"A man inherited a field in which was an accumulation of old stone, part of an older hall. Of the old stone some had already been used in building the house in which he actually lived, not far from the old house of his fathers. Of the rest he took some and built a tower. But his friends coming perceived at once (without troubling to climb the steps) that these stones had formerly belonged to a more ancient building. So they pushed the tower over, with no little labour, and in order to look for hidden carvings and inscriptions, or to discover whence the man's distant forefathers had obtained their building material. Some suspecting a deposit of coal under the soil began to dig for it, and forgot even the stones. They all said: 'This tower is most interesting.' But they also said (after pushing it over): 'What a muddle it is in!' And even the man's own descendants, who might have been expected to consider what he had been about, were heard to murmur: 'He is such an odd fellow! Imagine using these old stones just to build a nonsensical tower! Why did not he restore the old house? he had no sense of proportion.' But from the top of that tower the man had been able to look out upon the sea." -

Shade #18
He had come late from office...an Annual edition of a Fashion Magazine's launch party - she was standing by the pool...
he went and wrapped her in his arms from behind -- the smell in her tresses --- the warmth of her skin -- as he rubbed his cheeks to her neck -- the friction in their touch -- the day's tiredness washed away...
"did you miss me..." he whispered
suddenly with a jerk she freed herself and pushed him back...turned -- fire in her eyes...
surprised with the sudden reaction -- "what the..."
"you smell different..."
"no...what do you mean..."
"you know what i mean..."
pause...
he smirked and inched closer..."no, i dont..."
"Arnav..."...she tried to walk past...
he immediately held her by wrist...smiled...she said Arnav only when she was furious with him...only when he would have annoyed her to bits...
"Khushi, you know the ladies like to please me at parties..."
she looked into those molten, mischevious eyes of her husband...
"Naani ji was little unwell today -- will sleep with her tonite..."
and she walked away -- he sighed -- a long night ahead of wooing the wife back to bed...
all for fragrances -- that were not a part of him...
Shade #4
He turned his back to her...his anger she could sense even in the jerk of his shoulders...
"listen to me once..." she tried saying
"enough Khushi..." ..."before I loose my control leave me alone..."
the ice chill in the air slashed through her heart...
"your silence stabs me...look at me once...scream at me..."
he didnt move...silence...she could feel the fear in her heart...sound of heartbeats...of hers...of his...
"do you think pushing me away from yourself will help you...do you think if I go away...you will be more happy...do you think you can hate me ever...for what I am not responsible ...will that make things better..."
she took a step towards him...gulped...and slowly her finger tips touched his hand...she slipped her hands into his cold yet firm hand...she pressed it --- for a moment she felt the tension easing in his body ...at her touch...
in seconds...the moment evaporated...he jerked her hand and turned and grabbed her...with all the power...elements of his unexplained anger seething through his veins in the pressure...she could see the cloud of fear...confusion...defeat...love...in his eyes.
but only anger in his brows...
And he felt the warmth of his rage underneath the layers of her pale skin...
yet he roared...
"stop it Khushi..."
the room echoed his words...he felt the shiver in her spines as he grabbed her more firmly...
"does me loving you...does we being in love change the situation...'
she looked back at her husband...words failing her...
"its my fault...if I have not met you ever...if never fell in love...if we changed our paths long back...we wouldnt have come to this day...I cant see my Di suffer because of me...dont you get that..." - his voice softened...she heard the plead as he loosened the grip...
as he bend his head down...she looked searchingly in his eyes...tears rolling down her face...
"neither you...neiher me chose this path...destiny chose it for us...we were meant to be together...and more than me, you know that...every time I went away, you found me back..."
she waited...hearing his silence...
"what happened none of us wanted...as much as it angers you...as much as it pains you...more than you it hurts me - pains me...as I feel I am the reason Di had to suffer...but you hating me..."
she stopped...she didnt want to say any further...answer he had to find...he looked back at her...he knew that...
slowly she stepped away...madness in his anger tested their love...he closed his eyes...
in moments when he opnened the eys...she had gone away...
