Do item numbers insult women?

NOTE: I'm NOT blaming item numbers for sexual harassment or rape. Just wanted to know if they can be construed as misogynistic or disrespectful towards women. Some people say they are degrading, while others feel they are sexually liberating. What do you feel?

Yes... I do think that item numbers objectify women and these major stars getting associated with these items is just aggravating and encouraging the notion and perception that women shld be treated like an object...

I really feel these item numbers like Sheila, Chikni, Halkat, Fevicol etc are an unhealthy trend and i hope one day we see an end to this...

Girls in small towns particularly are at the receiving end of eve teasing and harassment... Our society is already very male biased and patriarchal... Some of these movies and the item songs are not helping either... These major stars shaking their booty and popularizing these item songs, Its just adding more legitimacy to an already preconceived notion abt women...

PS: My comments above are not related to rape. Its only related to eve teasing and general harassment of women...

Has anyone seen Deewar? Aruna irani has a mujra track in it, cleavage what she is showing in that film, it will beat all the current item stars who do skin show.

Sheila, munni or chameli didn't started it, you want them stopped, plz start it from 70's, 80's where Vamps shown much more than them.

Eve Teasing doesn't started or increased just coz of some famous item songs having some names... Even ppl tease with a song like "Ae meri Zohra jabi, tujhe maloom nahi"... many clean romantic tracks are often used 2 pass comments, the way RajKumaar/Sunil Dutt use to address his heroines "Jaane-Bahar, GuleyGulzaar" they all are used by those freaks.

Srk did Darr, Girls named Kiran were started getting those kind of calls... It was a character of that movie.

Eve teasers n Molesters don't need any Item Song or Bollywood excuse to perform their act, they will keep doing it coz of their weakness.

When did i say that Sheila, Chameli etc started it? 😕 😆 I never said 70s 80s bollywood was dhoodh se dhula:) I was just giving some recent examples and thats why these recent item songs were mentioned and yes i do think that its an unhealthy trend with the major actresses getting associated with it...

Feel free to disagree with my opinion but don't just make a wrong assumption abt what i said:)

There ...u have answered it Radheji...the vamps showed it...in the older movies there was a clear demarcation between the good and the bad...The heros were supposed to be good...the villains and the vamps were supposed to be bad...and in the end morality used to win...

People wanted to be like the Heroes because they were the good guys...

Now that demarcation has been lost...with actresses doing wnat vamps or item girls used to do...with Shahrukh doing what the villains were supposed to do i Darr , bazigar and anjaam...but atleast these movies showed him being punished for what he did...The movies affect a lot of people...they have a lot of power and so they have to be responsible in what they are feeding the young minds...These item song, vulgar lyrics and vulgar scenes may not be responsible for the rapes or assaults but they certainely add fuel to the fire...Every girl who has grown up in India...knows how the eve teasers abuse these songs...

You are not the 1st one to use these item songs names, they are used everywhere, so i pick up those names, although TM hasn't taken these names, but these current item songs are most talked about in this kind of discussion.

Yes, i am disagreeing but not making assumption for you, these 3-4 item songs are in every moral teaching discussions, so picked up from your post. It is in general me saying 2 all those, not just you.
