| Kangna's time to shine | |
| Her compelling portrayal of a disturbed alcoholic in Mahesh Bhatt's Gangster impressed all. Now Kangna Ranaut has secured a number of biggies, like a three-movie deal with UTV. In Woh Lamhe, she plays a character moulded on legendary actress Parveen Babi, who was a schizophrenic. Ranaut gave an exclusive interview to IndiaFM . . . Tell us more about Woh Lamhe? Woh Lamhe is scheduled for release on September 28. The music is already out - it's mind-blowing and doing very well! The film is loosely based on legendary Bollywood actress, Parveen Babi - I think everyone is aware of that. It is basically a love story between a struggling director and a very famous actress. Shiney (Ahuja) plays the director and I play the actress. This movie is about those beautiful moments a couple share in life. Was it difficult to slip into the character of a famous actress? Nothing is easy. Whenever I think something is easy, I mess it up. I had such an intense role in Gangster. I knew this new role was going to be difficult and that I would have to work very hard… and I did. But I enjoyed every minute of it. If something is so easy that I don't have to work at all, I don't enjoy it. Apart from Parveen Babi's life, Woh Lamhe is reportedly also inspired by Mahesh Bhatt's Arth? That's not true. Everything can be seen from a different perspective. This is just a love story between a director and actress. Woh Lamhe has been made from that perspective. It is not similar to Arth at all. Shiney Ahuja was your co-star in Gangster. Was it any different working with him this time? He's the same Shiney. There is no reason for him to be different. Is it true that you and Shiney did not see eye to eye? That's not true. Even if we had a fight, why would I tell you? Shaad Randhawa makes his debut in this film. Did he respond to you as his senior? I'm also a newcomer, I'm learning. I don't feel like a senior. The day I feel like one, I'll start behaving like one
Pritam Chakraborty, who did the musical score for Gangster, has done the same for Woh Lamhe. What do you think of the soundtrack? The music rocks! I think these songs are much better than Gangster. Have you moved out of the Bhatt camp? No. They make excellent films that go against the grain. One gets a lot of scope in their films. And, of course, they have great music. Directors like Mohit Suri and Anurag Basu are remarkably talented - I have no reason to move out of the Bhatt camp. Vishesh Films has been like family to me. Tell us about your three-film deal with UTV… One of the films will be directed by Anurag Basu. The directors for the other two have not been decided yet - perhaps David Dhawan or Madhur Bhandarkar. I'll go for the script I like the most. Tell us about Metro… I've just started that with Anurag. It's a UTV film. What is your ideal role? I don't really get excited doing something someone has already done. Good scripts with challenging characters excite me more. Who is your favourite actress among the veterans? I have several: Waheeda Rehman, Meena Kumari and Madhubala. They each have a different charm and beauty. I also like Hema Malini, Rekha and Parveen Babi. Which is your all-time favourite Hindi movie? Andaz Apna Apna. I can watch it anytime! Before Gangster, you had signed up for I Love You Boss … I did sign up for it, but the project fell through. Films are often left incomplete. I pulled out within two weeks because of a number of problems. Is there any truth to the rumour that the reason you pulled out was because you didn't want to work with Shatrughan Sinha? When I signed up for the film, Amitabh Bachchan was my co-star. After three months, the directors of I Love You Boss ... approached me again, but I was busy with Gangster. |
