The Haunted Chronicles #1 - Chudail Ki Nazar

Jeet Saluja & Rano Walia are childhood friends. Their fathers too had been great friends. Jeet's father (Pratap Saluja) promises Rano's dying father to take care of his wife & daughters after him. Hence the Salujas & Walias share a very close bond.

Rano has been secretly in love with Jeet since she was child. However Jeet thinks of Rano as nothing more than a friend. He is completely unaware of Rano's feeling towards him. Jeet aspires to become a boxer & Rano is always shown inspiring & encouraging him.

One day while Jeet is driving home from his boxing practice, all of a sudden, a woman comes in front of his car. He is sure he has run her over by accident. But when he gets down to check out he sees the woman very far away walking into a thick fog. This is the first of many meetings between Jeet & the lady who calls herself Anamika. Next time Jeet sees Anamika near the edge of the road & thinks that she might jump off the side, however, and the very next instant Anamika is in her car!

In their future meetings Jeet experiences strange things. Sometimes tears well up in his eyes when he looks into her eyes, sometimes the smell of her perfume captivates him completely. At one time she guides him successfully through a dense fog & even manages to avoid hitting an oncoming truck.

Soon it is time for Jeets competition against Mickey, his arch rival. The winner would be selected for state level boxing matches. Jeet sprains his ankle when he falls off the road because of a car sent by Mickey to injure him. Jeet is depressed that because of the injury he will not be able to play in the match. But the next morning his ankle is perfectly alright'all thanks to Anamika!

Jeet wins the match. However Mickey & his friends trap Jeet in a false drug use case. The coach gets angry on knowing that Jeet might have won the match under the influence of some drugs & dismisses him from his academy immediately. Jeet, who is still under the influence of the drugs planted on him, stumbles on the road all alone. Anamika takes him to her place where he picks up a red diary. While dropping Jeet home she assures him that soon everything would be alright. After coming home he finds that the whole diary is empty except for a page which has the word "wait (intezzar)" written on it.

While Mickey is out with his friends celebrating his success in getting Jeet dismissed he starts suffering from major hallucinations. He sees himself everywhere, in his car, in his friends, in the mirror; once he is drowning in a swimming pool, the next moment he is back in his home. Each time a voice is ordering him to own up his crime. Mickey gets so terrified of what is happening that he ends up running to Jeets house & confessing his crimes in front of everyone. The coach apologizes to Jeet & invites him back to the academy. Mickey is admitted to an asylum

Jeet goes to meet Anamika the next day & give her the good news that his name has been cleared. He also returns the diary.

While all this is going on Rano has confessed to Bebe (Jeets grandmother) that she loves Jeet. Bebe tells this to Pratap & tries to convince him to get the two of them married. However Pratap feels that Jeet isn't a suitable boy for Rano as he is still very immature & irresponsible. Soon Pratap finds another guy, Shekhar for Rano. Rano agrees to marry Shekhar since she feels this will please her mother & Pratap too, who is just like a father for her.

Jeet is shocked to hear that Rano is getting married. After getting over the initial shock of Rano getting married, Jeet joins in the party & congratulates her. Rano is hurt to see that Jeet has no idea that she loves him.

Later Jeet & Rano quarrel a few times as he feels Rano is giving more importance to Shekhar than him. During one such quarrel when he is feeling lonely he goes to meet Anamika. There he sees a guitar & tries to play it. No sooner does he start than a string of the guitar breaks. Anamika gets angry & has tears in her eyes. Jeet promises to get it repaired. He is surprised to find from his friend who is fixing the guitar that the string is of platinum & copper & hence is antique & difficult to replace. However once the guitar string is fixed a new problem arises, the handle breaks!

Jeets friend fixes it up temporarily but when Jeet plays the guitar in front of Anamika the handle breaks. She gets angry & asks him to leave. Jeet is extremely frustrated by her behavior & his reactions to her. The next day he comes to her & says he wants to talk with her about many things. On not getting any reply he writes his number down in the red diary & leaves. Anamika watches his leave. Later a burnt, wrinkled hand reaches for the guitar which is lying next to the red diary. It is Anamikas right hand which is all burnt & wrinkled. The right hand, her face, etc are perfectly normal.

During Jeet & Ranos quarrels Preeto (Ranos mother) realizes that her daughter loves Jeet. She proposes marriage between them to Pratap who after a little convincing from Bebe agrees to the match.
