Intelligent move by sameer to make Arjun to offer lift to priya but it does not seem that the wall of ice gonna melt sooner between them.

Hi everyone, first I want to say thank you to everyone for liking and commenting on this FF. I have thanked most of you personally, thost who I haven't I will come back.

Part 11

Five years ago, Maharashtra Police Academy, Nasik

Two days after Swati's visit to the academy Priya was just warming up for her morning jog when she felt a shadow upon her. She closed her eyes to think of ways to kill her best friend for putting her in this predicament. For one whole month she had tried her best to avoid the man standing next to her with his arms across his chest, seemingly serious expression on his so handsome face, but in one day her best friend had managed to wipe out every wall she had built between herself and Arjun Raute.

Arjun on the other hand was still trying to figure out why it was so important for him to know the woman in front of him who avoided him at every turn and rejected all his offer of help. The more she avoided him the more he wanted to make her notice him, Why? He didn't know why but he wanted to take the time to get to know her and find out why for the first time a woman has managed to catch his attention to a point where he is constantly thinking about her.

Priya had no choice but to acknowledge his presence. She stood up slowly then looked at him with a raised eyebrow, "Lost?"

His lips turned up in a smile that went straight to Priya's heart so she pretended to check her shoelaces to avoid looking straight at him.

"You know you are bad for my ego Miss Banerjee." He said teasingly.

Priya immediately stood up and placed her hands on her hips then looked up at him, "It's obviously much bigger than I thought since I seem to haven't even put a dent in it." She muttered which only made him grin wider. She knew nothing she said would dither him nor would it affect his non-existent ego. He really was as he presented himself but Priya's own introvert nature was making her keep her distance.

He uncrossed his arms, placed one hand on his hip and moved the other in the air as if he wanted to make a point. "You know if you would stop avoiding me and get to know me you will find that I am a very nice guy."

Priya crossed her arms then gave him a once over; he was dressed in black jogging pants and a body hugging gray t-shirt. He obviously couldn't be outdoors without his sunglasses since his eyes always scrunch up as soon as he takes the glasses off, which is what it was doing now since his sunglasses were missing. He looked as if he had ran his hand through his hair instead of a comb but none of that took away from the handsome face with its five o'clock shadow.

"Why is it so important for me to get to know you Mr. Raute?" She asked then raised her eyebrow and waited for his answer.

Arjun's smile disappeared; even I don't know why it is important to get to know you but I just know that I want to know everything about you, he thought to himself. He moved closer to her and smiled at her again. "Because you seem like a person who would make a good friend." Arjun realized this is the truth in her case.

"Correct," Arjun and Priya both turned to see Sameer standing behind them with a big smile on his face. "So what do you say Priya, will you be our friend?

Priya tilted her head a bit and studied Sameer then turned her head to look at Arjun again, "Will you go away if I say no?"

Sameer and Arjun looked at each other then grinned at Priya, "No." They both said at the same time.

Priya knew she has run out of options and places to hide from the two determined men. While she understood Sameer's motive for being her friend after seeing the way he hadn't been able to keep his eyes off of Swati, when she and Swati had been talked into sitting with them to eat dinner, Priya still didn't understand why Arjun wanted to be friends with her.

She finally shrugged her shoulders, "Then if looks as if I have no choice but to give in and accept your friendship." She then turned and walked towards the track. She turned back after taking few steps and placed her hand on her hip. "You two have already wasted fifteen minutes of my time so let's get moving."

Sameer and Arjun walked towards her, "Where are we going?" Arjun asked teasingly knowing she was telling them to start jogging.

She just shook her head and turned to start jogging around the track leaving it up to them to either join her or leave. She wasn't surprised to see both of them catch up with her quickly.

After that morning Priya had stopped avoiding them but she didn't actively seek them out either. Arjun or Sameer always managed to find her wherever she happened to be to drag her along with them to practice shooting skills, play a simple game of table tennis or dart board games.

Arjun had the hardest time talking her into going with them to any place but not Sameer and Arjun did not miss this. He couldn't figure out why Priya never relaxed with him like she did with Sameer.

As the time passed Priya did start to relax with him and forgot all her reasons for being overly cautious when it comes to making new friends. After her parents were killed Priya never let anyone get close to her because she had learned the bitter lesson of depending on people. She learned to be self-reliant once her parents were no longer there to protect her.

With time her feelings for Arjun also grew stronger and her fear of rejection also became impossible to ignore. As she learned more about him and his family she realized just how different their world really was from one another.

She had been an only child and her whole world had revolved around her parents until their death. Her father had also been an only child and had no other relatives and her mother only had one brother, who had taken her in after her parent's death.

Arjun grew up in a big family with one elder brother and one younger sister. He had lots of relatives from both side of his family. Priya loved to hear him and Sameer talk about his family and couldn't help but like them even without meeting any of them.

Priya also learned Arjun's reasons for wanting to be a police officer. He and Sameer had been friends for a long time and attended the same school. When they were in college Sameer's parents and younger brother were killed in a bomb blast. This incident had made both realize that their family was not immune to these types of dangers and they had both made the decision to become police officers to help prevent these types of tragedy from happening to others.

Priya had admired their devotion and determination to do all they can to make the world a safer after the incident. She also saw that not only Sameer but also Arjun had been affected in a big way when Sameer's parents were killed in the bomb blast.

Priya had known that she was out of her league where Arjun was concerned and as she learned more about him that realization hit home harder so she didn't let herself dream of anything more than a friendship with him until Sameer confronted her one-day.

Present

Priya's musings into the past shattered as the SUV came to a screeching halt at a traffic signal. She glanced at Arjun and reflected back on the reason for his wanting to be a police officer and thought how twisted life can get.

Arjun had been a carefree young man who enjoyed life to the fullest until his best friends parents were killed in a bomb blast that had been meant for someone else. The incident not only made him more aware of the cruel side of the world it also took some of his faith in god away from him.

Who would have guessed that the tragedy, that led to Arjun becoming a police officer, would one day bring another tragic event into his life that would forever change the person, who may have lost his faith, but still believed in love and life, forever into a man who didn't care for anything but to put the people who do wrong deeds away for their crimes in jail and find the person who killed his beloved wife. Who would have guessed that the man who had smiled and laughed so easily will one day completely lose his faith in god and would have forgotten to smile altogether?

Priya sighed as she saw the traffic ahead; the usual fifteen minutes to her home was going to take much longer tonight it seems. By the time she came down to the car park outside of the ETF office Arjun had been sitting in the driver's seat of the SUV waiting for her patiently. She had been unable to come up with a suitable excuse to decline the offer of ride home so she had climb into the SUV without saying anything at all.

Arjun glanced at Priya from the corner of his eye and wondered what she had been thinking about for the past ten minutes. Several times during the ten minute ride he had tried to come up with something to talk about but nothing had come to mind.

Time and distance has put them in the same place they had been five years ago. The friendship, the comfort level they had built while at academy was all gone, they are back to being strangers to each other yet there is still that familiarity at certain level where the silence between them is not uncomfortable.

His initial anger and accusations had evaporated in the past twenty-four hours. After his conversation with Priya the night before he had thought long and hard about what she said and realized that his anger had been misplaced. He blamed everyone and everything for Roshni's death instead of blaming himself for what happened to Roshni.

He had pushed the memories of the days before Roshni's death to the back of his mind because it had only hurt to remember that time but now he needed to know what happened to make Priya lose contact with them completely. He needed to know what had led to Sikandar to Roshni.

As he turned his head towards her his eyes caught the long jagged scar on her right cheek, which he had ignored after, he saw it the first time. He never even acknowledged to himself because of his anger towards her but now his mind was conjuring up all kinds of scenarios regarding Priya and the past.

He turned his head to the front, as the traffic started moving; his mind raced with possibilities as he drove towards her house.

Ten minutes later Arjun stopped in front of Priya's apartment building. She hadn't bothered to give him the address to her place knowing he must have got it from Shree before they left. She unclipped her seatbelt and reached for the door handle but stopped when he turned the ignition to turn off the car.

Arjun had expected Priya to run as soon as he stopped the car and was not surprised to see her do just that but had not expected her to hesitate when he shut off the engine. He waited for her to say something but she just reached for the door handle to get out of the car.

"Priya wait," he said quickly to stop her, "I need to know more about Sikandar."

Priya sighed deeply and turned to him reluctantly, her brain commanded her to tell him she already shared what she knew but her mouth would not cooperate with her. She knew what he wanted to know and she also knew that this time she wouldn't be able to evade him so easily. She would rather take his anger than deal with his determination.

When he gets tenacious about something he is a force to be reckoned with because he won't stop until everything starts making sense to him. She looked away from the determination etched on his face and reached for the door handle to open the door. "You might as well come up with me; I don't feel like sitting in the car to talk." She got out and walked towards her apartment building.

Swati's apartment

Swati turned off the stove when she heard her doorbell ring and walked towards the door quickly knowing Sameer would be on the other side of the door. She had waited all day for him to show up then decided to cook something to pass the time.

She breathed deeply once before she reached for the door and opened it. Her heart lurched when she saw him standing outside her door looking unsure as she felt. One look at each other and they both understood how the other felt and just like that everything from the past disappeared.

Swati moved aside and gave him a reassuring smile. Sameer relaxed when he saw her smile as she opened the door wider and stepped aside. He walked into her apartment then closed the door and waited for her to say something.

Swati knew they will have to work hard to get back to the comfort level of the past but she knew that things between them this time around would be much different than before. She could see the determination and love in Sameer's eyes clearly and it was this that made her step forward to place her arms around him to hug him.

Sameer was stunned by her gesture for a moment then realized that she had taken a step forward without any explanations from him and he couldn't hold back either. He hugged her back and tightened his arms around her when he heard her sigh with relief.

After few minutes he let her go reluctantly when she pulled back to put her palm on his cheek, "I am so glad you are safe." She said softly.

He took her hand then placed a small kiss in the middle of her palm. "I had a good reason to stay safe." He cupped her face with both hands then looked into her eyes, "you know that I love you right? I never stopped loving you Swati. Please understand my decision to break up had nothing to do with you."

Swati placed her hand on his wrist then blinked back the tears as she nodded, "I do know that you love me and I never stopped loving you either." She paused and wiped the lone tear from the corner of her eye, "But please be sure this time because I don't think I will survive if you change your mind again even if it is for my own good."

Sameer immediately pulled her in his arms and buried his face in her neck. "I won't I promise; I don't care what we have to face in the future I will always stay by your side. Thank you Swati for giving me a chance to make up for hurting you in the past and for forgiving me for what I did."

Swati didn't answer; just tightened her arm around him and that was enough to let him know that things would be alright between them from here on out.

Arjun followed Priya into her apartment and wasn't surprised when he saw everything in its place. She had always been a very well organized and neat person, she had never liked any kind of clutter around her so had known that she would have taken the time to unpack and organize everything in its place in the apartment before she started working for ETF.

He also felt the familiar feeling of being home when he walked into her apartment that, he hadn't felt in the last three years.

The moment he stepped into her apartment he was taken back to academy and to the time he spent there with Rathore and Priya. He looked around the main living area and was momentarily distracted when Priya said something to him.

"Have a seat, I will be right back." She said then walked down the hall. He assumed she went to freshen up so he turned back to books lined up in the bookcase in the corner of the room. He noted the title of the books and thought nothing has changed as far as her reading habits went. Most of the books in the bookcase were either fictional mysteries or crime related books, and then there were books on forensic science and profiling.

He scanned the top shelf of the bookcase and saw pictures of her and Swati together and one picture of her parents only, there were no other pictures anywhere in the room. He was reminded of his parents' home in Delhi and how his mother had loved to hang picture on all the walls in the house of different times of their lives.

He went to stand by the window and thought would he and Priya be in a different place in life now if he hadn't misunderstood what he saw that day at the academy. If he hadn't let few words of another person influence him into believing that Priya and Sameer loved each other.

Priya glanced into the main living area as she passed by on her way to the kitchen to make tea for them, she stopped to observe Arjun then walked away when she saw him standing by the window with a faraway expression on his face.

She put the kettle on the stove to make the tea as her thoughts wandered back into the past and the day Rathore had confronted her about her feelings for Arjun.

I know, I know you guys want to know what Priya will reveal to Arjun but that would make this a very long update, so I am stopping here.

Arjun turned to see Priya standing next to him with a cup of tea, he took the tea then turned back to look outside as he took the first sip of the tea. He glanced down at the tea in his cup and his lips quirked up in an almost smile as he looked at her. "You remembered how I like my tea."

Priya shrugged her shoulders and looked away from him. That almost smile and the small sparkle in his eyes had made her heart skip a beat, she tightened her hand on the teacup when she felt a small tremor go through her. Last thing she wanted was for him to see how much he affected her.

She turned back to him when she saw him turn toward the view outside again. "You said you wanted to know more about Sikandar but I am not sure what more I can tell you that is not written in the file I showed you tonight."

Arjun didn't take offense at the change of subject. It just fully hit him that things would never be same between them. "Yes I read what was in the file but there are too many lose ends and I am trying to connect them. For instance Vikram was second in command in the company that his brother Sikandar owned. How is Malhotra related to Sikandar and Vikram? You were with them for about eight months so you must have made the connection so why then all that is not in the file you showed us?"

Moving to the flashbacks,
THIS is what I was waiting for!
It was very refreshing and slightly funny to see Rathore and Arjun running behind Priya to get her to be friends with them..
So, she was a difficult nut to crack, huh? Interesting!

Pah! Only if Arjun-Priya would've understood their suppressed feelings and confronted themselves, things would've been way different..
The picture looks a lot clearer now..

Guys can be such morons when it comes to guesswork, right? Even the most brightest ones fail to understand the way a woman's mind works.. But then again, you can't blame them..

Couldn't help but sympathise with Arjun when Priya made the distinguishes between the old and the present day Arjun..
Yes, he's mean, hot-tempered and selectively amnesiac when it comes to Priya and Roshni, individually.. But the guy's been through a living hell.. And if I've understood the way the story is heading, there's no respite for him, anytime soon..

Sameer-Swati.. I'm honestly happy for them.. Kudos to their mutual understanding and maturity.. I'm soo glad that they're giving love and life a second chance.. I guess, this blooming relationship is going to be a catalyst in building the other one.. 😊

Well, back to Priya's house, and I couldn't help falling for Arjun.. (old or new, does it really matter?!)😛
It's good to see that he is slowly thinking rationally and connecting the dots..

Also, that bit about Priya being affected by his presence and Arjun pondering over the misunderstanding in the past has me keeping my hopes high on the duo.. All's not lost, yet! 😊

I'm looking forward to reading what and how much of the past does Priya end up disclosing to Arjun and us.. And also more of the flashbacks.. 😊

I have to say, Arjun stole the show in this one, for me personally.. 😉
