Part 28

"Geet I need to attend this call. I will catch up with you afterwards", he said as he left her in the hallway.

"I wonder who is calling Maan" Geet thought. "It must be important. Maybe it is about work...what is it that Maan does?" It was then she realised that she didn't actually know what Maan did for a living. But how would she know? She has never really had a conversation about him or his family. All their talks related to her ill-fated engagement, the consequences of the night in the tent and their rushed wedding. Even last night and this morning didn't enlighten her expect for some insight on his personality. "He is gentle, respectful, treats women equally and is really passionate." She blushed at the last thought. Beyond that she had no clue about Maan. "Jhalli. What if someone asks me about my husband? How will I respond? I really need to find out some basics about Maan. Tonight...I will talk to him tonight. I will refuse any sexual advances until I know more about the man I have married" she told herself resolutely.

She was still in the hall holding the land papers and decided to put them away safely in her room. She chose to put them in the cupboard with all her important documents- her passport (even though she hadn't used it yet), her interior design degree and her appointment letter with Khurana Constructions. She looked at the appointment letter with a tinge of sadness. Her dreams about her career would remain dreams. "I would be starting the job in a week's time. I should ring Adi bhai about the job...but today is Sunday. He must be enjoying his day off with Pinky. Tomorrow, I will ring him tomorrow" she said to herself, putting the letter back in it's place.

Maan entered the room and found Geet thoughtfully looking at the cupboard.

"Are you okay Geet?" he asked concerned.

"Uhm...Yes" she replied absently.

Maan looked at Geet, but decided not to ask her why she was so thoughtful, since he was in a rush to leave. "Geet, I need to go out for a while. I will be back in the evening" Maan said grabbing his keys and leaving the room in a hurry.

She heard Maan leave the room. She sat down on the bed, thinking of everything that had happened in the few short days that she had been back in HP. She became engaged to Dev, nearly been kidnapped, saved by Maan, beaten by Brij, tried to commit suicide and finally married Maan. "It sounds like some masala movie or a serial on Star One when you think about it!" Geet said to herself. She looked at the bed, and saw a single rose petal from last night that the maid had missed. She picked up the petal and smiled to herself. "And last night? That was unplanned...did I mean to give into a physical relation so soon? I don't regret it. How can I regret something that made me feel so alive? Maan is my husband and I have accepted him as my husband. I trust Maan. I like Maan, but I cannot say that I love him yet. Can I? What does he feel for me? Pity? Seeing me being abused by my own brother and attempting suicide? Maybe he feels responsible for my state? Was last night just a physical release for him or does he have some feelings for me?" Geet was becoming anxious the more she thought about Maan and how little she knew about him. Her thoughts were interrupted by Rajji who called her downstairs for lunch. She was happy for the distraction.

"So Ms Roy, are these the papers? Have you read through them?" Maan asked as they sat in Mr Singh's office.

"Yes Maan...I mean Mr Khurana. These papers close the case filed against you by Geet. Once you sign them, Mr Singh will file them with Inspector Pandey, and the case will be closed. You will be free to leave HP then", Ms Roy told Maan.

"When do you anticipate the case to be closed?" Maan asked

"In the next day or 2. I will call you once I get confirmation that the case has been closed" Ms Roy answered.

Maan signed the papers. As he was leaving he asked "Ms Roy, have you submitted the marriage certificate?"

Ms Roy looked at Maan puzzled. "Why is he so concerned about the certificate? It's probably to show the Handas that he has accepted Geet, so that he can leave here in peace. I wonder what he will do with Geet once he leaves here. Hopefully he divorce her soon and pay her to leave him...then he will be free"she thought dreamily.

"Ms Roy???" Maan shouted at Ms Roy bringing her back to reality.

"Sorry. I was miles away. Yes, I have submitted the certificate. You should receive a copy of the certificate in a few days"

Maan left Mr Singh's office and sat in his jeep. In 2 days he could leave HP. He decided to call Daadi, since he hadn't talked to her in a few days.

"Hello, this is Savitri Devi speaking"

"Daadi"

"Oh. So you finally remembered your poor sick Daadi, huh? But what do you care? I could die here all alone, and you wouldn't even know"

"Daaadii. Don't be over dramatic. It's only been a few days"

"Yes but for someone like me, at the end of life, a few days is a long time. But what of it...what do you care? If you did care about me, you wouldn't go away on these trips...or if you did insist on going on these trips you would at least leave me with my bahu...but where is my bahu? Will I ever live to see my bahu???

Maan rolled his eyes. Daadi was going a bit over the top as usual. But he loved her antics so he put up with them. "Daadi. Please stop it. I am sorry...I am holding my ears. All things going well, I will be home in a few days. Miss you Daadi"

"Miss you too beta. Take care and see you soon"

Maan ended the conversation. Looking at his phone, he said. "I have a surprise for you Daadi. I won't be coming alone! No, Geet will be with me. How will I explain the circumstances of our marriage? Daadi will surely accept Geet, won't she? Yes of course she will. I will explain that Geet is...is what? What do I know about Geet? That she comes from HP. That she has a backward thinking Daarji and brother? That her family think honour is worth killing for? But what about Geet? She is beautiful and innocent. She likes to play jokes...she enjoys her chat pata khana...she blushes a lot...and is very passionate. Maybe I won't tell Daadi, the last bit!" Maan thought. "Tonight, I will get to know Geet tonight...and not just in the physical sense!"

Maan swung by his Munshi's office to clear any pending work and also to make arrangements to return to Delhi for the day after tomorrow. It was evening by the time he returned to Handa Haveli when the ladies were setting the table for dinner.

The case stuff has been cleared..nice one.

So they are wanting to know about each other..great, but I wonder will they...hope u r not planning any major twist here...at least not of separating them...plzzz not that...
