What I absolutely like about this man is his honesty! No other actor would admit he's given flops! Or even if they do, they blame the system, lack of good offers & give all sorts of excuses to portray themselves as victims & put entire blame of flop on someone else. Some actors even claim film is not flop & it "recovered" money or was a hit in certain regional "pockets". Or they claim film was risky, art film or experiment which was ahead of its time or which went wrong! All so called Kings, Shehanshahs & Aces have done this!

Salman is the only one who calls a spade a spade! I appreciate how he didn't exaggerate the cult of AAA. I mean other actors make a big deal of their film being a success in home video circuit to excuse its poor box office reception (Salman's close contemporaries have done it).

I can tell you even the people who earlier didn't give a damn about Salman are nowadays finding him better due to his honest attitude. He's never claimed or promised anything he wouldn't deliver. He is what he is whereas others seem trying hard to build their stature as cultural ambassadors or messiahs of film industry. People find Salman a refreshing change this is why he works despite the content he dishes out in his films. (It's not just masala which works for him. It's something else which currently only he has & no one else does - 'realness')

I always hope he doesn't let success affect him much. I'd be disappointed to see him take the pretentious paths which others have taken!

Add - Even his court cases, he doesn't hide it unlike others. Many have slept around, abandoned illegitimate kids, had drugs, problems with own brother & father, beaten people at parties or stadiums, indulged in corrupt practices, gone to jail, had links with the underworld, beaten up their wives, attempted to murder their co-actors etc. but all of them tried to hide it & play gentlemen in front of the world. At least Salman's life is an open book! It doesn't make him innocent but it's better than hiding your crimes & playing nice guy or paying media to shut up over your crimes!

You know I was a fan of Salman...but somewhere later with whole Aish thing and then Court matters...broke my heart...

Even today...I may not a big fan of Salman...but yes I somewhere have a liking for him...I hate most of his recent flicks except Dabang and Wanted ...but still wish that he comes in a well made movie with a strong role...

Your post made me realize as to why I still like Salman ...Thanks ..

Honestly speaking I'd never cared about Salman or his films in past. I have enjoyed watching some of his films in 90s as a kid. But I'd watch him like any other actor. I still don't care much for his films. I do not excuse him for his failings in personal life. But of late, with others so much into managing their image, Salman's public persona comes across as a refreshing change.

I'm not his fan but I'd have to hand it to him for being totally free from pretense!

He has most SUPER HITS, BLOCKBUSTERS AND ALL TIME BLOCKBUSTERS in last 25 years

90% of films have opened to Very good/bumper to All time opener

He has 9 annual hits a record held by him which maybe not be broken for next 10 years.

Bacha kucha khud pad lo

Salman Khan - The Phenomenon Continues in 2012.

There are Class Film, there are Mass Film and there are Salman Film. Ask any Exhibitor or Distributor about Salman Khanand they will say these words unanimously. He is a phenomenon and this phenomenon creates mass hysteria at the box officewhenever his film releases. The man is synonymous to box office records from Maine Pyar Kiya and Hum Aapke Hain Kaun days. But had a dismal time in mid 2000s and many had written him off then.

With court cases and mediocre projects in mid 2000s his stock at the box office was in doldrums. In between he might have given mega Hits in Tere Naam, Mujhse Shaadi Karoge, Partner, No Entry but Flops were escalating higher with each year. Then happened Wanted in 2009 and rest is history. He who started the single screen craze which was near about shut down.

So, how is the year 2012 for him. In 2012 he has two releases. One is Ek Tha Tiger which broken each record at the box office except the lifetime record of 3 Idiots by a whisker. Another isDabangg 2 which is touted as a sure shot goldmine at the box office. He is having an amazing run from 2009 onwards. He has the highest grosser film in 2010 and 2011. And in all certainty 2012 is also going the same way. Salman Khan is sure shot to give Hattrick of Biggest grossers(Dabangg 2010, Bodyguard 2011, ETT/Dabangg 2 2012), which has never happened ever at the box office since pro Amitabh Bachchan stage.

Apart from this Salman has another two records in his kitty. First being, Maximum no. of highest grossing films since 1990s (Saajan 1991, Hum Aapke Hain Koun 1994, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai 1998, Hum Saath Saath Hain 1999, No Entry 2005, Dabangg 2010, Bodyguard 2011). Second being highest no. of All Time Blockbuster among his contemporaries.

If Dabangg 2 beats the box office collection of Rowdy Rathore, then he will have unique record of having two or more highest grossers in three years (1999 - Hum Saath Saath Hain, Biwi No.1, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam; 2011 - Bodyguard, Ready; 2012 - Ek Tha Tiger, Dabangg 2). So, except few mediocre time period in mid 2000s, he is just class apart and in his own lane.

What he has to do in 2013? Just keep going man, 'Make Hay while the Sun Shines'. He has two films in pipeline, one is Sohail Khan's next and other is Sajid Nadiawala's Kick. These film will see the light in 2013 is the other question. So, whether the 'Darling of Masses' can have another fruitful year in 2013 is to be seen. Till then wait for Dabangg 2 to release and see the phenomenon again.
