'Its 12' whispered the guard of the event.
'Guddu! Switch off the lights' a lady from the crowd whispered to which the girl in pink nightwear went and obeyed.
Then slowly from the only room from where the light is coming, two elderly couple came out who were woken by Jassi in behind saying that Guddu, their most pampered granddaughter in the house is not feeling well. Both are worried, though their faces can't be seen in the dark room.
'Surprise!!!' a group corassed with the sound of balloon bursting and the lights were switched on and they could see their big family standing in semi circle with happy faces excited to see their expression.
The couple with glitters on their head is delighted to see the decoration and everyone's presence. Grandma was attacked by few coming and hugging her tightly saying 'Happy Anniversary'. With the acknowledgement of 'Thank You', she kissed the forehead of everyone coming and wishing her. In the midst suddenly a voice called asking 'Where is Grand Pa?'
'Aa jayenge. Gaye honge laane' grandma said with a smile and others agreed by nodding 'Ya! Grandpa will never change'
It's hot in early morning also. No wonder people say Chennai is the hottest place in the country. Even though Navya is used to the heat as she studied her engineering in Delhi, but at least there the heat is only for few months and not throughout the year. The day when she got the job though campus in one of the renowned software company in the world, she happily accepted the offer as it's going to be a big start for her career. But later became a little sad when she came to know about the location as she didn't want to leave Delhi, as most of her friends are there and her home town, Amritsar is near. Currently she is at a distance of more than 2,264 km from her parents. Her mother is relaxed as she has her younger sister staying in Chennai where her only daughter can stay for initial few days before she could get a good PG.
'Are Navya! Finish you chapatti and then go' a lady with grey hair sitting at the other side of the dining table said to the girl wearing a maroon plain kurta with white pattiyala bottomed and white dupatta with her beautiful long silky hair left open, hurrying for her first day at her first job.
She is mother-in-law to her Masi who stays with her son and daughter in law in Nandy Palace Apartment in Perungudi.
'Nahi Dadi. I am getting late. Need to reach there at sharp 9:30 am' she replied washing her hands in basin next to the dining table.
'Manna is there na to drop you'. Manna is her son whose real name is Rajeev whom she loves to call by this name which he gets irritated in front of new people.
'Dadi. I will go on my own. Will catch an auto from the main road' Navya replied as she doesn't want to trouble Rajeev for going early to his office as his shift starts only at 11 a.m. He also works in a software company 10 kms away from her office.
'Nahi beta. It's your first day and the place is also unknown to you' to which Navya came near her and said 'Dadi! I am used to all these. Don't worry, I will manage. Just tell me how to go from here' and smiled and dadi explained the route after which she cupped her face and gave a kiss on her forehead and said 'Ok! All the best for your first day'
The society is very big with around 10 buildings with row houses on the other side. It has all the facilities like gymnasium, swimming pool, kids playing area, supermarket etc. The beautiful landscaping of the place makes it a pleasant place to stay for the residents. But as Navya stepped out of the gate and takes the road heading towards the main road, she is shocked to see the condition of it. She didn't know about it as she was half asleep when Rajeev crossed the road while picking her up from airport last night. The society looks like a kingdom in a rural area.
She is finding it difficult to walk on the road with dents with her black heels. Still she is walking fast with many times her feet getting twisted. She regrets for saying no to Dadi as she is scared that she will get late to office and kept looking at her wrist watch. But soon her attention went to someone who is coming behind her in equal pace. First she thought it must be any other person on the road as it's a free India, but when it followed her wherever she took the turn, she was little scared as it's a new place for her and she is always cautious when she stayed in Delhi. She didn't dare to see behind though she kept looking at the shadow. She walked faster ignoring her heels and finally succeeded in reaching the main road. She crossed the road breathing with relief of saying 'Thank God'
