Hello Fellow IF-Members 😃
I had the pleasure of attending Hemachandra concert in Toronto, on October 9/06. There are really no words to describe how wonderful it was, and how much it meant to hear Hemachandra sing live in concert!!! He is absolutely amazing!!! Here's the performance schedule (it's not in perfect order because I was so happy and lost in the music that I can't recall the exact order, and unfortunately there was no programme given out)
Started with an audio recording of Hemu singing the theme song for the Telugu Bharati Association, (sponsors of the show) while everyone found their seats.
There was a beautiful South Indian classical dance performed by locals.
Then Smithaji (who is an IF member here) sung "Pal Pal" from LRMB, and it sounded fantastic!
Then another female singer came on (do not know her name) and sang "Dhoom Machale" she was also good!
The MC asked if we want to see Hemachandra, and of course there was lots of screaming fans (me included!)
Then Hemachandra asked us (from backstage) if we could hear him, and where we thought he was. Then, to my surprise, he entered the theatre from a side door (very close to me!!!) and stated singing as he walked up to the stage. I was so shocked to see him from so close that I can't recall what he was singing when I saw him come in!!!
Then he began the show with "Ramta Jogi" It was very exciting to hear him sing the word "jogi" so many different ways, as he had done in SRGMP C2005. It was simply amazing!!! "Sabse Alag" (which sounded mindblowing!) and "Kal Ho Naa Ho" Then some local performers (two small children) danced on the song "Yeh Dil" and it was very cute. Hemachandra returned to the stage, and sung a Telugu song called "Nachindi Chesey" from the film "Boss." It was totally awesome, although I did not understand. Hemu dances very well!!! After this, he sung "Chand Sifarish" from "Fanna" it was amazing, and his voice sounded very fresh and suited the song very well.
After these songs, there was a question and answer session. Hemachandra answered all questions very politely, and you can see from the way he speaks that he is very humble, down-to-earth and nice. He is exactly the way he was in C2005!
Later on, Hemachandra and Smitha sung a duet to a Telugu song, sorry I'm not sure which one, but it was nice to listen to.
It was time for intermission, and after that there was a skit done by locals.
Hemu then sang a few lines of a Telugu song (I think someone from the audience requested this) followed by "Just Chill", and Hemu invited the audience to come up and dance. I did! It was totally awesome, and watching Hemu perform from that close up was too cool! Then Hemachandra sang a very fast Telugu song, then "Dus Bahane." He was really nice and again invited audience up to the stage. This time more people went up. Hemu danced a lot to this song and he's definitely a great dancer as we all saw in C2005). He sang a few lines of "Mundiyaan Tho Bach Ke" and it sounded great. Then he sang "Come to Me" (Bluffmaster) and the audience went crazy over his performance. Hemu also got presented with some plaques from organizers, which were well deserved. "One Love" and a few lines of "Dil Chatha Hai" were next. The last song of the evening was "Where's the Party Tonight?" from KANK that was performed with local talent. It rocked!!! Hemu said something about a surprise during the song…and guess what it was? He came into the audience while he was singing and started walking around and shaking hands with people! I was lucky since Hemu walked right by us (like 2 inches away!) and I was able to shake hands with him…I was completely shocked & happy J!!!
After the show we went backstage and saw Hemu!!! I was like totally amazed. My mom and I got autographs!!! I went up to him with a photo of him that I had printed out, and he looked at it and was like "Wow" and signed it for me!!!! I was sooooo excitred!!! We got pictures done with him!!! Whatever pics I could take while he was standing there I have posted them. (I tried really hard to take pics during the show, but I couldn't get any good ones, and the ushers were sooo strict, they made me put away my camera twice!) Then he came to out to the front entrance of the theatre and got a few more photos of him through the crowd. My mom and I went outside and to our surprise we met Hemu's manager and talked to him for a while. While we were outside, I could still see Hemu inside getting mobbed by the crowd. People of all ages were at this concert and it goes to show that Hemachandra truly does have a universal appeal and is loved by people of all ages!
Well, that was my experience at the Hemachandra Concert!!! It was a dream come true, and I'm glad I could share this with everyone!!! If anyone else attended the concert, please share your experience/pics too please!
Photos: taken mostly after the show as I wasn't allowed to take pics inside.
