"Anandiii..." Shiv yelped out of his wits as he saw her almost being run over by a speeding car on the other side of the road. Running panting to her side, he clutched her by arm. "Anandi aap theek hain na", he wheezed in concern cuddling her closer. She nodded slightly as a heavy sigh escaped her lips. Fuming angrily at the reckless driver, Shiv ran behind the car as long as it vanished down the road. He couldn't beleive how can people be so inhuman. Disgusted, he shuddered in rage. "Jane deejiye Shiv, main theek hoon", she affirmed walking up to him and touching him on the shoulder. A wave of terror passed down his spine as he stared back at her in deep stillness. Swallowing a thick lump in his throat, he stared blankly at her jolted by the incident. A film of moisture enveloped his eyes realizing what could have happened. He could have lost her...forever! Taking a sudden step, he closed the distance between them and cuddled her into an embrace, surprising her by his gesture. Deepening silence fell over as she gently hugged him back, letting him squeeze his fears into the cuddle. She knew he was scared. A sweet pleasure dwelled upon her senses as she inhaled his scent, making her feel drowsy. She held him closer, letting the ages of separation dissolve into oneness. She leaned into him further and felt the warmth between them, felt his body, his arm tight around her waist. It felt so right being there, like that. Everything felt perfectly alright.
They stayed like that for a few passing seconds before she heard him swallow a sob that rose in his throat, making her slightly pull away. Still hugging him sideways, she did a gentle hand press on his heavily throbbing heart, and whispered, "Bas Shiv, Main theek hoon". He jerked a little as her words suddenly sank in. Startled, he coldly pulled back looking away in embarrassment. A crushing guilt gripped his heart as he realized what had he done.
"Anandi woh..woh main...main aapko embarrass nahin karna chahta tha...I am really sorry" fumbling he treaded back and walked up to the car. Seeing his sudden aloofness she closed her eyes in pain. He had taken it all wrong. Trying to compose herself, she wiped the warm tears that snuggled the corner of her eye and walked up to the car, seating herself beside him.
An uneasy silence took over the car as he lethargically drove up the lane heading towards home. She stared at his stressed face while he continued to look away. Sifting through his thoughts, he shuddered in discomfort realizing the awkwardness he had brought to her. The guilt of relenting made him feel sickly in the stomach. Anandi rocked as she saw him tap his feet in disdain. She knew by his silence that he was thinking about the moment they just shared and found that it affected her more than she thought. Striding her hand to the gear shift, she gently squeezed his hand and smiled at him with a pleasing affirmation. "Main aapse jhooth nahin bol sakta Anandi, main nahin hans paunga" he mumbled swallowing a lump in his throat.
Nodding understandingly she looked away and kept staring out of the window as dense clouds came to hover the afternoon sky. She gasped feeling the pain he had been giving himself without any fault of his.
She kept on staring out as all the moments spent with him played in front of her eyes. The promises they made on the day of their wedding, the conversation they shared on their first night , the wows of being together forever. She gulped on her own juices as the sweeter than heaven moments stirred her insides. It was strange that though in real he made all those promises on the day of the wedding, but had been fulfilling them almost since he came to her life. Even before that, in her dreams. A sudden realization dawned upon as Anandi poignantly flashed back and forth in the virtual snap book of the recent past. His reflective appearance beside her in every crest and trough amazed her in ways more than one. As she gradually sifted her own thoughts, everything began to fall in place. Suddenly everything felt sorted. The clouds of confusion seemed to clear as she let out a slow breath. Suddenly there was no fear...no resistance. No bracket of the past. As if the storms had been tamed and it was time to embrace the galore of the shores. It felt as if all her unanswered questions had been suddenly answered in the form of the man that sat just next to her. She was certainly ready...ready for everything and anything that came along his companionship. Ready to move on and give their relationship a new dimension.
Finally returning back to him after a few minutes, she looked up to him and said, "Pls do minute gadi rokenge"
"Gadi? Par kyun Anandi?"
"Rokiye to sahi"
"Par ekdum se??...kya hua...kuch reh gaya kya?"
"Shiv aap kitna bolte hain...maine kaha na kuch nahin hua bas aap do minute gadi rokiye"
Surprised by her sudden request, he decelerated the car and parked it on roadside. Surprised, he still looked up to her in confusion. Wheezing, she closed her eyes and let out a sigh. Trying to ignore how hard her heart was beating, she slowly opened her eyes and before she could think about it, or analyze, or consider what she was doing, she slowly turned up to him, leaned over and cuddled his lips with a tender peck. His heart missed a few beats at the suddenness of the gesture. Startled, he felt himself gradually drowning into the ecstasy of the moment. For just an instant, he kissed her back, as though it was the most natural response he could come up with. But then he pulled away and looked at her. Tears had welled up in her beautiful eyes. Cupping her face, he wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes and whispered softly, "Main aap pe dabav nahin dalna chahta Anandi" . Punctuating his words with a silent pause, he traced his fingers down her cheek and resting them under her chin, he gasped. "Anandi...are you sure?"
Smiling delicately at her husband's tear-jerking innocence, she nestled closer to him and pinched his cute nose. "Collector sahab, agar sure na hoti...to kabhi pehal na karti". A beatific blush stained his cheeks as his beautiful wife almost slipped the floor beneath his feet. She never failed to enthrall him with her charms. As a peaceful silence descended upon them, she leaned over and kissed him again, this time being less shy. And this time he too kissed her back, moving his hand from under her chin to her hair, and then back down her back. And then, they were kissing like drowning people breathe - as if suddenly they had discovered a moment in time, they wished to last for an eternity.
Lightening cut the sky outside. December rain sheeted itself against the windows of the car, drowning out all other sounds. As they slowed down for just a breath, to a kiss that was sweeter and more lingering, she softly whispered to him, "Shiv, ye humari shaadi ke baad ki pehli barsaat hai'main isse mehsoos karna chahti hoon" Smiling sweetly to her, he nodded and stepped out of the car. Opening her side of her door, he offered her his hand and walked her out in the rain - their first rain...first in many ways. Stepping fully into the rain she looked above and opened her arms, letting the rain drench her withins. The moment seemed, to liberate her from all the self-imposed cuffs she had been ungenerously strangling upon herself. All the pain, confusion and fears seemed to melt as she embraced herself with her own arms, letting all the pain of the past squeeze into it.
As her sudden sobs filled the otherwise tranquil air, Shiv who till now had just been spellboundedly staring at his beautiful wife, moved closer to her and hugged her tightly. And this time she held onto him, with all the might she had in her arms. She held him closer and wept until her eyes had no more tears. Caressing her hair continuously, he wrapped his arms around her and whispered, "I am sorry Anandi...I am sorry ki maine aane mein itni der kardi.I am sorry ki main aapke saath nahin tha...tab jab aap bilkul akeli thi. Tab jab zindagi ka har imtihann aap akele de rahi thi. Bahut taqleef hoti hai yeh sochkar bhi ki main zinda tha aur phir bhi na jane kitni raatein apne rote hue bitayi. Kash hum pehle mile hote...kash main un sari taqleefon ko aapki zindagi mein aaane se rok pata. Kash main unn sare dukhon ko aapka bachpan...apke sapne cheen ne se rok pata. Kash..." he choked on his own words as she continued to sob under her breathe still enwrapped in his muscular arms. A few seconds passed with the two of them still cuddled up to each other like this.
Finally, pulling back a bit, he kept a hand under her chin and made her look at him. "Par ab aur nahin Anandi...ab main hoon aur ab main aapki aankhon mein ek bhi aur ansun nahin aane dunga. Ab sirf khushiyan hongi aur ek dusre ka saath hoga...tab tak jab tak saansein saath na chod dein" Looking deep into his eyes, she stifled another bout of tears and nodded faintly to him. This time taking the initiative, he strode closer to her and planted his moist lips on her tender ones. Even through the rain she could hear him breathing hard, arousing her in ways she had never felt before. Kissing back passionately, she ran her fingers through his wet hair as the two of them lost themselves into another pious liplock.☺️
