Mature love stories, divorces, remarriages — the small-screen has been dealing
with all these hitherto taboo topics for the
last two years. The latest issue to catch
the fancy of makers is the battle for child
custody between warring partners. Punar
Vivaah on Zee has protagonist Aarti's ex-husband
Prashant fighting for the
custody of his son Ansh.

In Bade Acche Laggte Hai
(Sony), Ram and Priya are having a tug-ofwar over who will take care of their daughter Pihu and in Parichay, Siddhi and Abhay
have been at loggerheads over the custody
of their twin boys.

Prashant Bhatt, weekday programming
Head, Colors says that it's a reflection of
the real world. "It's not just the theme of
child custody gaining importance on television, this is happening all around us. TV is
only a medium to relay the story. We are trying to highlight real life situations through
our shows like Parichay. There are many
homes where parents have separated and
are fighting for custody of their children.
We want to highlight the state of the child
trapped between feuding adults. Viewers connect easily with children and that
helps build context." Sumeet Mittal who is
producing Punar Vivaah and has just shot
a melodramatic court scene avers, "We
are dealing with a socially relevant subject
where this kind of marital disharmony is
common, specially if a child is involved
in a broken marriage. We are trying
to convey a message that children's
emotional stability is most important and they must not be traumatised."

Pyschologist Seema Hingoranny is all for television creating
awareness about sensitive issues.
"The medium is picking up what I call lifestyle issues that audiences can relate to. It
is good to the point of raising awareness
but in most cases it becomes melodramatic.
The negativity and mud-slinging between
the protagonists can send a wrong message
because viewers look at them as role models," she warns.
However, Vivek Bahl, Chief Creative Director, Sony, assures that while the aim is
to reflect society, "the effort is to underline
hope, learning and positivity through the
same." We hope so too!

Its a wonderful concept that they are picking up n highlighting. Reality is shown in a good wat but showing a woman striking deals to save her husband kids is some thing which sounds absurd where the society gives her a name of mistress n characterless no mater what just for the drama quotient no one has got right to show women so cheap n men playing with their emotions
we men emerge from women we r nothing without. Them In our childhood as a mother.sister, later as a wife friend guide ...woman play many roles in a mans life
such a high dignity gender portrayal should always fighting n winning or if failing to win her man should be shown supportive...but should not be showing th striking deals becoming. Sacrificing lambs
The role a man plays in a mans life... Is respectable n remarkable and man plays a role of womans life in reality
makers should realize the sensitivity of the tracks which they come up keeping in mind that their shows will have a remarkable impact in the viewers
fans at times gets obsessed with their celebrity and go head over heels they want what they wanna see they can't take anything against their fav stars some drool mire than needed these are personal perceptions and in their obsession they go to extent of insulting and hurting others badly...
chaya thanks for the article and tanu thanks for posting...

Thanks for the article.

Now I am sorry but what kind of cruel joke is this? Siddhi and Abhay fighting for their twins; do they even know what is the show about? Also there would be no legal battle between Kunal-Siddhi for their kids if it wasn't for sick sick twist. In reality both are not separated.

Now the guy from Colors; for the love of God don't even utter one word about portraying reality. An educated lady, mother of two who is still married gives into compulsion of a psycho as he put knife on her son's throat and simply marries him, while her husband witnesses this? What the hell are you talking about with "real life" portrayal in Parichay.😡 In real life, woman would call her husband, not go get ready for puke worthy wedding.

Why don't you first see what your show is portraying before making such statements and letting us know your IQ level. If what was shown is your "real life", I wonder where exactly do you live?😕

You have got to be freaking kidding me!!! REAL WORLD? REAL LIFE SITUATIONS? Please excuse me while I go and find a dictionary for the programming head of Colors so he can look up the definition of the word REAL. Parichay is just miles and miles away from reality. The show exists in some parallel universe where during a custody battle, underage children get to stand in the witness box and tell the whole world about their parents love life and then go onto outsmart all the lawyers present in court by simply having read a random law book.

Wow...What a REAL portrayal of courts, custody battles, lawyers, and judges that was...👏

Definitely agree with what the psychologist said about things becoming excessively melodramatic but honestly, our standards for 'role models' must be very low if we are looking to find them in hindi television serials..😳

sure a big joke !

do they even know what they are talking about ?

strange that they are careless to this extent !

we would like to bring to their kind knowledge that - In parichay the kids are kunal and sidhi's children .

realism was to an extent there in the show initially but with time it got totally ruined .

hopefully with some recent developments we hope to get back the old charm of the show .
