Chapter # 1
"I'll take care dad, don't worry about me, yes I've reached the place, but the lady isn't opening the door, yes dad, no dad, I'll take care, now stop bothering me, bye"
She hung up the call and repeatedly knocked the door, till it was opened.
The lady opened the door as her mane of grey hair swished sideways, she was leaning on the door and that made her stumbled into the room. And that's when she saw him, sitting on the chair slouching slightly on it. She watched as his head lifted up and as he carelessly swept his hair over his forehead revealing his sensuous brown eyes.
She was hyperventilating on seeing him after eight years, her schoolmate, her first prom date and the person with whom she had her first kiss. His hair shone and his hypnotic smile made her melt like a fire.
"Speak up pumpkin, whom do you want?" she jerked up from her trance and now saw the old lady with her hands on her hips passing a stern look.
"Ermm, sorry Mrs.Flinch I'm Sharon your paying guest; I had called you weeks back"
"Oh yeah please call me Bertha sweetie but you are late I already have a paying guest, so you have search for another one" with this she slammed the door on her face leaving her confused and at the same time angry.
She was about to knock the door but it was opened quickly, by him. And there they stood looking at each other longingly; memories still fresh in their minds.
Gosh she is still the same. Her curls that would bounce every now and then, her skin that shone like shimmer, her eyes framed by long lashes, rosy lips and smile that could make any man weak in his knees. He was staring at her with his eyes glued on her, but he was pulled back by that old aunt again.
"Lover boy, she is one who was going to stay here, and if I remember what you said moments back, you were going to kick her away the moment she comes here, so now why the lovesick pup looks?"
"Oh Bertha, I do remember saying that, but I didn't know Sharon was the girl whom you were talking about, I know her and we both will manage, so can I talk to her for a moment?" with this he winked at the old woman
"He just the same , flirty and cheesy" Sharon thought to herself, she was still gawking at him stupidly not leaving her eyes from his face even for moment. She was pulled to a corner of the room by his firm grip on his wrist, his hands still refusing to leave her hands, and she didn't complain a bit.
"Hey" they both mouthed the word stretching it as long as they could, but simultaneously, which was then followed by bouts of laughter.
They were staring into each other eyes for quite a long time absorbing the warmth that it reflected. Sharon was the first to speak
"You are staying here? Or did you book this place?"
"Book? No I didn't book it either, but my few sweet words were enough to convince the old granny, she is a sweetheart you know, she immediately agreed to have me as a paying guest. So this place is mine"
On hearing him say this, the original Sharon was back "Oh I see, so you are the still the same, and why not, what should I expect from a guy like you, but not this time I was the first one to book this place so this place is mine, so get you baggage and move"
"Don't force me to kick you out of here Sharie, you know I can do that, but I'm giving you a chance to leave this place on your own, because Bertha is on my side"
"Don't call me by that name, I just hate it when you ruin my name and I'm not budging from here"
"Then I'm forced to do this" with this he scooped her up in his arms and carried her to the doorstep and put her down
"I'm still not being my true self Sharie , so I'm a bit soft with you ,after all you the first one with whom I had my first kiss in high school and mind you it was superb" he said with smirk eying her lips with naughty glint in his eyes.
Sharon's eyes popped out on hearing him and a slight blush covered her cheeks on recalling their kiss, but she hide it from him and faked an angry look. He was leaning towards her, eyes glued to her lips but he was pulled back by Bertha.
"Get a room kids, you both can stay here, it is impossible for both of you to find a place with such low rent rates. So I suggest you share the room upstairs"
After hearing this, one person was jumping with excitement whereas the other was horrified
"Share a room? With this idiot? No ways, I'd prefer to stay on streets than living with this moron"
"Woah woah take it easy Sharie, don't forget it's me who arrived here first, so practically you have no choice but to share 'single' room with me" Swayam said stressing on the word single
Sharon thought for a couple of moments, she knew it was difficult to find such place with good neighborhood, a caring old landlady and a place close to her workplace, thing about this she thought of saying yes, but she looked at Swayam and that arouse doubts in her.
Although they were not seeing each other in high school, they had went out only for a prom date where they had kissed each other, but things were left hanging post that event, they both ignored each other in the rest of their school life thinking that the other person would confess. She waited for him to ask her out and he in turn waited for him. Their big ego didn't allow them to take the first step.
They both had a predefined notion about each other, with Swayam thinking that Sharon was a snob and haughty and Sharon thinking Swayam was inborn flirt and jerk. With these loose strings they both kept away from each other but their fluttery hearts told a different story.
He was praying to God that she would agree to stay with him, he didn't know why he was behaving like a desperate lovesick pup, waiting to get her attention.
"Ok Bertha I'll stay ,but can you please show me my room"
"Our room Sharie"
An unusual heat flushed up to her cheeks when Swayam said that and they both looked at each other intently.
Bertha saw them in this state and pulled them upstairs by their ears and yelled at them "I don't have the entire night to entertain you, this your room. You better behave, no more shouting and if I heard even a single noise, I'll kick both of you out of my house, is that clear?"
Both of them nodded with scared looks on their faces and closed the door of their room.
The room was a bit small, with little furniture but was airy enough. Few paintings here and there and a small terrace adjoined to it, there was a coziness even in that small room.
Both of them were checking out that place striding to and fro and both stopped abruptly at the bed, on seeing that they eyes popped out of their sockets, Sharon was sweating profusely whereas Swayam was looking here and there.
The reason for their shocked state was- there was only one small bed in that room which could not even fit two people!
