Having son is very important in Guju families. I know so many people who actully takes speical pills to have son. So in a way i m not supirsed at all that they choose guju family. I am not aware of south indian or punjabi culures but for gujus yes it is important

Chill guys, more than half the shows on television now are based either in Gujju or Punjabi families. Going by that then there's a whole load of other things u can generalize by...

As for the whole wanting a son part. Maybe it doesn't happen so much in urban regions, but in rura India, I'm pretty sure its still prevalent. Maybe they don't treat girls quite as badly as they seem to show in the shows, but the son is king!!!

I find that unfair!!! I m guju n no one in my family does it!!! I dont like how their base on my people!!![

/QUOTE]

Dowry rate is highest in Andhra pradesh. As Dowry goes more than 20 lakhs to 1 cr for usual family ( middle class government job) too...

But abortion rate is highest in gujrat/panjab.

both the shows are based on the same script so that is the reason i guess both show gujrati families. i don't think discrimination is just among gujratis. it could be in any indian family.

my take on it is that there were rumours that one channel had stolen ideas for the show from the other (i dnt know which one did off which) maybe thats why the gujrati families are the same, cuz if u notice there are also other similarities, like the two sisters of the dad dnt you think that there characters are very similar to each other? I maybe wrong but this is what my take is and as for the gujrati thing i think that that was because there arent any shows based around gujratis to my knowledge so they thought that they would base it on a gujrati family.

and yeh its true that a family will always want a boy more then a girl.

and anyone that is saying that girls and guys have equality, that is so not true. (no disrespect to anyone) even here in the uk its not true. just think, if a guy gets married to a white girl or sum1 from a different religion it will be accepted but if a girl did it she wud b disowned (in most families).

the truth of the matter is that if u take a bad situation (anything) and put it on a girl, SHE HAS BROUGHT SHAME ON THE FAMILY "IZZAT"

But if you put it on a boy - THEY WILL BE ALOT MORE OPEN TO ACCEPTING THE SITUATION.

And that is what it boils down too.

but its upto us to change this in the future and give equality to all our kids and treat them well and fairly.

thanks for reading guys😊

i think they are not picking a guju background to pick on the culture because this problem is prevalent in lot of other indian cultures as well but because of the cosmetic value. Gujratis are a colorful people and there are lot of them settled abroad who can relate to the language, customs, clothes, etc. shown on the show.

this is ture..I have noticed that all these shows about gender discrimination are always about Gujus....I'm a guju and I dont know any other guju family that has this rule...this would be considered streotyping!
