Gang-rape victim's death: I'm sorry that I'm a man, says SRK

"I am so sorry that I am a part of this society and culture", and "I am so sorry that I am a man", Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khansaid Saturday following the death of a 23-year-old trainee physiotherapist who was brutally gang-raped and tortured in the national capital.

"We couldn't save you but what a big voice you have, you brave little girl. That voice is telling us that rape is not an aberration, not a mistake," Shah Rukh tweeted.

"Rape embodies sexuality as our culture and society has defined it. I am so sorry that I am a part of this society and culture," he tweeted.

"I am so sorry that I am a man. I promise I will fight with your voice. I will respect women so that I gain my daughter's respect," added the 47-year-old, father to two children - son Aryan, 15, and daughterSuhana, 12.

The victim, who was gang-raped by six men in a moving bus Dec 16, was flown to Singapore for treatment Thursday and breathed her last early Saturday morning.

The heinous incident has triggered nationwide outrage with people taking to streets to demand death penalty for the criminals and bettersafety laws for women.

Shut up SRK. Just shut the eff up. I am SO tired of hearing our celebs saying things like "I promise" bla bla bla bla bla...what happened was so bad bla bla bla bla... You know for once, quit acting like our loser politicians and actually DO SOMETHING.

You want respect from Suhana? Other woman? Then DO something about this, don't just say a bunch of words to sound good...everyone knows you can talk about anything under the sun. You're a Delhiite, an Indian...who's led us all to believe that he cares very strongly for women. Well guess what, now would be a good time to show it.

But of course you won't. So, just shut up.

*edited due to certain reasons* first loser politicians and on top of that, our celebs who can do so much if they actually properly make use of their status and power but all that's done is "profound" type statements and words via twitter, facebook, interviews bla bla. MEHH!

Exactlyy! Our celebs can do so much for this case, for this issue, but all they do is make statements on twitter, facebook, give interviews. 🥱

It's very obvious why they won't. They need these politicians to save their butts when they're screwed. 🤢

Ya saw these tweets yesterday...I hope all the celebs who are tweeting and putting it out on FB...will do something and not just talk, talk and talk...
What I am afraid of is that this issue is going to fizzle out ...just like all the other cases...nothing ever happens after these cases...I hope this time its different...
I really do not have problem with the celebs speaking out on this ...they are also humans like us...and let us not assume that they are doing it just for publicity's sake...maybe some are...but maybe some are genuinely disturbed...but please for God's sake...tweets do not help...Go out and do something about it...meet some one...rally people...Celebs have a lot of power...which at this moment they should utilise for the right reason..

What these celebs can do when President, Pm, Congress leader sonia gandhi is assuring for strict laws, which will come when god knows???

I ashamed of myself for voting Congress during election, they have just sucked blood out of people in these years & now when whole nation is asking them 2 take strict steps, they r just giving statements "Karhe kanoon banayenge" ???

Celebs can only influence their fans, followers from not doing such cruel things... Just hoping the day when a gal in india will be safe.

My heart goes out to that girl and the family that had to endure such torture. I think everyone of us felt shaken up by this incident and all of us wish that something/anything at this point would change so we do not have to see an incident like this again. That being said.

Yes celebrities have a responsibility towards using their power to change the system, use their power to make the society a better safer place for all.

But all I want to say in support of SRK's tweet... he is an actor a lot of us grew up watching and I am not a huge fan of the man anymore but I have little cousins in their teenage years who follow him on twitter and facebook and read these tweets. My little boy cousin was the one who told me about this tweet and he felt strongly in support of SRK's tweet about giving women respect. Yes, SRK's tweet may not change the system/may not change the government/may not even change some of the filthy men in India but I know for a fact that my cousin will never ever do such a crime and no, its not because of SRK's tweet but that tweet did help. It did help push my cousin on the right path (that he already was on but it helped nonetheless). So before putting blame on these celebrities that all they do is talk and not actually do anything about these things... know that even talking helps with young children who idolize these film stars. Anything and everything helps.

Rape has always been a heinous crime and never a mistake. Rape was always an sexual attack not a way to display ones sexuality. I don't think in any culture or Society do they encourage rape. WTH is he talking about.

N if you are a role model to crores of ppl, DO SOMETHING and not just talk about it.
