Borrowing these lines from a newspaper article which deem fit to describe the current quality of content on Indian TV.

"In an effort to appeal to the lowest common age denominator, Indian TV caters to imbeciles or adults with infantile intelligence."
Do you agree?

It's sad that the most preferred means of entertainment is so callous and provincial in content.

a)Debates or discussions or interviews call it by any name the flaws are there. The panelists may be big names but the way the program is anchored and structured leaves volumes to be desired. The questions are imperceptive, irritating and often baseless.

b)News reports shown are pathetic with the correspondents asking the most moronic of questions like the often abused 'how are you feeling?' to a person who has lost a near and dear one. From a place affected by rioting 'how's the envt there?' Cities affected by deluge with questions like 'what are the people doing?' 'how did you feel when crossing the 4 feet deep water?'

c)Documentaries? Well who watches Doordarshan?

d)Of course the quintessential K brand of fly dramas with their subservient plots and portrayals, which in no way have the veracity of actually happening. If the awful melodrama was not enough there is a new trend of multiple zoom-ins accompanied by sleazy light effects.

e)Comedy serials have not moved beyond the slapstick. Are we that poor when it comes to humor?

Well,no offense anybody, but every K soap caters to imbeciles....Ekta would never change, and why should we blame her when the majority of the audience love the crap dished out 🤢

Regarding debates, certain ones(Like The Big Fight) are good, but again not brilliant..There's always several lacunae....And as you said,None watch Doordarshan in today's age of Star Plus and Sony TV....and there's a serious dearth of good comedies... 👎🏼

Moreso,Good actors are being wasted in Ekta's soaps...None would choose creative satisfaction over money, and thus every new mainstream show is retrogressive!

It would be an exaggeration if one says that Indian TV per se caters to nincompoops,But a major part of what is shown is really regressive!

You know, the scribe was actually being euphemistic 😆 ...Instead of saying that Indians who watch the shows are imbeciles,she/he has played with words 😆 😉

i d rather watch BBC news; SKY news or CNN anyday vs. watching star news or ndtv--just my opinion for we live in a big world and students protesting for cell phone use at uni is in no way as impt as earthquakes in indonesia

c)Documentaries? Well who watches Doordarshan?national geographic; the discovery channel; animal planet; the history channel all exist for a reason😛

d)Of course the quintessential K brand of fly dramas with their subservient plots and portrayals, which in no way have the veracity of actually happening. If the awful melodrama was not enough there is a new trend of multiple zoom-ins accompanied by sleazy light effects. uuugghh i d rather watch the O.C.; desperate housewives; grey's anatomy; gilmore girls; seventh heaven; east enders; celebrity master chef; neighbours; home & away ANY day versus watching crap like KAA; or KYPH or KZK where the main protagonists pout; fight; get together; break up; fight; pout; get back together; and the cycle goes onnn with the lead actors being as wooden as furniture or having the usual 3 expressions; or wearing the saaame outfits; or not knowing how to dance; or being boisterous on reality shows!!BLAAAH😡

e)Comedy serials have not moved beyond the slapstick. Are we that poor when it comes to humor? maybe so dude; maybe so!!!😛

Very true, it happens so often that the guestspeaker/s has no profound knowledge or lacks experience abt the issue under contention and simply ramble their thoughts.😕 Most well known in this category is Mahesh Bhatt - bet you never miss him!🤢

Yeah thats right but then whatever prgs they show abt India is abt its poverty, ill health or poor infrastructure 😡 & they always show India in a poor light. 😭

HAHA,I know...😆

Whenever any foreign channel shows anything about India, the first thing they show is the slums😆,the villages, naked kids running around, the the buses(and mind you, those buses have stopped plying long ago..Those 1970's buses, then a crowded street in lucknow, varanasi and the Taj Mahal.....There's so much more to India than just the slums and the jam packed Varanasi😛

LOL,Mahesh Bhatt😆...he has an opinion about everything, even matters which dont concern him😕

and the best example that can be cited is that of the erstwhile Jassi,a ka Mona SIngh

She was called to a debate on NDTV India to debate on whether its impotant to look good(especially because this was the main premise of her serial)....Most of the time, she stood there with her perpetual grin..She hardly debated, and I wondered what she she was even doing there when she has zilch to contribute to the debate😕.... she was terrible,She mouthed certain lines like "More power to women,A ugly girl Jassi could slab her boss Armaan, and Armaan couldnt slap her back" 😕

Now what kind of statement was that😕..Mona perhaps has never worked in an office, and she doesnt have a clue as to how tyrannical boses can be🤢..Forget slapping,at certain offices, employees are given the pink slip even if the backchat their boses....

Basically this is how every debate is...Most of the panel members are ignoramuses when it comes to the topic that is being debated, who make certain ridiculously inept and laughable statements, and nicely put their foot in their mouth!🤢ATleast the least they can do is brush up the topic, and prepare for the debate, but some choose not even to do that😕

Same here, it angers me to no end 😡 . Why do they show this? India is exporting so many things be it medicines, textiles, food products, jewelry, toys and more.

And you are so right a running naked child is a must! I am not questioning intentions but I find it perplexing. It doesn't make any aesthetic sense too!😕

Wonder why these foreign channels are consigned to some retrograde era! 🤢

Mona Singh better research abt office culture. Slap the boss! is she forgetting there is security in most offices and Mostly there are men working. Worse is there are even incestuous bosses!

Giving her close competition is Rakhi Sawant 😡 All she did was clamoring repeatedly I am ready to apologise to public if I am commiting indecent exposure! She is asking the public?? She needs lessons in civic manners

Sometimes there is nothing to watch on TV with 500+ channels. There is a wide array of of learning channels from Home/Garden/cooking/life/golf etc and the only channel I end up leaving on for more then 5 mins is CNN. I guess TV like my Sunday newspaper, weighs and looks like a brick and all I read is the business section.
