Esha,I think,it is not the mentality of the village people only.

My mom,who is a widow, is not invited to the marriage of our close friends/relatives. She is only invited to the reception,not to the marriage ceremony itself and my extended family is very well educated. I think, it is the age old tradition which comes into play and the fear psychosis that something may go wrong if widows are invited. I do not like this ,but,you cannot force yourself in getting invited.
She feels really bad about it,but,it cannot be helped. For her ,even if I am invited,I do not attend.😛 the marriage.

It is sad but true.This prejudice against widows persist in the society.It is prevalent all over India.
Level of education exposure does make some difference but the mind set is very difficult to change.

That's why I was happy about A's decision to invite the widows for her mehndi ceremony.
