I have been seeing the umpteen debates on who is better, Anandi, Gauri or Ganga. There are bashers all over and have been bashing Anandi or Gauri. Fortunately Ganga is spared yet, as her story has just started. 😆😆😆 So wanted to share my POV and analysis on the same.
Please note that this post is not meant for any form of bashing, and if anyone has to bash any character, please refrain from doing so in this post. This post I have put it purely from my analysis perspective and so any form of healthy analysis and thinking (except bashing) is most welcome here.
Anandi, Gauri and Ganga- One thing is common between all the 3 and that is the evil of Bal vivah, which had impact on each of their lives in different forms. All these 3 people have been a victim of the bal vivah and all 3 have been very interested in education and study further.
Anandi: Anandi was married of at the tender age of 8 to Jagadish, and her childhood was stil pending, she was forced to live in her sasural much before the puberty. As her parents got scared of the village and society taunts. She was made to behave like a perfect beendni and bahu, especially by dadisa at a very tender age. She was made to take care of the kitchen at a very young age and made to eat jhoota of Jagadish.
The small mercies were the unending support that she got of Bhairav, Sumitra and Jagadish, who also in his own way was her playmate in her lonliness. Bhairav, who really proved that one can be very progressive and quitely revolt by trying to provide the education to Anandi.
Anandi, was forced to forgo the education which was the most precious thing for her, as she was taught by her parents and the elders that as a bahu, she has to do what her in-laws tell her to do. People might bash her for doing so, but let us remember, the roots that we should not oppose our elders and have to listen to them and also that once the girl marries, she has to take on the responsibility of her in-laws, are still very strong here. Even in big cities, parents bring up their daughters in such a manner and they teach them household work and chores, for the fear that their daughters may get reprimanded.
Anandi, took education and social work as a medium to fight out the emotional abuse that Jagadish gave her, by leaving her for another woman at a young age. Her quest for knowledge and learning, is what empowered her within, and broaden her thinking and give her strength to fight against the evils of the society. She used education as a weapon to fight and emerge as a victor.
Gauri : Gauri was another victim of bal-vivah, and who was driven to marry Jagadish(already married), and the main driving force was poverty and low economic standard. She was forced to listen to the society and the village taunts after her marriage was broken off in the panchayat.
She was however given a second chance in life, where Bhairav funded her education seeing her interest in it. Gauri wanted to be educated but for her I think the education was a medium of bettering her economic standards, which is not bad at all. Everyone has a right to do so. But as she was from a small town/village, being educated made her arrogant, as she was continously praised for achieving so much in life at such young age. For her education did not open her mind and broaden her thinking, but made her more arrogant, as a result of which she developed a healthy disdain for Anandi. My mom always says that arrogance comes in when you are trying to camaflouge your weakness and I also believe in that. Inner strength and confidence does not give any space for arrogance.
But finally she became very insecure and committed blunders by lying, and through small manipulations, as her ego had come to the fore and she could never accept that Jagadish can like some one like Anandi who is not as educated as her and modern as her.
However I still feel and maintain that her blunders and insecurites and lies are not so phenomenol that we should hate her and for Jagadish to have left her(however revolted he may be). After all he lived with her and he should be fully aware that there will be consequences for this
Ganga: Ganga also had a misfortune of being married to a man double her age at a tender age, where again poverty was a driving factor. She was also made to forego her education, which was her main interest. However she is tied to the family, mainly because of the child that she has given birth to. She is unfortunately a mother as well, who will first think about her child. But what I liked is the way CVs are showing her fighting spirit and the way she is fighting to be with the child and not lose the child. Let us see how the CVs shape up her story.
In all CVs have portrayed very beautifully that how each person takes in the education, and the struggles and evils of the life differently. This is what it is how for each person the meaning of education changes, and how the person embraces life and that is what I wanted to highlight.
