I think the lawyer is for Padmini's divorce proceedings and also the transfer of property to his mother.

The letter was Radhaji's best wishes to RK when he first joined the film industry. At the 5 year party when Madhu confidently told RK to give the cake to Radhaji, she said to him: she was the reason for your success in the industry, watch it again that dialogue is important, and he didn't refuse to feed her the cake because he carrying the letter in his pocket believes her blessing to him all those years ago made a difference to him achieving success in his career, that's why when she told him again to seek blessings from his mother, he didn't hesitate but also sort it sincerely touching her foot and waiting for her to speak and hold his hair. So what was in the letter was revealed in that sequence and by what Madhu said and how RK was behaving in that scene.
