HAPPENINGS: 10 Disasters of 2012
2012 was a mixbag. We didn't get the likes of Roag and Maaye Ni, but we had some big hits in Thakan, Meri Laadli and Shehr-e-Zaat. However, at the same time there were various not-so-happening events too. The cable blockage is still fresh in memory (the industry had to face a loss of a few millions). Moreover, there were other disasters too.
10 worst happenings of the year are highlighed below!
The Foreign Invasion
Earlier it was Indian content giving tough competition to our channels/industry, and now there is an apoclypse with Turksih and Spanish shows finding their roots in the country. From one perspective, it is good as more people seem to be tuning in now. However, in the long-run, it will prove to be disastrous as foreign content would eat into local producer's share. DISASTER!
Oh the Marriages
Shaista Wahidi went through it this year, and so did Azfar, who divorced his wife of many years ot marry the much younger Naveen Waqar. The move won them hate from everyone, and the two are said to still be in hiding. Additionally, Atiqa Odho also tied knot to long-time love interest, surprising everyone.

Oh My Taxes!
As per the Daily Dawn, "Among the prominent media personalities who did not file tax returns in 2010 and 2011 are: Faisal Qureshi, Humayun Saeed, Nauman Ejaz, Savera Nadeem, singer Hadiqa Mehmood Kiyani and writer Umera Ahmed.
Atiqa Odho promised to sue the paper for publishing the news; however, the matter died!!
Stupid Rumors and Fights
Mahira Khan is divorcing her hubby! Shaista Wahidi is marrying GEO's owner! Aminah Sheikh is pregnant! And what not? Some websites, people and papers spread all kind of rumors to attain eyeballs. We did not publish any of these stupid articles, and are proud of it.
Some rumors are even said to have caused a stirr – Ayesha Khan and Humayun Saeed's – between friends. Alas!
Umera Ahmed vs Sarmad Khoosat , Umera Ahmed vs Babar Javed, Umera Ahmed vs AB Productions. Hatred took a new turn as the epitome of perfectness (as her fans put it) locked horns with a few bigwigs. And others were not too far behind either, ARY with GEO tried its best to sabotage Urdu1, Ayesha Khan was again in news for her alleged fights.
The Youtube Controversy
It happened and then YouTube died… Why is it here? Because with it thousands of people stopped following Pakistani dramas!

Poor Comebacks
Nadia Jamil's much talked about comeback in Durr e Shahwar was worse than (put your least favorite performance here). She failed in a role that was merely an extended cameo. Sania Saeed, too, failed to leave a mark with Zard Mausam, as Aiza Khan walked away with all the praise. A certain someone is trying to make a comeback with Coke Studio, but something has yet to happen. Zainab Qayyum also failed thanks to the horrible drama called Masiha.
Careers Dying
Ayesha Khan's career is no on the verge of dying! Six Sigma is slowly fading out! No one has work for Sania Saeed! Sanam Baloch is struggling to find good roles! It has been a sad year with so many good things (Yes, this is the sad part) coming to an end, so soon.
Additionally, many celebrities tried other career paths, and most of them failed to receive any interest. Waqar Zaka couldn't get a proper acting role, Mathira's album was killed for being a rip-off, and who doesn't know about Ayesha Omar's failed musical career? Rumors are she is willing to revive it – God, spare us!
Failed Payments
A-Plus is known for this notorious act, and now add Express Entertainment that owes several producers millions of rupees. Don't be surprised if you keep seeing Indian content or repeats on this channel, because it cannot afford to pay, thanks to no advertisers. Sad, because the channel when started had so much potential.
Talent Export
Atif Aslam is seen more in India than in Pakistan now. Ali Zafar is planning to shift to India. Rahat is not singing our OSTs any more. Veena Malik is almost an Indian already. Mona Lizza is finding work abroad now. Aminah Sheikh is also trying her hands in West and India. With nothing exciting happening in our country, people are looking at the other side of the border. Again, a sad state!
However, there are a few (Mahnoor Baloch etc) we don't mind exporting for good, no?

Bad Work and Planning
There was some really bad work on TV. When the biggest hit of the year is a foreign channel and something like Meri Ladli, you know you need to check things. Dramas like Ashk, Mera Saaein 2, and Maseeha were among the worst serials EVER! Oh, and did we forget to mention how we continued to blatantly copy other's work? Ashk's OST was a direct rip-off!
Additionally, poor reality shows continued to pour in. Desi Kurriyan improved, but Nachley was a disaster that continued forever (went on a break in Ramadan). GEO too failed to plan properly and had to put Annie on hold during Ramadan, when it could've gone on air after Eid only. ARY too was busy changing time-slots all the time (how many times did we see Mera Yaqeen and Kala Jadoo change slots?).

Dec 07, 2012 @ 08:58:06 [Edit]Woah ! A list Containin all the ingredient which affected our drama industry.Well done ! The Foreign Invasion at the top is the best thing in this list.I've seen with my own eyes that people prefer Ishq-e-mamnu over a very good Pakistani drama.Well Ashk has to be everywhere when it comes to "bad" or "horrible".Though i'm really excited for our people to work in Hollywood,But i hate those who keep showing interest to work in Bollywood. The Imran Abbas incident should be in this list too !
