Next few days went uneventful. Her periods had ended though she felt weakness n dizziness. Yet, to keep herself busy she took charge of preparing all the meals, she always cleaned her room herself, did petty work here n there, supervised the servant, anything n everything she could find to fill her time table, she did.
Jia also kept her busy n since Maan didn't reprimand her again she stopped avoiding her. Honestly speaking the little moments she spent with Jia were the best part of her long days. Her favorite was coloring. She made things-house, scenery, weird shapes which were meant to be animal n Jia filled colors in them, unknowingly coloring little bits of her life also.
In between all this, Maan kept a vigilant eye on her n she knew that. She had to take all her meals because Nakul was ordered to spy on her. And, to her extreme dismay he slept with her, daily. Surely it had started with the days of her periods but he slept on her small bed after that also though she never found him with her in morning when she woke up.
But they remained distant on the small bed n she stopped fighting him because she desired that small distance dearly. Every day, she tried to finish making dinner fast so when he came to her room she was asleep. It only accomplished when he got late from office which was quite frequent but whenever he was there when she got into bed, he asked to not to take even that single pill he allowed her to consume n she refused him every time. With him lying beside her, his body heat caressing her she needed the pill more than ever.
One of the nights, he asked, who was that person? Out of the blues n somehow she understood who he was talking about. Startled, scared n confused that he knew about her past she had knocked down the lamp placed on the side table.
She had started trembling just by a simple question n her eyes had gone red like the night when she had that nightmare. The confusion n fear on her face tugged at his heart tightening it with immense pain. If just a mere question could do this to her what would recalling the whole thing do. He understood that he wouldn't get any answers from her n while he was desperate for them yet not on the cost of making her go through that unknown misery all over again. So never again he raised the issue.
Geet where is your mobile? Dadimaa asked taking seat for breakfast. Maan n Rohan already present there.
Ah… I don't know. I kept it somewhere. She said trying to remember.
When n where did you see it last? Dadimaa asked.
Geet looked hesitant. I don't remember.
Dadimaa sighed. Rajendra was trying to call you but your phone was switched off. Well he wanted to inform that your friend, Meera, is coming back today.
Maan waited for a scream or squeak but nothing came. Oh okay. Just that he couldn't believe his ears. Meera was coming back after so many days n this was Geet's reaction. In college or school she would have made everyone go insane by screaming n shouting about her best friend's arrival then again she wouldn't have let her go away in the first place. This wasn't the Geet he knew or thought to know.
After breakfast he asked the servants to search for Geet's phone's n hand it to him if and when found. One of the servants found it in the kitchen lying in a corner below the cabinets n gave it to Maan.
It didn't had battery n Maan wondered since how long it had been lost n didn't Geet need it. Well if she needed it then it wouldn't be lying in the kitchen, lost n unnoticed. She had turned into a total recluse n he wanted to know the reason, the story of the past 6 years.
He charged the cheap looking mobile n started checking it. The inbox was empty n when he scrolled through the contacts there were only a few, namely-Rajendra uncle, Meera, Neeraj, Hospital, some Neha, Karan-he questioned if he was the same Karan from their college n then Shanaya-apparently the one Neeraj had been talking about. Just this much no family nothing, even the gallery was empty, no pictures, songs. The phone was empty just like her n if something was abundant, it were the missed calls in her call log.
He kept the mobile in his pocket deciding to return it later to Geet n left for office.
Meera darling at least we could have unpacked first na. A tired Karan said nuzzling his girlfriend's neck. Geet is not running anywhere.
She got married, is it any better than running? I don't know how she doing and papa wouldn't tell me his f**king name. Meera didn't know why but she had this feeling that something was utterly wrong; maybe it was the fact that Rajendra wasn't ready to tell her anything. Every time she asked about the guy or he so hurriedly got Geet married without even informing her-which she was furious about-he talked in circles, ending on revealing nothing n saying 'you meet him yourself when you are back'.
Well, she was back. She will meet the guy n if her assumptions were proved right she would bring Geet back, in no way she would let her friend live somewhere she wasn't happy. Geet wasn't ready to marry then why n how so suddenly she agreed. Meera just prayed that Geet was fine until she reached there.
Meera you worry too much. Karan said.
Yeah because we are talking about Geet, you know how she is. Meera stated. Being the prefessional she was she couldn't have come earlier but she wrapped up all the work in Japan asap n came back. Now if you let me drive we wouldn't die. A gentle slap met Karan's cheek n he straightened on his seat making a face.
I can't wait to meet Geet. Karan said looking out of the window. I wish by some miracle she would have gone back to her old self.
Hmm… She doubted that.
Did you see that? She asked when they entered through the main gates of KM after telling the guards who they were.
What?
The name plate. Khurana Mansion. Doesn't it ring a bell? Then she remembered the unforgettable name. Maan Singh Khurana.
Geet was coming out of the kitchen when she saw Meera standing in the living surveying the surrounding. Karan saw Geet n picked her into his arms swirling her around. Stop it Karan. I will fall. She said beating at his shoulders with her small fists, scared.
He put her down, hugging her tightly. I don't do gyming day n night to make you fall.
Geet smiled, it was good to have her friends back but right now she was scared. There were matters Meera would surely probe her about n she didn't how in the world she would answer them.
Geet turned to her best friend n automatically tears came to her eyes. Meera was her life n she loved her to no limits but realized long back that she had always been a burden on her. She was indebted to Meera to no limits. Thus, she restrained herself not pursuing her idiotic behavior n stopped bugging her too, not wanting to push away the last person that she loved dearly. Everyone else left only Meera was there n so she was very careful. She did not want to lose her. She spoke after to her after thinking 10 times n watched over her actions also.
How are you? Geet asked her voice shaky. Thik se khana khaya na? Zayada kaam toh nai kiya?
Meera hugged her, she hardly cried but with Geet her eyes always became teary. I am good, missed you so much. How are you?
Geet pulled back n wiped her eyes n nose. I am also good. She obviously didn't look so. Two weeks back she would have looked worse. Geet was thankful Meera didn't come then. And I missed you too.
Meera furrowed her brows. Is that so? Then why you didn't pick up my calls.
Wo… wo sab chodo na. Geet plastered a fake smile n made them both sit on the sofa. I will bring you something to eat. You both must be hungry.
Nai Geet- Before she could complete Geet had already rushed towards the kitchen.
Karan kept his hand over Meera's, who was looking in the direction where Geet had gone, longingly n worriedly. He knew she would never be able to speak but Geet was someone she loved more than anything, perhaps more than him also and he had no problem with that. He was happy with the place he had in Meera's rock hard heart n Geet; she was a sweet heart. They were college freinds n he loved her too like Meera.
I want my old Geet back. She said looking into his eyes.
Me too. That was all he could say.
PRECAP- Meera's interrogation🤢
