Twin Miracles or twin horrors!
At doctor's clinic
"Twins?! There must be some mistake doctor, please check the monitor again," Shiv exclaimed out loud.
Anandi was amused at seeing Shiv's expressions and chuckled to herself.
"Mr. Shivraj Shekhar are you questioning my credibility? Please see for yourself...there... you can see a faint outline of the two babies. I am 100% confident it is twins!" the doctor replied, thoroughly exasperated as how to put her point across.
Out of the blue, Anandi pinched Shiv hard!
"Ouch! What did you do that for?" Shiv screamed.
"Shiv, don't question the doctor, and if it is twins also how nice it will be. Why are you creating a fuss?" Anandi said, slightly irritated at her husband now.
"I am not creating a fuss, but twins how will we manage!" Shiv was totally worried now, thinking about how they are going to manage two babies and how Anandi will be able to take the strain and pain. He "Anandi... she is in her own lala land...look at her, she is so happy at the whole thing! What is wrong with her?!" He thought to himself.
"Uff Shiv, my dear hubby! Stop worrying will ya...or else you'll get old before your time!" Anandi quipped and laughed at her own joke.
"Madam and her mood swings, one minute she's irritated and in the other she is cracking jokes! Anyway there is no use, let me enjoy the moment as she is doing," he thought to himself once again.
...
But no-one imagined that it would be the double everything, including double dhamaka(blast). Shiv was like in total panic mode, "What now I have to buy two of everything?! Oh what should I buy! God how does Anandi manage to stay serene in midst of all this?!"
After 9 months
Shiv was not able to see his wife in so much pain. "Oh God! Please end this pain soon. I can't see my wife like this!" He sent up a fervent prayer and ended up holding Anandi's hand very tightly.
Anandi had to pinch him and when that did not work, hit him with free hand.
"Ouch! Why did you hit me?"
"Leave my hand Shiv, you are holding it tightly, and you are behaving as if you are going into labor instead of me! Take a deep breath and relax! Chill! You are making me nervous now!"
"Oh sorry Anandi, did not realize that, let us take a deep breath together."
Finally the wait came to an end, and two beautiful girls entered the world, announcing their entry with the sweet cries.
But wait what is this, they are absolutely identical!!! "Who is who? How will we differentiate them?" Poor Shiv, he got so flummoxed that he did not know whom to turn to. "What if my family comes to know that I can't distinguish between them?! I will be a laughing stock" He thought to himself. He then looked to Anandi for help, and saw that Anandi was in same state...state of shock! š²
Later Anandi confessed to him when they were alone that she is afraid how she will distinguish between her two babies. Shiv was relieved and he confessed that he is also confused'!
Comedies of Errors
The initial few days became a comedy of errors for Anandi and Shiv. Anandi, who could still not distinguish between their two angels, would end up feeding the same child twice and the other one would keep crying, making her all the more confused!
She would then check up the baby's nappy, and realize that it is not wet and realize that the baby she fed just now, was actually wet. And she fed the wrong baby again!
She then tied one blue ribbon on one baby, to distinguish the two, but that blue ribbon would come off as soon as the baby kicked, and both of them will be back to square one!
This went on for few days, and Anandi got fed up and started scolding Shiv, that why is he not doing something. Shiv was like a lost lamb not able to understand what to do next! How to solve this dilemma, as he also ended up more often than not, kissing and loving one baby repeatedly leaving the other baby girl alone.
Thankfully while bathing, they bathed the babies together, where Anandi and Shiv would take up one baby each and also for rocking them to make them sleep!
Days and nights were total chaos! Anandi and Shiv were like one poor lost souls looking for light or solution for their grave dilemma!
Light to the dilemma
The light came in the form of Shiv's close college friend who had twins as well and they gave the advice to the lost parents. They told him how they started putting different color dresses to distinguish the babies, and used to make a note of when they fed each one of them in a diary. They maintained a diary of the times they fed each baby as this would avoid confusion.
Later they started noticing that though the babies are identical, they each have distinct nature and personality, which enabled them to distinguish.
Shiv and Anandi both felt relieved and they donned their detective hats and started looking for the differences between their twin girls.
Eureka! They found it finally after the hard struggle of keeping watch on them. One of the girls was soft and subtle in her demands just like her Momma dearest and other was persistent and demanding like her Papa dearest! They heaved a huge sigh of relief!
The new parents named the girls according to their dictinct personalities. The softer one was named Avika after her mom and the demanding one was named Shivani after her dad. Avika and Shivani...two princesses for Shiv and the apple of the eyes for both Anandi and Shiv.
But the story does not end here š as they were the naughtiest kids one could get and knew how to make their parents run around them even when they grew up...!
