanly fashion without invading her privacy. I think women are appreciative of well-bred men. But since I'm constantly under the spotlight, I need to keep a discreet watch over my actions. So I'm very careful about whom I choose to befriend and how," says Eijaz. While that may well be the hazards of being a celebrity, there are several men who are diffident by nature and can't seem to make that all important move, chemistry notwithstanding. TV actor Ashish Nayyar is one such personality who despite being a public figure prefers to adopt a 'wait and watch' stance. Says he, "I haven't made any effort at striking up a conversation with a woman that I'm attracted to. If I believe that the lady is equally drawn to me, only then will I introduce myself to her. Once the introductions are over, I simply let chemistry do all the talking." Has he ever regretted not making the first move? "Yeah there are some regrets but you live and you learn," he adds with a laugh. He is not alone in feeling this way. Says Noel, 28, who is a copywriter with an ad firm in Mumbai, "There are so many times that I have found myself catching the eye of the girl looking my way. But each time I let my 'senses' take control of me. But then later, I always I wonder if I should have let go of that chance." But for every shy male like Noel, there are the bold brave- hearts like TV actor Pawan Shankar, who believes in the magic of instant chemistry. And the ultimate sign of attraction according to him is when the lady willingly shares her mobile number. "I have trusted my instincts in these situations and know when my charm will work on a woman," says he. So take a tip from the smart alecs and make your move. |
