Hey guys,
Here's another OS...
Sitting with him on the stairs had now become a habit of mine. I wish he knew how much I loved him. Never did I think that I was going to fall for my best friend. It just happened suddenly. Well he had his girlfriend to take care of not of his sick best friend.
"Another one of my bad days. Don't know how will I handle everything" He said with a sigh
"Don't worry everything will be fine" I said assuring him
"Well...It's difficult for me you know"
"What's so difficult in handling a girlfriend? You can do it with a blink of an eye"
"I wish you were right but Maya's not the type of girl who can be handled easily. Oh!! I need to go with her to the cafe near our home tomorrow"
"You could have left her if you didn't love her"
"I wouldn't even have made her my girlfriend if I wouldn't have loved her, stupid"
"My bad!! She doesn't like me, does she?" I asked checking my watch
"Oh Gosh!!!! Virat I gotta go. Stepmom's going to kill me" I said before letting him answer my question. I quickly hugged him and ran to my car. When I didn't love him, then hugging him was okay with me but nowadays it's different. I had to focus on what punishment I was going to get from my stepmom. My mom died when I was really young and then dad married another woman because he thought that I had to have a mom to look after me. Well somehow bad things always happen to me because dad died after a few months in a plane crash. I was left with my stepmom who started showing her true colours. I still remember that she used to leave my for many days and I had to live with Virat's family. That's how we became friends!! I went and opened the door where stepmom was standing and looking at me with a stern look.
"You're late" She said
"P-please I-i'm sorry stepmom. I won't b-be l-late again" I said taking a few steps backwards.
Suddenly my stepmom kneeled down and held her ears. I stared at her in disbelief. Was she apologizing to me?
"I'm sorry Maanvi. I'm sorry for what I did to you all these years." She said while tears came out of her eyes
"Stepmom you don't need to say sorry"
"No I need to. I was in your room and saw those pictures of your childhood and all. I saw that most of your pics were taken with Virat's family. Not with me. I left you for days. I treated you so harshly. I've never told you the reason so today I need to blurt out the truth otherwise you'll start hating me more"
I made her sit on the sofa and got a glass of water for her. I sat on the sofa beside her.
"You read my childhood diary didn't you? Where I wrote horrible things about you" I said smiling and she nodded.
"That doesn't matter Maanvi. I need to tell you the truth" She said and cried
"Okay if that's what you want to do"
"I was struggling at the time when your father married me. He really never loved me you know. But that's okay. Well I found you very cute at first and you still are. I thought of treating you like a real mother but I couldn't because I came to know the my mother had pancreatic cancer. I made you do work, punish you, hit you and what not!!! It was because I was frustrated with my life. Then this Monday I came to know that my mother died. It took me a lot of time to overcome the pain. My mom fought the cancer for many years but she couldn't anymore. It was then I realized that I neglected you. I should have spent time with you" She cried bitterly and I hugged her
"I truly understand what you went through but today's Friday so lets spend some time together"
"Okay...In fact I've already done something which you always wanted to" She said and laughed
"What is it stepmom?" I asked suspiciously
"It's a surprise and don't you dare call me stepmom anymore. Call me mom...it fells good" She said and blindfolded my eye.
She took me upstairs and opened the blindfold. I saw my room beautifully painted and decorated with a trampoline in the middle. My room was quite big so it fitted there.
"It's a trampoline" I said in excitement
"I read your diary and came to know that you always wanted to jump on a trampoline. I know you wrote it when you were a kid but I just thought that you might like it"
"I don't like it I love it!!! It's so cute and Oh!!! there's a teddy bear in the middle. Lets jump" I shouted and both of jumped there. After a while we sat on it and mom got some cold drink and snacks. We talked about our lives and she asked me a lot about me.
"So Virat's your best friend right?" She asked
"Yup" I replied
"What happened?" She asked me. Apparently she noticed my sadness
"Nothing"
"Maanvi tell me what happened. You might feel better"
I told her that I loved Virat but he loved some else.
"Well in that case, I can't help you much but I can tell you just one thing and that is wait for the best time to tell him. If he rejects at that time then he even rejects you as his best friend"
I looked at her and hugged her tightly.
"Don't worry honey...it will be okay" She said
We we enjoyed the whole evening together and then slept off late at night. I woke up next morning and got ready. I went downstairs where mom was making breakfast. She kissed my cheek and I quickly ate up my food. I didn't have to go to office as it was a holiday so I thought of calling Virat to home.
"I'm going to tell him how nice you are" I said
"Haha you can Maanvi" She replied
"He's not picking up his phone" I said
"You can go meet him if you want and then you can bring him here"
"Okay!!! hey wait he must be in the cafe"
"Great you go there and call him"
"Bye!!!"
"Bye sweetheart"
I went to the cafe and saw Virat and Maya sitting together. I thought of waiting but then I had a sudden urge to eavesdrop. I went inside and took a place where they couldn't see me.
"Maya I promise there's nothing going on between me and Maanvi"
"Is that so?"
"Yes in fact she's nothing but a friend of mine"
