Hello to all my fellow Arjun fans.

First of all my apologies for taking so long to update, unfortunately I had an unexpected crisis occur at my house that has forced me to change my routine a bit and then it took a while to get used to the new routine, and lack of sleep was not helping the flow of creative juices. So please accept my apologies, I will try my best to keep the updates regular from now on.

I really wanted this update to be little longer, but there were so many other details to get out the way for now, but soon the revelations will start so hang in there for little longer please.

Part 6

Five years ago, Maharashtra Police Academy, Nashik

Sameer Rathore increased his pace as he glanced at his watch. He was supposed to be in the main office five minutes ago but his last training session had delayed him making him late for the meeting with the commissioner. He was so lost in his thoughts he didn't see that petite girl in pink salwaar hurrying from the opposite direction until he collided with her.

Sameer's quick reaction kept him and the girl from hitting the floor. He wrapped one arm around a slender waist and balanced himself by placing his hand on the wall nearest him. He looked down as he started to apologize and ask the girl if she was okay but the words froze in his throat when he looked into the most beautiful pair of brown eyes he has ever seen.

He blinked few times to be sure that he was not dreaming and when he saw felt the girl tried to move away from him he realized she must have had something but he missed everything because he was too enthralled by her eye. He stepped back and ran his eyes from her long, dark brown hair to her toes that were painted with the same shade of pink as her dress.

Sameer cleared his throat and stepped back so she wouldn't feel uncomfortable. "I am sorry I wasn't paying attention to where I was going and collided into you. Are you okay?"

Sameer felt his breath hitch when she smiled at him. "It's okay; I wasn't watching where I was going either so it wasn't completely your fault."

Sameer looked around then back at her. "Anyway, where were you going?" He forgot that he was heading to the main office to meet the commissioner.

"I am looking for the main office but I think I am lost." She said as she frowned while looking down the long hallway.

"If you want you can walk with me, I am also heading to the main office." Sameer said then realized he should at least introduce himself so that she would feel more comfortable. "By the way my name is Sameer Rathore; I am one of the trainees of this academy." He extended his hand and braced himself to feel the tingling sensation of her touch again. He was not disappointed and smiled with pleasure when he saw her gazing back at him with interest

She smiled and pumped his hand up and down slightly, "I am Swati Gupta," she said softly.

He released her hand with reluctance then extended his arm in the direction of the main office, "shall we?" He asked with a smile.

They started walking towards the main office together silently at first but Sameer wanted to know more about her so slowed his pace a bit. "So are you here to visit someone?" He asked the first question that popped into his mind, but then he wanted to bite his tongue for asking. What if she was here to meet some man?

"Yes actually I am here to meet Commissioner Sharma and someone else also." Her reply didn't make Sameer feel better and before he could ask her who the other person was they were standing outside the main office.

Sameer knocked on the door and waited for permission to enter before turning the doorknob to open the door. He stepped aside to let Swati precede him inside before going in and closing the door.

Commissioner Sharma looked up with a pleasant smile and stood up as soon as he saw Swati then walked around to the front of his desk. Sameer was amazed to see a smile light up the commissioner's otherwise serious face. He was also surprised to see the commissioner hug Swati.

"Swati beta, how are you? It is so good to see you. How is your mother?" Commissioner stepped away and waited for Swati's reply.

Sameer felt his heart give loud thump when he heard Swati laugh and shake her head before replying. "You still haven't changed a bit Sharma uncle." Then her smile dimmed slightly and Sameer was fascinated by the change in her. He was also curious when he saw a flash sadness mingled with pain in her eyes.

Swati quickly shook of the mood and smiled at the commissioner with affection. "I am fine Sharma uncle and mom is doing well also. How is your family uncle Sharma?"

Commissioner Sharma smiled in understanding and replied to her question, "They are all fine," he said then walked back around the desk to take his seat. "I see you have met Sameer already, good."

Swati pulled out a chair and sat down. "Yes I met him as I was looking for your office and it's thanks to him that I reached here in time otherwise I would have still been looking for your office."

Sameer stayed quiet through the exchange and waited to see why he was summoned to the commissioner's office.

"You haven't told me why you wanted to see me but I have already guessed the reason so I have asked Sameer to escort you." Sameer was even more intrigued now and waited for the commissioner's orders.

"Thank you so much Sharma uncle for granting me my request. I know it's against the rules but I am going to be busy with medical school for a while and won't get to see Priya for a long time so I wanted to meet her before I leave Mumbai." Sameer finally got to know the reason behind Swati's visit and was happy to hear that she was here to see Priya and not another male officer.

Commissioner Sharma nodded his head, "I am sure she will be glad to see you also. She is doing great, her father would be very proud of her." He added.

Commissioner turned to Sameer, "Sameer I want you take Swati to see Priya Banerjee, since you are familiar with her routine and would know where she would be at this particular time."

Sameer kept his pleasure at the thought of chance to spend more time with Swati from showing on his face as he nodded his head at commissioner's instructions and escorted Swati out the office.

Present time ETF office, next morning

Sameer swirled his chair around when he heard the thump of a coffee mug being placed on the conference room table. He looked up to see Priya standing next to his chair, with another coffee mug in her hand, watching him with curiosity. He looked away before she guessed the reason for his distraction.

Priya was not fooled by Sameer's closed expression and pulled out a chair to sit down. "Sameer, when are you going to realize that you and Swati are both miserable without each other?"

Sameer ignored her question but he couldn't deny that he wasn't miserable without Swati either. He knew that he was to blame for the misery but at the same time his fear prevented him from going to Swati to apologize for the pain he is causing her and to make up for breaking her heart.

Priya didn't allow herself to interfere in her friends' life but she also knew that losing Sameer then her mom has taken its toll on Swati and she wanted to see her friends happy so she decided to say what has been on her mind since the night before.

"Sameer life is too short and too unpredictable to waste on useless fears, please reconsider your decision. Swati needs you more than ever now and you both still love each other so much, don't let your fears get in the way of yours and Swati's happiness." Priya pleaded.

Sameer swirled his chair towards Priya then leaned forward to look at her intently. "Will you follow your own advice and give life another chance?"

Priya was taken back by Sameer's question; she hadn't expected him to turn the tables on her and didn't respond at first but decided to make a joke out of it. "Hum ek baar jite hain, ek baar marte hain, shaadi bhi ek baar hoti hai, aur pyar...ek hi baar hota hai." She smiled at him cheekly after reciting the dialogue hoping to divert his attention but it didn't work on him.

"Will you be serious Priya?" Sameer said with a stern expression.

Priya sighed when Sameer glared at her for quoting a movie dialogue as a response to his very serious question. "I realized that life is too short to be so serious all the time; do you remember Sameer how serious I was when we were at the Academy? This is not the response you are looking for but this is how I feel. This not only holds truth in my case but in yours and Swati's case also. Can you imagine yourself with anyone else but Swati?"

"No I can't but that still does not answer my question. What is stopping you from being with the one you love?" Sameer again turned the the conversation back to her.

"It is too late for me Sameer; he was never meant to be mine, his love and devotion will always be reserved for someone else." She shook her head when Sameer started to interupt her. "Besides who would want to be burdened with my issues, he deserves better than to be stuck with someone who is not whole anymore."

Sameer stood up abrutply and pushed his chair back angrily he then bent to glare at Priya. "Shut up Priya, don't ever blame yourself for what happened to you." He moved back just as abruptly then placed his hand on his hips in frustration. He was so angry, not at Priya, but at everything that shattered her world and herself confidence in herself as a woman.

Priya stood up to place her hand on Sameer's arm. "I am not blaming myself Sameer but the reality is I am not who I was and even if I was, it would not make any difference in my case. But you and Swati belong together and I just want you to thinks about what I said."

Priya didn't want to think about her flaws and issues so she ruthlessly pushed them to back of her mind and gave Sameer a bright smile. "Remember Sameer, "Hum ek baar jite hain, ek baar marte hain, shaadi bhi ek baar hoti hai, aur pyar...ek hi baar hota hai."

"If your Dear Abby session is finished can we do some work now?" Priya and Sameer turned when they heard the sarcastic question from behind them. Priya rolled her eyes inwardly when she saw Arjun in black shirt and blue denims with his arms crossed over his chest standing at the head of the conference table glaring at them angrily.

Chottu and Shree had just walked in when Arjun asked the question.

"Somone either woke up on the wrong side of the bed or he has just been appointed the new chief of ETF." Priya muttered under her breath loud enough for everyone to hear. It only earned her a scortching look but she just ignored it and walked around to take the seat that was fartherst from Arjun. She also made sure her back was turned towards him which made Arjun clench his teeth and eyes flare up with temper even more.

Sameer was too distracted to notice or comment on the silent war between Priya and Arjun but Chottu and Shree's eyes popped out at Priya's comment. They were sure Arjun was going to blow up but to their surprise, despite the visible anger on his face, Arjun did not blast Priay for her comment. They both exchanged a look and remained silent for the moment.

Chottu decided to lighten the atmosphere a bit, "Great coffee Priya," he said with a smile.

Priya turned to him and returened his smile. "I would love to take the credit but I didn't make the coffee Chottu, it was already made when I came into the office this morning."

Shree covered his chuckle when Chottu looked at Arjun then quickly put the mug of coffee down and muttered, "I think I will skip drinking coffee today."

Priya did not miss the scene or his words and looked at Arjun then back at Chottu and wondered why Chottu decided to reject the coffee after learning Arjun may have made the coffee. She decided to ask Shree about it later.

Arjun, meanwhile was seething in the inside but kept his cool, which was surprising in itself but ever since he overheard Sameer and Swati's conversation the night before his mind and heart had been at war trying to figure out what could have happened to Priya and why the thought of her being through something painful was causing so much turmoil in his heart.

He was also still preoccupied with what he over heard few minutes before he had walked into the room. Learning that Sameer and Swati had a relationship had been shocking enough but Sameer's sudden burst of anger had surprised Arjun. Realizing that the two people whom he had considered his closest friends had kept secrets from him had made him lash out as soon as he walked into the room.

Arjun once again shook off his thoughts and concentrated on the case. "Shree did you find out anything at the hospital yesterday?" He asked since they had decided to leave everything for the morning he had not asked Shree about his and Chottu's part of the investigation.

Shree tapped on few keys of his laptop to bring up the data then looked up at Arjun, "Sir on the surface it doesn't seem to be much but this might be the trigger that Priya mentioned. When we interviewed the people in the billing office we found out that both women had made a big fuss regarding their bills. They claimed that they had been charged for procedures that they never had."

"Were they both seeing the same doctor Shree?" Rathore asked, he also had decided to put his person problems aside and concentrate on the case for the moment.

Shree shook his head, "No sir, they had different doctors. Kanak was being treated for Migraine headaches and Mrs. Tiwari was going through some cancer screening tests to rule out cancer diagnosis."

"What other information did you get from the billing department? Were you able to talk to anyone in charge of the billing department?" Arjun asked.

"Head of the department was not available last night but we are going back today to see if he is available to tell us what happened with the complaints the two women made." Chottu informed Arjun.

Rathore leaned forward and addressed Shree and Chottu, "Okay then you two head over to the hospital to see if the head of the department is available and try to get as much information as you can regarding the two women's complaints."

Chottu and Shree immediately stood to follow their chief's instructions and left the conference room quickly. Their exit left an awkward silence among the three people in the room. The awkwardness left each with their own thoughts of where they were five years ago and where they stand in the present, so close yet not close at all.
